A few Q's for first timers!

We'll be visiting Universal Studios for one day on Saturday January 13th. I visited once with my family in 2003 during spring break but wasnt able to get on many rides/ attractions (and to tell you the truth I don't remember all of it!)
Now I'm going with my bf and his parents and I have a few questions for you all

1.)What can we expect crowds to be like that weekend? (10th-13th)? With WDW having it's anual marathon we're trying to get away from their crowds and try something new.

2.) What rides/attractions can be skipped?

3.) Which rides and attractions would you consider not to be missed?

4.) What is the Mummy ride like? BF and I are in our twenties but would you reccomed it for his father (in his early 60's who gets motion sickness)? Which ride does it closely resemble at disney? (I like to know what to expect!)

and finally..

5.) Is one day enough time to do everything? I guess that goes along with what the crowds are known to be like this time of year.

Are you just going to universal studios itself or islands of adventure as well? Also, are you planning on purchasing the Express Pass? these 2 things will determine how much time you will need.

* Revenge of the Mummy- majority of the ride takes place in the dark; there is a portion where you go backwards but only briefly. you also accelerate up a hill and go through twists and turns. there is a short moment of flashing colored lights and i believe a few strobe lights. i guess it most reminds me of the Dinosaur ride at AK

* ET- sort of like the Peter Pan ride at MK, but with the ET theming and storyline

* Men in Black- this has the same idea as the buzzlightyear ride at MK, instead you aim and shoot at aliens

* The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman- very fun and thrilling 3D ride

* Ripsaw Falls- great water ride with a fun, but steep drop

Thank you for the response! We plan on doing one day just at Universal Studios, we're not big coaster people so we decided to skip IOA.

The mummy sounds fun! and yet scary

Is there enough to see at Universal? Or as adults will we be bored?

it would be very easy to spend only one day at only universal studios. here are some other rides that you could go on (not amazing atttactions, but still fun)

* Twister

* Jaws

* Terminator 3D Show

* Horror Makeup Show- really funny and entertaining

* Disaster

* Shrek 4D Show- really cute, espeically if you liked the movies

You will definately get through it all, maybe even with time to spare. if you do have a little extra time, i suggest going to a late dinner at citywalk

* Margaritaville- amazing food and really great atmosphere

* Hard Rock Cafe- love the theming, but the music inside is very loud. the food is average

According to the website, the park closes at 7pm that weekend and the Express Passes are only $25.99 so I would say the crowds should be fairly light.

I agree with your description, but do you really think it is most like Dinosaur?? Dinosaur is pretty tame & not a rollercoaster ride? I went on Mummy about 2 weeks ago & I would tend to describe it as "Rock & Roller coaster on speed" !!! I'm not sure that I would recommend it to a 60 year old with motion sickness !!

1. Crowds shouldn't be that bad in that time of year. Everyone's back in school/work. It's an "off-peak" season.

4. Mummy, as mentioned above, is a high-speed, high-tech roller coaster in the dark. With the strobe lights and darkness, think of it as Space Mountain on steroids (SERIOUS steroids!)
As for your father...he might want to be the official "bag holder" Or maybe, take some motion sickness medicine (worked for my 42 year old mother and my best friend, 14)

5. 1 day is enough with express passes, and for one park, for sure. But I might take 2 days, just in case. You can also use day 2 for repeats/what you missed. We were able to do the must-see, best, favorite attractions at both parks in one day, but we had FOTL access (stayed onsite)

We'll be doing Down Town Disney that night and Seaworld the next day. We are actually staying on Disney Property (at the Grand Floridian).

Thankss again for all your help, especially with what crowds to expect that day and the mummy ride.It sounds intense, bf and I might go on, we'll see though, I don't want to get sick! haha.

RnR has inversions, ROTM doesn't
I also believe that RnR is faster and has higher drops.
I would however say that RnR is a little bit smoother.

As for motion sickness, my coastre hating DH and DM ride ROTM wiht no problems. Infact DH loves ROTM.

Hey, try to spend at LEAST one hour at IoA!! Even if you don't go on anything, drink in the atmosphere. Go eat at Mythos. There are only 2 big coasters, and then the kiddie coaster. Go, you won't regret it!!

ITA....somehow IOA having 2 top notch coasters equals IOA having nothing but coasters. I just don't get it.

Does anyone know how big the drops are on Revenge of the Mummy ride? I watched the youtube video, it looks fun but most of its dark.

according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenge_of_the_Mummy_(Florida)
the highest is 26 ft, I'm thinking it is a couple of ft higher, just missing 30ft

top speed 45 mph

Actually you are right, RnR is much faster BUT smoother than Mummy.

With the Mummy I felt like I was being jolted & thrown around the whole ride, as it kind of stops & starts all the time. Having a re-think, that was my whole 'issue' with the ride (rather than the speed). Should have called it RnR after too much caffeine (jolty).

P.S. Still would not recommend it to people with motion sickness
