A few more rental questions please

So we have a contact that just went to the title company for closing. There are 44 points that will expire on January 31, 2024. We are hoping to get a long weekend with these when we close but due to existing travel plans we may not be able to squeeze it in. So I have heard about renting out our points. So many questions.
1. If we get our points let’s say in the next 2 weeks what is the likelihood of being able to rent points that expire in January 31, 2024
2. Do we need to make a reservation with these points to rent them out or do we just give the “points” to the rental company (don’t want to do on our own)
3. Can the points be moved into that exchange program? And would 44 points be worth anything in that exchange program and do they expire there?

The ability to rent is solely based on finding rooms available.

Many of the rental companies seem to suggest booking something and then offering as a confirmed reservation vs just the points. But that is a question for them if you decide to go with one

I believe that you can indeed transfer them to II but not sure if 44 points would be enough for any trip.

To be clear, you cannot just give the points to a rental company. Owners get one transfer in or out a year, so the business model is all about making reservations.

You can make a reservation and ask the rental company to sell it or you can tell the company you have points you want to rent out and then let them match you up. You’ll still need to make the relevant reservation in the end. But both are options. I think DVC Rental store prefers the former and David’s prefers the latter.

You’re realistically looking more like a month until you get points, but I’d say your odds of finding a renter are fairly good. Not a certainty, but fairly good. The toughest thing you’ll face is that the room discounts are so steep this fall, rental rates are often not much cheaper!

Some title companies seem to be much faster than others these days. You can look at the Closing Time thread on the Purchasing DVC forum to get an idea of how your title company has been doing.

I would just bank the points and use them next year.

I think your biggest challenge will be finding a fourth quarter studio (because its only 44 points) that is available. There won't be a lot of studio availability to make a reservation to rent out. I would work under the assumption that 44 points are just going to be lost - but if you can find something, book it and try and rent out the confirmed reservation through a broker so you get something.
