A Dream of a Dream

Hey that's pretty cool, a concert movie! We just took our dad to dinner at Baton Rouge and watched Karate Kid. That's a really good movie

Sounds like you had a good day. We have been wanting to see Toy Story 3 but the weather has been too good to go sit in a theatre.

Well, it looks like we'll be getting some rain in the next week, so that'll be the perfect time to catch it!

out of all those pictures that cookie looked the best, never thought to put t hose toppings on while baking them.

We'll probably end up seeing it once we get back from BC next week. Dad isn't too excited over the prospect of seeing it.

 I have put the Reese's Pieces on cookies before but never an actual peanut butter cup.

We are taking a day off from hiking and just hanging out around the house so I'm taking the opportunity to post the Medieval Fair pictures I didn't get to before leaving on vacation.

The Fair was being held at Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg, Ontario which was just over an hours drive from our house. Mom and I arrived right around opening time and the place was already swamped with kids traveling with their schools. I would have preferred to go on a Saturday when the school groups wouldn't be there but they were calling for rain so we went with the Friday instead.

When we arrived we had no clue where the Fair was. Luckily we saw the King and Queen walking through the village so we decided to just follow them as they would surely lead us to the fair.

Turns out the fair was in a meadow to the rear of the village so we walked all the way through the village before arriving. In retrospect we should have explored the village before going to the fair while it was still empty as it became packed later on in the day. Upper Canada Village depicts life in 19th century Canada and the buildings are all historical. They make their own bread and cheese in the village that you can buy in the gift shop and it is delicious!

The first thing we saw when we arrived at the fair was the pickle man. He was selling pickles on a stick for $2, it was a very popular snack. I did not get one, yuck! The merchant was hilarious though and had us laughing right away.

The Royal Family

Mom and I were fortunate enough to catch a little skit involving the royal family and some peasants. It was pretty hilarious.

There was something wrong with the video function on the camera so please excuse the picture quality.

The minstrels were very good

IMG_9145.jpg

The first event we saw was a weapons demonstration. A little boy in the crowd was laughing at the pants one of the demonstrators was wearing as he thought he was wearing his underwear on the outside of his pants.

Next we saw an archery demonstration. The man in the red pants had an unfortunate bulge... Then I couldn't help but laugh at the poor man in the black and yellow shirt, he just looked so ridiculous. I know, I am a horrible person. The were all very good though and hit their targets.

Mom loved the outfit on this lady

Mom and I wandered around a bit just taking everything in and looking at the stuff for sale. We then decided we better go grab our seats for the jousting tournament as we could see people already starting to congregate around the field.

I ended up with a little girl sitting next to me and she had to assure me that the knights were not actually hurting each other during the little skit where the dasterdly son runs down his father and then sword fights his brother who is trying to avenge their father. :lmao: It was all very hilarious.

The evil son was finally defeated and the rest of the jousting tournament could continue.

The jousting was the highlight of the festival, I was laughing so hard at some of the skits and it was fun to watch.

After the jousting Mom and I decided to leave the fair and explore the village.

Unfortunately it was very difficult to get good pictures as the village was packed with kids. I was really cursing myself for not exploring the village before going to the fair, oh well, c'est la vie!

The only time I have seen so many kids excited about a school!

Well the gift shop was even more packed than the village, you could barely move in the place. Naturally this was the busiest spot in the whole place.

IMG_9328.jpg

Unfortunately Mom and I missed the first bread sale of the day and we would have had to hang around for another hour and a half for the next batch and we weren't about to do that no matter how good the bread is. I did get some yummy cheese though!

Overall it was a fun day. I was disappointed we didn't get any bread but it was fun to experience a Medieval Fair, something I had never done before.

It was a pretty cloudy day with some sunny patches. I neglected to put sunscreen on that day and when I got home I found that I had Tink burned onto my chest from my necklace.

I would've been all over those pickles. Just love 'em

Wow...that fair looks like so much fun! I can't wait to go to one.

Must've been really cool exploring the village. Reminds me Black Creek Pioneer Village. I haven't been there since gr.2, but I really want to go back

I like that pink bow the little girl in the store is wearing

wow those pickles were pricey, we get ours around here for under a buck in the barrels like that.

but they are good so i might have bought one for 2 there.
:thumbsup2

I've been to Black Creek Village, I went with my friend Shannon when I flew to Toronto back in Grade 8 to visit, very similar concept.

Everything is more expensive in Canada! Sad and unfortunate truth.

Your pics of the medieval fair are beautiful Lessa. We would have been roped into a few pickles on a stick. :lmao:

 No way I was going near those things, I was grossed out just seeing other people eat them. ;)

Lots of great pictures. Canada looks so beautiful......

Cheese is good, but with bread would be even better........

It's not more expensive....it's just the exchange rate.

Well...it used to be...even though the American dollar is weaker than ours, we STILL have to pay those high exchange rates! :sad2:

For a while now, our dollar has been very close to the American dollar, but none of the prices up here reflect that.

Loved The Medieavil Fair Pix !!I went to one in Sterling NY years ago !! It was the first time I saw Turkey Legs sold !! We really enjoyed it too . Loved the pix of the Penny Farthing bikes (at least that's what they call them in England )

I forgot at Age 12 our town put on a pageant about King John and his crusading brother Richard . I was in one of the dance scenes and while waiting to go out a Weight for the Portcullis hit me on the head !!:rotfl2:Now you know why I am LOOPY!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Update on what mom has been doing while the kids are away

I got my first speeding ticket ever... I blame the kids... I was so excited to get home to start celebrating my two weeks of freedom, I put the foot to the metal. " Oh, I'm sorry officer, was I speeding" The reason you ask. Well...., he didn't buy it and it cost me a few dollars. When I told Lessa she laughed, as I NEVER speed, and am the proverbial Sunday driver.

After work drinks on local patio with a few people from work

Today, I felt the Ottawa Earthquake in Kingston. It made for an exciting moment, it took me back to the Oct 17, 1989 earthquake in California that took down the overpasses in San Francisco during the World Series, we had to evacuate the building where I work as it shook real hard.

This week has been real busy, getting ready for two cultivation events for Multi-Millionaires in the area and those who have summer homes in the Thousand Islands, I have been doing mega mega research on all the guests (call me private eye Beth LOL), and I have gotten to know them quite well... Well today I got a call from one of guests and asked if I would be joining them for lunch tomorrow (A millionaire a few times over, asked ME to join them for lunch !!!!), Yes, there were a few single guys on the guest list... So , what did I say????, hey what can I say, I'm a lucky girl, lunch with some major $$$ and then cocktails with some more major $$$ and docs in the evening (I work as a Major Gifts assistant with a foundation that raises money for three area hospitals)... Stay tuned...

No life has not been too dull, without the kids, have I missed them??? Will I be at the airport in Toronto to pick them up???

I felt it here in Waterloo too!

We were sitting around one of the student lounges. And someone said, "Hey....Is the building shaking?"

"Is this an earthquake?"

"Nooo, we're on one of the oldest plates in the world, it can't be. Might be an explosion like the one in Toronto."

"No...this is an earthquake....people over at Milton and Sarnia felt it."

Someone calls their mom in Ottawa, "Ok...they say it originated there."

A 5.5!!! It's unheard of!
