A few questions about my mom

I have a few questions, and have reviewed the past few days of posts as well as the FAQ but can't specifically find the answers so I thought I'd ask here....

My mom had a broken ankle heal incorrectly in the late 80s. It acquired severe arthritis and some days she can barely limp around the house. Furthermore, she has chronic back problems and heart problems as well (palpatations.)

She does have a handicap sticker for her car, but my question is, what exactly does she need to "prove" this to Disney as we are requesting first floor at their resort?

Are there different levels of disability vs. handicap? Would she be elligible for the handicap riders line or should she wait in the regular line? If she was in a handicap line, would her family have to wait in the regular line? My little brother is 10, so she at least needs to have him and her husband with her.

I'm sorry if my wording is at all offensive or rude... no intention of being so.

Thanks in advance! :)

There is no handicap riders line. If she is using an ecv, she will usually just go in the mainstream line. If she has other problems, go to guest services and let them know what her issues are--they should be able to take care of it for her.

As far as her room request, she should just say that she needs a ground floor room for medical reasons. Be sure to let them know when you reserve--don't wait until you get there to ask for one.

Normally if a person has a mobility or stamina problem the general Guest Services recommendation is to rent a wheelchair or ECV. If she is in a wc or ECV almost all the lines at WDW, for both shows and rides, are "mainstreamed" and she would remain in the wc or ECV until the seats or boarding area. If the line is not mainstreamed (and this would be only a few attractions, primarily at MK and to an extent Epcot) there would be signs to the alternate entrance.

If directed to an alternate entrance usually it is the disabled person and not more than five other people in the party. Often if there is an alternate entrance is may even take longer to board than the regular entrance.

I think all of the resorts except CBR and OKW have elevators in all buildings, so unless at one of those is the first floor really critical?

::yes::
I agree it's probably not critical except in those 2 resorts.

CBR was built before the ADA and I believe all the buildings are 2 floors, which exepts it from having to have elevators.
OKW has elevators only in the last 3 buildings that were built (numbers in the 60s).
normally, if you request first floor or near elevator for "Medical reasons" you will get it. Make it your first request and make sure it is listed on your confirmation as "medical" or something similar.

And, as the others said, there are no handicapped lines - a few attractions have handicapped access because the regular entrance is not accessible, but most have been switched to Mainstream lines.
