A few board observations...

How about thinking of it in a postive light? If you've read a thread about the same topic already, you know exactly how to answer the new post and you can show how smart you are now! :thumbsup2

It's kind of a relief to answer the same question more than once. And it's even better if you don't bother to open it, since that gives you more time to browse the topics you haven't read about yet. :)

For example:
Originator: My dog has arthritis, what do I do?
I had a shepherd that had arthritis, he was a great dog.
Shepherds are great but none will match my chocolate lab.
I saw some beautiful dogs at the dog show last weekend.
All full breed dogs are inbred and mistreated. I can't believe you people still buy pure bred dogs.
Yeah and thos pet stores mistreat all animals. I read once about a fish that died in the aquarium and no one even tried to save it!
Fish? I love fish! Grilled, fried, even sushi.
Ya know what goes great with sushi is wasabi.
I know a restaurant that makes cucumber wasabi dressing that is to die for, but the service is bad so I quit going.
You never get bad service in WDW. You should go.
Originator: What the heck does WDW have to do with my arthritic dog???

Note: I have no idea why I just typed all that. I am a deranged individual.:rolleyes1

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

New or not, you deserve a tag for that!

Just wanted to say that i'm glad the Dis is the way it is. I don't feel scared to post here. Some message boards if you post something that has already been said, posters jump down your throat and then moderators lock your thread. For example.. fatwallet.. I would never post there.

Just my opinion,

Steven

I agree 99.999999 per cent. My only suggestion for this board is to have the profanity filter **** the word "croc". That would make the daily threads about ****s soooo much more interesting.

Sooo.....basically you're saying I should just shut up and go away then.

That's what's so "nice" about the DIS. If you disagree with something, you are just supposed to go away instead of offering an opinion.

This happens on every message board. I belong to a Harry Potter board, and every day someone shows up and starts a thread about something that everyone has discussed for two or three years. I don't know how the mods have the patience!

I think that boards like that, and this one, where the same sorts of questions get asked over and over, should have a specified period between registering and posting. As in - you can register, but you can't post for a week or something - to give you time to read the FAQ, read the forums, and see what the board is like before diving in. And probably they will find the answer to their question. And even better, a wait between being able to post, and being able to start a new thread.

My "peeve" threads are the ones that ask "will my (toddler, grampa, husband, Aunt Tillie) like (this ride, that hotel, this restaurant)?

How should we know? You're the one related to these people!

I can't imagine many people would stick around for too long if those were the rules around here. Kind, friendly, helpful people are part of the draw of the DIS.

:confused3 :confused3

What? How did you get that from the post you quoted? I so totally didn't get anything close to that.

The search function which used to be so good, just isn't anymore. Who cares if someone has already asked. You could be helpful and give great answer to a whole bunch of new people or you could skip it altogether and work on something new. There are so many boards and thread topics on the DIS, no one could read them all. And you don't have to answer everything you know the answer to. Plus, it gives new/different people a chance to answer.

Personally, I'm sick of the stroller questions on the family board, so I skip them. I also jump around on which boards I spend time on. If I get sick of the budget board, I ignore it for awhile and play on the community board. Then I'll get sick of this one and jump onto the restuarant boards for awhile. I *think* that was the point.

 I asked silly questions when I was first here planning my trip...about rides, fast passes, baby swap, strollers and I am really glad I received welcoming answers. Then I got to know some of those nice posters...found a flame suit and came down to the CB for some fun.

The search is annoying but you can manage this board by subscribing to threads and bringing up new posts.

I don't see this issue as a big deal for me personally but I do see this question a lot since joining the DIS. I don't let it bother me.

Personally what the OP is on about doesn't bother me.

How the heck did you get that from what Cleo said?

I didn't see that in her message to you. I think the suggestion was to turn it around to a more positive spin for you so you wouldn't be so irritated maybe, and enjoy more posts/threads.

Personally, I don't mind the repetitive posts, and appreciate the helpful people who reach out with answers and even more suggestions. I've learned so much since I joined the DIS. :goodvibes

How in the world do you get that from what she said?!:confused3

One of my pet peeves is someone new coming on a message board, reading for a while and then telling people who've been there for years how it should be run.

That, of course, is my opinion. It might not bother others.

Where in my post did I say that? I must have missed that part.

No, what I'm saying is, if there is a topic you don't want to read, don't read it. You don't have to go away. You don't even have to stop reading. You can even reply if you like.

It isn't about what I think you should do, it's about what YOU think you should do. If you don't want to read something....why would you read it? No one forces you to. It is your free will that allows you to make the choice. :thumbsup2

What's nice about the DIS is, you DO have the right to a) reply, b) read it and shake your head in disgust or in agreement or c) hit the Back Button.

You have not been asked to shut up and go away.

This happens all the time you just get used to it!

Why is it that someone who is very new to the boards feels that they should tell everyone how the boards should be run. I remember when I was a lurker, then a nervous poster. Most of the times DIS members make you feel welcome and not feel like a total jerk if you ask a questions that's been answered a million times. Usually its "new" to the person who asks it. Like other posters have said you don't have to open a thread if you don't like the title.

Yeah, stick around awhile - there are some way better things to get peeved about than people rehashing old subjects. :thumbsup2

If I am asking opinions about something and the question is not onthe first few pages, I feel free to ask again - and wouldn't apologize for it.

I mean, I want fresh opinions, and maybe from people who didn't join in the first time.

Here's my pet peeve - people who argue without reading the whole thread. I know they can get long, but you just look stupid if you chime complaining about something that has been clarified 10 times.

Like if someone who is talking about using a child's ticket for kid who is too old and then comes back to clarify on page 2 that they had never indended to use the ticket - that maybe they hadn't worded the OP well or something. When the people who come barrelling in on pages 3, 4, 5, 6 etc to say, "Well I didn't read the whole thread but I think it's wrong to cheat WDW and it teaches your kid a bad lesson and blah blah blah" - that's really annoying.

Do we all have cabin fever or what??????

c'mon spring!

I agree! That drives me bananas. If you're not going to bother to read the whole thread, then don't comment.

:confused3 Is it just me or does this seem to contradict itself??? :confused3

And I disagree....life is far to short to get your knickers-in-a-knot over different people posting the same opinion on pages 2, 28, 42 & 106 of a thread! Big deal!
