A few questions re: Turndown service

There are a few threads circulating regarding turn down service and I'd like to try to get some clarification:

We will be staying at AKL. Is turndown an option for any guests or CL only? Does it cost extra? Does mousekeeping do the cute things w/stuffed animals (ie: have them holding the remote etc) anyway or only w/turndown?

Thanks for your help! :wave2:

Is there such a thing as having too much information? It seems the more I read on these boards, the more questions I come up with:rolleyes: :)

Turndown service is provided on a request basis for those guests not staying concierge. There is no fee.

As to towel animals, there is absolutely no guarantee that a guest will receive them regardless of turn down service, concierge, or where they are staying. This is totally up to the maid you have servicing your room. You may get them and then you might not.

Personally, my opinion only, both are highly overated.

Sammie,
Thanks for your reply. Maybe it's something we'll try for one night and that would be sufficient!

This is the first time we'll be staying on site and that, in and of itself, might be treat enough!

When we were there in May we had turndown every day. I like the idea of having clean towels put in the room twice a day. If you shower later in the day they put clean towels in the room, so you will have fresh towels for the morning. They also empty the trash which is a nice plus when you have 5 people in a room. My 3 DSs always enjoyed coming back to the TV being on and the animals wathching it. They also loved having a piece of chocloate at their pillow every night. It was well worth it to me for the tip I left every day.

So it is provided without request for concierge at AKL?

We stayed BC CL and they asked if we would like it daily. I would just let them know when you check in

We stayed concierge and every evening when we were headed out to dinner (usually around 5pm) mousekeeping would show up to do turn down. It was pretty nice to come back to the room later to find the covers turned down, our robes laid out, the chocolates for the kids, the lights dimmed. The whole room was freshenend with clean garbage bins, fresh towels, etc. I thought it was very nice.....not used to that at home, ya know!! Its a very nice perk on vacation.

As per Sammie's reply, even if we're not CL we can request this. I have heard though that some people have had to ask for it each day while others just requested it upon check-in and gotten it daily.

What is the appropriate tip for this?

I'm not sure if you can do it directly at check in, or if you have to call housekeeping, but either way:

When you request it, just ask them that you would like turndown service nightly until your check out date.

They may, or may not follow through. It took a few tries to get a fridge from housekeeping at the Beach Club.

(Not being nit picky - just saying that even if you request it for your whole vacation, you may need to make an extra phone call....no biggie! :) )

Thanks for your email!
I certainly hope we don't have the same issues as you did with the fridge. Our dd is diabetic and we need the fridge to keep her insulin cold! And we don't arrive until after midnight so I truly hope it won't be a problem when we arrive. We already have it flagged in our ressie...maybe that'll do the trick! That of course, is more critical than the turndown service!

Thanks again for all the replies...

How addicting is this site? Or is it just me?:earseek:

Vasoccermom, it really wasn't a big deal to us.

In fact, by the time you get there, there may be fridges installed already. Housekeeping was genuinely surprised that we didn't have one.

If you do have to call housekeeping, just let them know you need it to refrigerate medical supplies, and I'm sure it'll be there before you blink! :)
