I have been a reading fool on this board and "think" that I have a handle on how things work. I realize that we want our home resort to be bcv. We stay there every year in early march with our family of 5. My question is that if we buy resale, is there a certain month that would be better for us? I think that It may be a booking month? I am not sure on that part. Also, can you buy bcv through Disney or is that just through a resale company( dh wanted me to ask...lol) thanks!

If your travel will be in March each year, a March Use Year would work well since a cancellation would still give you until the end of February the next year to use those points.

BCV is available thru Disney but you can certainly save some $$$$ thru resale. I'd advise looking at both options and considering which will work best for your family.

While you can buy BCV through Disney, you are going to pay between $30 to $40 per point more. I believe that BCV is still going for $115/pt from Disney when the resale market is running between $80 and $85 for that resort.

If you travel in March, then having a Feb or March UY would be ideal since you want to have a UY that starts just before your typical travel to allow for the most flexibility if you had to change or cancel a trip. By having a UY just prior to travel, if you did have to cancel or change (at least 31 days out), then you would have a lot of time to rebook the trip or bank your points.

Since you would be going resale, Dec UY would also work. Besides March, is there another time of year that you might travel? Sometimes, looking at that can also help you use a UY. No one UY will work for all travel times, but it can help if someone does have some typical travel patterns.

I teach so our times of travel are the summer right now. In addition to that, when I retire, we plan on traveling in the Fall and early winter so we went with a June UY because it worked for both.

Good luck!

You know that the BCV one bedroom only sleeps four, so you would need enough points to book a two bedroom villa, right?

Exactly. A family of five will only fit in a 1 bedroom at BLT or AKV. All other 1 BR only fit 4. Might want to reconsider your home resort.

Yes, I realize that we will have to have a two bedroom. While I love blt, dh love bcv and requests that we stay there every time. It was my understand ing tht you should buy into the place that you preferred to stay the most? Was I not correct in my understanding? Also, I thought that it was hard to get into bcv if you don't have that as your home resort.

The only other time that we would travel would be end of October and early April. Thank for your replies and insight. It helps a lot :).

End of October is Food & Wine Festival. If you want BCV during that time, you need to own there. Late March, early April would be Easter/Spring Break time and you would probably need to own at BCV to get it that time as well.

:) Just to add here--realize that your UY month has nothing to do with your booking. Just because you have a March UY does not mean it affects your booking. You just mentioned "a booking month".

We travel Oct-Dec usually and have a DEC UY which is horrible for us. But now we are starting to go in May which is a little safer to do with a Dec UY. I did not fully understand UY or I would have probably picked another.

UY only really matters if you sometimes cancel vacations.

When we bought, we typically traveled in the spring, so we chose a December UY. Now we love the F&W festival, so December would be the LAST UY we would choose if buying today. It only matters if you need to cancel/change a vacation, and that hasn't happened to us yet.

Thanks all! We are usually very def. In our vacation times as dh has to plan very far out for work. March and April are our preferred times so dec should work for us. Thank you so much for all of your input. :)
