A few questions about using taxis

I apologize if this has been covered, I honestly went back quite a way trying to find what I need :) .

My question is, when using taxis, what is the standard tip? I have never used one and would like to know the going rate. I read that most trips around the property will run about $10-15. So what would be a reasonable amount to tip?

Also, would it be worth it to take a taxi from Downtown Disney when it's late and AKL after a late dinner at Boma, or is it not too painless to take the bus back to ASMU? There are just us two adults this time around.

Thanks so much for any insight!:flower3:

I haven't been to downtown disney since PI shut down, but if it's super late, sometimes the bus can take awhile.

I actually had a bus driver take me, my mom and sister directly to Pop from AKL after eating at Boma one night - it just depends on the driver.
Since AK usually closes early, I would get on an Epcot or MGM bus and if it's empty, ask nicely and smile lots. :) :flower3:

I personally love taking cabs, if you have a bit of extra money. It makes a nice dinner at one of the deluxe hotels so much nicer.

As far as tipping, I try to do 20%, but I'm not sure if that's standard.

I don't tip 20% on short haul trips around WDW. I add a $1 or $2 to the fare, but also realize that my party is 2 adults with no stowed items in the trunk. If the driver needs to get out and retrieve packages/strollers/wheelchairs from the trunk then you should tip more, but if I just hop in the back and he just drives from point A to point B without ever leaving the driver's seat then just a flat $1 or $2 for a local trip.

Thanks for your replies :) . Another question-Do you have to have cash or do they take credit cards also? We usually drive to the world so I have never had to even worry about transportation :drive:, so this is all new to me!

Thanks again, everyone!

Taxi drivers don't like to take credit cards for short haul fares since they pay the service fees. I would plan on having plenty of small bills ($1, $5, $10) so you can easily just pay the fare without waiting for change.

Wouldn't taxi drivers prefer cash for short haul fares? Unless you just have a typo and meant that drivers don't like credit cards for short haul fares.

OP...hope you don't think that i am hijacking your thread but i have another question for our taxi experts. How do you get one? Do you just go up to the bell captain? We will probably take one on our evening to cirque at DTD...should we order one ahead or do they come rather quickly?

I have never stayed at anything but deluxe, but at a Deluxe there are valet attendants and doormen outside the hotel. You don't need to call in advance during normal hours. Taxis are lined up outside and they will signal one over for you. If you were to need a taxi at say 4 in the morning for a 6am flight you may want to call down since finding one at that hour may be a bit more challenging, but around dinner time there should be plenty at the hotel.
