I had this buried in another post with not very many details so when someone asked for more details I thought that I would put all the details out here because I know that I looked for that like a hawk when we were planning our trip! Hopefully we can help someone else out as much as your input helped us out. We were visiting Monday, June 23rd on a non-EMH day.

I followed everyone's stories about visiting Anna and Elsa and we were 1st in line to visit them on our first day visiting. The treatment my kids got from the CMs escorting them to the Meet and Greet made that alone worth it! They were the 1st people through the castle. CMs talked to them non-stop. They made it seem like Olaf was talking only to them. Loved it!

My DH and I were travelling with our 4 kids (ages 1-8) and also 3 other adults - 2 of my brothers and my SIL. My two brothers were willing to run to get to a good spot in line. My DH was willing to stand and wait in line if necessary while we waited for our turn in the M&G (which I hoped wouldn't be necessary). We went on a Monday morning, no EMH hours.

My original plan was to arrive at security at 6:30 for 8am opening. However, the night before, my brothers informed me that they didn't think it was necessary to arrive until 7am. They were the runners so I had to somewhat oblige but I told them I thought we would be leaving too late. We arrived at the gates at 7:03 according to my brother. When he saw the number of people heading to the gates through Downtown Disney, he ran ahead. I had already told them to head to gate 13/14 since 14 is hiding behind the tree. The lines were already somewhat lengthy (we weren't going to be front of the line like I had wanted) but the 2 of them went right up in front of that tree at gate #14 though all the rest of the lines were much further back, they were probably the 2nd group in that line. The other 7 of us lined up further back because we wouldn't have really fit. Before they opened the gates at 7:45 though, they forced those 2 lines to merge into one line and my brothers lucked out and kept their close spot. If they wouldn't have been that close up because of going to that line, we wouldn't have made it in the front of the line.

I had also told them to be on the lookout for CM holding signs for the meet n greet. It turns out the signs are quite small (just small black Mickey shapes with a Frozen picture on them) but there are quite a few of them holding signs pointing the way.

Brother #1 got held up by an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair at the gate, and Brother #2 hustled up ahead going through the entryway on the left hand side. He sped walked and was almost instantly up front. 30 seconds later, Brother #1 sped up, got close enough to yell that brother #2 could slow down since he was way ahead of people. The rope was right around Walt, and escorts for AE MnG were probably 50 yards before that. You can probably get away with sprinting until right about the firehouse.

They immediately got to the front spot. They told the CM that they were holding a spot for us. I assumed that we would join them in the line at the meet and greet location but brother #1 came back and found us and told us we were first in line and we were able to go right to the front of the line before it ever headed into the park.

The Anna and Elsa line is waiting further ahead than regular rope drop. And the AE line is escorted in before rope drop occurs. Everyone has to get on the sidewalk and form a single file line. It appears that they are very careful to make sure that no one gets into or out of that line before they are supposed to.

On the day we were there, the A&E line was actually forming on the right side of Main Street. However, later in the week when we were there, it was on the left side. They escorted the A&E line in a few minutes before 8am. When we arrived at the location about 8am, the CMs were saying they weren't quite ready. Looking at the time stamps on my camera, we were taking pictures with Anna and Elsa at 8:08, were in there for a few minutes taking pics and talking with the kids. Then we were riding Dumbo by 8:16am! Then we did the Carousel and Mad Tea Party. It was great. Towards the end of that first hour, we made the mistake of getting in line at Storybook Canal. The line didn't look too long BUT they must have only been running 1 or 2 boats up until about the time we got on. Once we got in that line, it was HARD to try to get out of with a big group so we stuck it out.

I guess the things to know -
1. Go early. I still think arriving at 6:30 -6:45 would have been better if my brothers hadn't lucked out with the line.
2. Gates 14 and 19 are worth checking out (though our larger group with stroller and 4 kids would have been tight to get in, it worked with only 2 of them though)
3. Hurrying in and knowing what to look for with the Anna and Elsa line is very important. We saw another dad at the same spot in line as us and other people that were rather close, and they must not have entered and gone with a purpose! If they knew what to look for and to hurry, they would have avoided quite a bit of a wait.

Good luck!

Thanks much for this!! So helpful!!!

A bit confused, though. Where are the CMs holding the signs? On Main Street? Closer to the hub?

Looking back, maybe I understand better… Is the line to wait for the Anna & Elsa Meet & Greet close to Walt? With CMs holding signs before that? Where do you stop?

Sorry… Just having a little trouble picturing it…

Again, THANKS!!! I assumed we wouldn't get the see Anna & Elsa. Kiddo will be thrilled if we can. Don't mind waiting a fair while, just not hours and hours. :)

So can you run ahead to get in line? Like when they let us in I run along to get into line and wait for my wife and kids?

