A Disney Proposal: What do you think?

My bf and I are always talking marriage and we go to disney every year.. he knows that is my dream proposal site.. last year we got a early morning reservation for Crystal Palace we were there with my bf sister and her fam and I had my son with me.. We have INCREDIBLE pics from that morning because photopass is out and the park it still closed! There is no one in the background of any of our pics from that morning. There were photogs all up main street and several right in front of the castle.. all I could think of was that this would be the perfect time for a guy to propose because you feel like it is just you there....

:goodvibes Congratulation!!! Is there a Disney wedding in your future?? ;)

I know I'm late, but I wanted to throw my two cents in here for any other person who is thinking of proposing at WDW. I think the best piece of advice for anyone planning to propose in WDW is to keep an open mind and several back up plans, in case it does not go over as originally planned.

My DF proposed at WDW and it was the PERFECT proposal-I honestly could not have wanted anything more :lovestruc Later, I found out it was not my DF's original plan, but he had several back up plans so it all worked out in the end & he was happy with it.

He was originally going to propose at Spectromagic (our favorite parade), but our dinner took longer than expected, so when we left the restaurant we were smack in the middle of the crowds along Main St.-waay too crowded to propose..... way to crowded to move!! Then he was going to do it during Wishes. We had a great spot, but we got stuck next to a REALLY horrendous family with two very badly behaved kids who were running around blowing bubbles in our faces and hitting us with their pirate swords:mad: I swear the couple we befriended on the other side of us were ready to rumble with these parents! Not the most romantic moment for a proposal!! Finally, the park announcing their closing for the evening, and my DF suggested that we take one last walk around before we headed out. He ended up proposing on the castle, right in front of the tunnel to Fantasyland. There was not a soul in sight, except for a clean up worker a little ways away by the carousel. No photopass, but to me it was perfect! Very private and romantic & I will remember it as the most magical moment of my life!! We took some pictures afterward and we were happy with that.

Anyways, proposing at WDW can be a dream come true for any gal, but those who are interested in doing so just just be prepared with a back up plan, just in case your original plan does not work out. I was secretly glad that ours ended up the way it did. I loved feeling like we had the whole park to ourselves, for just that moment! :cloud9:

Congratulations, it sounds like it went really well!! And even if the pictures didn't come out that great at least you have something :)

Congratulations! Thank you for coming back to let us know how it went, I've been wondering if you stuck with your plan! It sounds perfect, and I'm sure she LOVED how much care and thought you put into it. I"m sorry the pictures didn't really turn out, but I'm sure you'll both treasure the moment for ever, blurry pictures and all!!

Thanks, all!

I'll echo minniebride's suggestions on having a back-up plan or two...it's hard to plan for the crowds and the mood and the weather and all of that...I'm glad I waited until fairly late in the Magic Hours. While the park wasn't empty, it was pretty wide open, and that helped...

So I’ve been googling and reading about Disney proposals for the last month. My GF is a true Disney lover (I see DVC in our future). :goodvibes. We are heading to the parks very soon.

I've been doing some lurking here, but I thought I’d ask the experts for their opinions and advice on my plan. The proposal itself is pretty simple, and requires only a small bit of help from two CMs. Here it is:

Location: At MK, during Magic Hours, late in the evening (11 pm-ish)

  • 1. We go into a large store on Main St.; I make an excuse to separate from my GF (“Oh, I’d like to get you a few small presents. Let me pick ‘em out…”)

  • 2. I go outside and find the nearest Photo Pass photographer, to pitch this: “We come out, holding a large Disney bag. We get a few shots, then you have a ‘problem’ with your camera that leaves us standing there for a few seconds. I use the delay to begin going through the large Disney bag to show her some of her presents, suggesting she reach in to see what she can find. The bag includes a few small gifts (some candy, t-shirt, key chain), plus two ‘Just Engaged’ pins plus a diamond ring. When she finds the ring box, I take it, drop to one knee and propose…” This requires help from CM#1.
  • 3. I return to the store, buy a smattering of small gifts and ask for the biggest Disney bag they have. Perhaps they have “Just Engaged” pins? (help from CM#2).
  • 4. I meet up with the GF, and we walk outside…where if all goes well, Step 2 goes into action.

So my questions are: Do you think this would work? It is basically a “just in time” plan in that I talk to the CMs just minutes before it all happens.

Any recommendations on a store that is a decent size, on Main St., with an exit close to the Photo Pass folks? Near the Castle would be nice, but not required. Would the CM in the store be able to round up “Just Engaged” pins, or should I try to snag those at the hotel or at Guest Services?

Thanks all! I'll appreciate (and take to heart) any tips or advice! :)

great ideas! i also proposed at the MK, but it was this past may. i would highly recommend to call ahead and work with the staff there and everything that you mentioned will/should be able to happen. they are wonderful when it comes to that. also, don't do what I did and kept the ring in the same bag that she would have to go in an out all day (haha). but good luck and it really should be able to work out.

First to the OP congrats on your engagement in Disney. I proposed last April (Tax day) LOL and we are due to get married in two months and will be spending our honeymoon back in disney. I hope your planning is as good as mine was. Your plan was great and im glad it all worked out.

Now for those of you looking to use the Disney photography route, here is a little trip report with pictures on my april engagement so you can see how great everything turned out. Good luck to all the guys trying to propose to there beautiful women in disney, it truly is a night to remember.
