Okay I have to hijack your boards again for a few more questions if you guys don't mind :) We are headed for our big UK trip in a little over a month

So how exactly does tipping work for restaurants? I have googled it and it seems that usually the tip is automatically added to the bill and we should look for it on the receipt and if we don't see it then add a 12-15% tip. Does this sound right?

What about at B&B's? The breakfast is included in what we have already paid, do people leave a tip after they eat?

Thanks!

Unless I am eating somewhere that is particularly posh or have had absolutely exceptional service, I normally only leave 10% service in the UK (maximum!) There aren't many places, in my opinion, that will add the tip automatically unless you are a large party.

In B&Bs, I would not leave a tip since, as you say, the breakfast and service is included in what you pay for the room. If staying in a hotel (or somewhere that is not family run), I would leave a tip for the maid/housekeeper though as my Mum used to be a chambermaid and I know how hard they work and how badly paid they are.

Thank you! I am glad I asked- I didn't want to waste money- but I didn't want to look like the rude American either :)