We will be going in Sept (14-18/19) and want to try and hit A&E early one morning.....

Or should I/We wake up early one morning to get a good spot? We are staying at DLH - Thanks for the help so far! I just want to have a gameplan for meeting those tricky frozen girls......my daughter is tooooo excited to not see them. I have no problem waiting if I have to as long as my daughter gets to meet them as a result.

Us too! Wondering if it will be a different ball game with 10am openings.

Good question....I have no idea because we have never been.....If one of the days I have to sit at the gate for an hour or more while they get ready I will do it! I just don't want her to miss out seeing them!

The CMs were holding the signs on Main Street. The line for A&E actually goes farther down Main Street than rope drop. But look for the CMs holding the signs because they will tell you where to go. On the 2 days that we did regular rope drop at DL (as opposed to a MM), the rope was at different places for regular rope drop and the line was on different sides of the road. That's why I think if you enter the gates, go through the tunnels and come out on the other side (as fast as you can) looking for the signs and then quickly go where they tell you, you will be best.

With Anna and Elsa it seems like it is acceptable and encouraged for one person to be the place holder in line. I had read people suggesting that the "runner" shouldn't have anything like a backpack etc to slow them down. However, when we were there, I don't think it was quite that much of a race, however, I wasn't the runner but my brothers had no problem but they were very close to the front of the line.

I think the best strategy is to go really early one morning and get a good spot in line. Then you can be in and out of Anna and Elsa without the long wake. You can also have one person be the runner to get the spot in line.

From what I have read, it does seem like a different situation with 10am opening. I have only been there once and we had 8am rope drop each day. The park seemed quite empty for quite some time. However, others have commented that 10am opening is busier much quicker.

Thank you for posting. We are utilizing this strategy on Monday, August 4. Planning on being at gate by 6:30 or 7. 15 year old son and hubby will go through the no bag check line and walk briskly or if allowed run to score an early place in line while the 6 year old dressed in her Anna dress and her cute little braids and I will go through bag check with everyones bags and catch up with the boys on the inside. Wish us luck!

yep. did this last wednesday july 16... my husband was first at the turnstiles, around 6:45 am... i arrived a bit later with dd4... he picked the turnstile far to the left.. a dad started running and got first... mu hisbamd arrived second at the same time as another daddy... we ended up being 3rd in line (which is better cause it gave my daughter time to warm up.... she is shy and did not know about the m&g, we didnt want to get her hopes up). plus we got in tje cottage while the other family was still there and got to see them a bit more!!!
anna is super bubbly and chatty.. elsa more serious.. it was wonderful!!!
BE FIRST AT THE TURNSTILES!!!!
the CMs will be holding the signs.. the line started around the statue of walt snd mickey.
the frozen line was the first to enter!!! so no one can cut in.

CM Steve did a great job handling the line :)

There is NO no-bag check line at Disneyland/DCA. Everyone has to go through the same bag check lines whether they have bags or not.

Just FYI, disneyland does not have a no bag line, so everyone will be going through the same line. At the time you are planning there should be minimal to no line at bag check though. If you wanted to be safe send one person to the gates at 630 (should have no problem being at the front of a turnstile at this time) and the rest of you will be fine joining at 715 or so, then have your runner enter first and make haste to the end of Main Street and find the A&E line, then you guys can join him again there.

How would this work for MM starting at 8am? Does the M&G still not start until regular park opening at 9 or does it also start at 8? Would you not even recommend trying to see them on a day with MM?

they opened the m&g at 8 am... we waited 7 minutes in line waiting for elsa to arrive which was fine!we were out the cottage at 8:15

th CM said they open at 7 am in MM days...

You don't necessarily have to run. I wrote something almost identical in strategy after our trip earlier this month (post link in siggy). I can't run because I have a healing broken ankle, and I wouldn't have run anyway, but I still got in line within the first five families. We were done seeing A&E by 8:20.

If anyone has photos of the signs they are holding, I'd love to see them!

I'd also love to hear reports of whether A/E are both there at rope drop most days. I know there have been reports of occasionally only seeing one or the other. I'm trying to get a feel for whether that's just sporadic and can't be predicted, or if it's more likely at certain times of day.

The military should hire all of you! I am so glad my dd had no clue who a and e were so I didn't have to go through all of this.

We will be there August 11-13 and the park is open 9am-11pm. What time would you recommend us getting there in order to be one of the first to see A&E? Thanks!!!

We saw them both but while in line before the M&G started the CMs there said that they didn't know who would be available, that it could be both or one or the other. We went in knowing we'd at least see one in order to not be disappointed.

Us too so I am also curious about timing when it's a later opening.
