Wow, did we have an amazing time! Trip report to come, just want to make some interesting comments from a WDW vets first trip to DLR.

First one of our trip highlights... we were picked to be magic family and open the park.... 2x!!!!! We declined the second time so another family could do it. but it was fun. We've been picked now 2x at both DLR and WDW!

I would say it was because we wore matcing tshirts. first was a tie dye, and the second day we were in red. VERY few groups were wearing matching tshirts, so I think that helped.

1. Crowds: knew they would be bigger at night by what we researched, but it still wasn't horrible. the crowds really didn't affect our touring too much. except that one night when we were leaving the just before fireworks, they let us out behind the scenes (behind main st) very cool!

Also, we noticed that very few groups were dressed up at DLR compared to WDW. fewer kids wearing costumes, fewer groups in matching tshirts, fewer hats/ears being worn. I guess it makes sense since most of DLR guests are day visitors, but it seemed less "festive". can't quite put my finger on it, hard to explain. But on the upside since we were dressed up almost every day, we got quite a few compliments!!!

2. DLH was awesome! So glad we paid the extra money for it. It made the trip very magical to be immersed in the magic all day long. and thanks for the tip to ask for the dreams tower. at first they said only if we paid for an upgrade, but I knew from this forum that the lower rooms are considered standard view, so they were able to get us into the dreams tower!

3. the grand californian entrance was great. Love how they take you to TSMM first. the only thing I want to add is that once you enter that way, you will notice a rope drop, make sure you line up in the line on the left. because that is the line they take to TSMM, if you aren't lined up there, apparently they won't take you.

4. crowds at night for fantasmic and fireworks were out of this world. I know you guys like fantasmic how it is, but the seating nightmare is ridiculous. love the way they have it set up in DHS at WDW instead. I did like the pirate ship part though, that was very cool.

5. I fell in love with Screamin!!!! I will be incredibly sad not to experience that again. because unless I win a contest, this is probably the only time we would go to DLR. I LOVED IT!

6. Aladdin show was amazingly funny! I wonder how often they change the jokes?

7. I know I asked this question before we left, and now I have a definitive answer... there is an age limit at blue bayou for eating off the kids menu. If you want the item off the kids menu you can get it, but they will charge you the full adult price.

There is so much more I want to say, but will leave that to a trip report, and again, a big thanks to all of you for all of your helpful hints and tips! It made our vacation fantastic!

Wow! You're back already! The trip was so long in the making, and now it has flown by! I am so glad you had a great time!!! Didn't I tell you that staying immersed in the magic at one of the DLR hotels the whole time really enhances the experience? For me, it 100% enhances it. I don't want to ever have to look at traffic or the outside world when I am there, so onsite is the way to go if one can afford it!!:thumbsup2

I also totally agree about the GCH entry to DCA and getting to the TSMM line first! I have been trying to tell DIS-ers who are disbelievers that when you get in that line that you described, you get to the TSMM queue before the people who enter through the main gates, and sometimes even get on the ride before 10:00 a.m.! (Yes, there are occasionally times when the CM won't bring the people over early, but usually that is what happens with that line!). A lot of people think that you have to spend so much time waiting in line in the morning just to get to TSMM first, but our wait time was NOT long at all, and doing it that way was so much better than waiting in a 40 minute line later in the day, when it was hot! I am so glad someone else has had a good experience with that GCH entrance and line for TSMM too, so you can back me up in future debates!!:lmao:

I love the Aladdin show, and I think they update the jokes regularly! When we went last year, there were jokes about "Tom" on MySpace and the Congressional bailout. From what other DIS-ers report now, there is a joke about Christian Bale (in reference to his profane tirade in the news recently). I like that they keep it current. I love the Genie - he is so talented and quick with the lines!!

Can't wait for a TR with photos!!:cool1: I HOPE you are able to go back to DLR someday soon!

were you a family of 4
i saw a family one morning wearing tye dye opening the day
maybe it was you

You were so right about staying on site! That was fantastic, You bet I'll back you up on the TSMM ride info. We started walking toward it just before9:50, and I WISH I had my camera out because the wait time was listed at 0 minutes!:lmao: YOu never see that! I wish I would have gotten a pic of that. We were the 3rd family in line, (6 people ahead of us) and we were on the ride by 9:55 We did both, wait in line in the afternoon and do the GCH entrance, and we liked the GCH entrance way better!

YES! We were a family of 4! It would have been on Tuesday that we wore our tie dye shirts. Did you get a pic by chance? It was a lot of fun.

We were there the exact days you were, only we were at the GCH. Loved it!
I also completely agree with numbers 1, 4, 5 and 6 above. DH and I commented on all of those things while we were there.

FWIW, this week was especially bad for such crowds at F! and the new fireworks show as the AP holder blackout lifted on Aug 16. See "The Psychology of the DLR Annual Pass Holder" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2244322

I always tell WDW visitors to think of the Fantasmic seating at DL like one would a popular parade or fireworks show. There are sitting areas and standing areas, and it can get crowded.

I am one of those that prefers F! at DL over WDW despite the lack of stadium seating. It just feels more alive when it is right there on the Rivers of America plus the MT and SSC ships deliver a knockout ending. :)

Glad you enjoyed your trip! :goodvibes

Welcome Back! Glad you had a great time! Did you get to try the Monte Cristo? ;)
~Tinksdreamwishes!

Oh Yes! and I loved it! I was amazed at how good it was. And I DON'T even like swiss cheese! It was very good.

but then... I also tried the cheese Monte Cristo (the one without the meat and 3 cheeses instead)... in one word... YUCK! I LOVE cheeses and I thought I would like this even better, nope, the original meat one is awesome! We ate at the Blue Bayou and also Cafe Orleans because I had to try the Pomme Frittes... Oh my goodness.... those were YUMMY!!!!:goodvibes
