COMPLETED REVIEWS INDEXED IN POST #2Greetings to one and all, I hope you are having a magical day! :hippie: If we haven’t met before, here is some kinda long intro so that we can get to know one another. If we’re already good friends, please feel free to skip right on down to post #2 for an index of ADRs and CS places in our plan (with links to reviews, when complete). Completed reviews indexed in post #2!!

Welcome to my second dining report, now in the pre-trip planning phase. :welcome: For the first time ever, I booked a trip to WDW with less than a year to go…Actually, I booked it at the 79 day mark!!!:scared1: This means I really have had to work for our ADRs, which have been especially difficult to get due to the FD promotion and everyone else having already planned their TS meals. Now, I’m not complaining about the FD promotion…if it weren’t for that special, we wouldn’t even be going to WDW this year. :woohoo: So anyways, super-excited and also a little stressed, I have been spending every free moment here on The DIS, particularly on the Dining Reviews board (my favorite), looking for ideas about where to eat (and what to order once we get there). :surfweb: I wrote a dining report after my last trip, and I welcome you to follow the link in my signature if you are interested. Since this trip is unexpected and relatively unplanned, we are looking forward to a mostly different experience than any we have had before, and the DDP does have some influence on our choices. I should also mention that we are formerly deluxe snobs going mod (staying at CSR), and very excited about that!:goodvibes

Here’s just a little note on our feelings about Disney dining, before I proceed to the introductions. We all LOVE Disney Dining :lovestruc and appreciate the restaurants for a number of reasons. We enjoy the wide variety of food and experiences offered at Disney, and have made magical memories at many different venues, from Chef Mickey’s to California Grill to HDDR to ‘Ohana (these are amongst our favorites) :wizard:. We also feel that the CS establishments offer a quality and ambience (theme, flavor) that surpass most other CS places on the planet, and appreciate them for their overall value as well as their quality of food and uniqueness of items offered. We had read tons of reports about the declining quality of food and service at the restaurants, but last summer, we found just the opposite to be true. We are looking forward to comparing that experience with our upcoming trip.

The DDP works nicely for us because we like a grab-n-go breakfast (we often, but not always, use our snack credits for breakfast), a quick CS lunch (usually in the parks between attractions), and a nice leisurely sit-down dinner. Last trip we used a TIW card because it was a longer trip and we had several signature meals, but this time we need to keep costs relatively low, and the DDP is free, so we will surely enjoy it. Just so you know, there will be appetizers paid for OOP…so sad they are not included in the DDP, at least as a choice to swap for dessert. We usually prefer the appies to the desserts, so we will probably order one or two to share at each meal.

For those who aren’t familiar with us, allow me to introduce you to my family…

Me- I’m Jasmine, floor nurse on the night-shift and on-line nursing student. I’m 44 years old and addicted to Disney World. I can visualize myself working at one of the infirmaries at WDW when I retire from my real life. I’m a huge fan of dining out, I enjoy all kinds of restaurants (but I’m a little snobby about buffets). I appreciate almost any kind of food, but I usually find poultry a little bland and boring. DH made me watch Bambi shortly after our wedding :sad1:, and I cried through a box of tissues and went vegetarian for about 10 years. The carnivore in me has resurfaced, with a vengeance. I usually order fish when I dine out because I don’t cook it much at home (DH is NOT a fan), but there’s something about WDW that makes me crave MEAT! I still really love and value my veggies, and I enjoy a nice wine or cocktail (that is my favorite word in the English language, BTW, “cocktail”) with dinner.

DH- Aladdin, actor, fireman, community service guru, salesman. He’s 47 years old and addicted to Disney World (believe me, if he wasn’t addicted, we would NOT be taking this trip). I can visualize him as a greeter at one of the resorts when he retires from real life. This trip is Aladdin’s birthday and anniversary present to me, and I can’t even believe my luck to have such a wonderful hubby who is taking me back to WDW just 13 months from our last visit! :cloud9: He always seems to find a way to pull magic from the bottle! Aladdin loves food, pretty much any food, except fish that might contain a bone of any size or shape (which makes him gag and eschew the rest of the meal ), and he is blessed with that gift of the bottomless stomach. He can eat more than anyone I know and still stay in great shape. He will occasionally enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail (loves a Lapu Lapu), but he mostly appreciates an ice-cold glass or bottle of beer or ale with his hearty dinner.

DD- Belle, actress, writer, artist, and now…driver! She just turned 17 and is addicted to Disney World (is it in her DNA, or have we indoctrinated her?). She is entering her senior year in high school, and is deeply involved in that scary college search thing. We are freaking out that she will be leaving us next summer. How far she will go is still in question, but it will be driving-distance away from home (her choice). Her impending departure is a large part of our justification to squeeze in this sneak-in to WDW. It is her life’s goal to become a Disney Imagineer, and she hopes to participate in either the Disney College Program or a college internship at Disney within the next few years. I can visualize her writing story boards for new attractions! Belle enjoys her food, believes everything tastes better in Disney, and is partial to desserts and poultry (not a really big red meat fan). She will occasionally surprise us and order a fish or seafood dish.

DS- Hercules, actor, musician, athlete. He’s 14.5 years old and is addicted to Disney World (nature or nurture, no one can say?). He is entering High School in September, is looking forward to playing football in the fall and participating in the HS musical in the winter. Last time I checked, he wants to be a professional actor when he grows up. I can visualize him on stage at the HDDR! We are officially celebrating his graduation from 8th grade on this trip, since our last trip was dedicated to Aladdin’s and my 20th anniversary and Belle’s Sweet 16. Herc’s favorite meals from our last trip were Chef Mickey’s and Cali Grill, which gives you an idea about his broad appreciation for Disney Dining. He enjoys chicken if it’s fried, but otherwise prefers red meat or fish. Hercules is not a big veggie fan, loves chocolate cake and anything with CHEESE (except cheesecake). In fact, if he has the option, he asks for that with EXTRA cheese.

We will be staying at CSR from August 30-September 6 (dates adjusted due to threat from Hurricane Irene) on Free Dining, regular DDP. This is our first stay at CSR and the kids’ first time at a moderate resort (Aladdin and I stayed at CBR with a group of fun-loving friends back in 1991). We considered POP Century, but we love our TS meals, so we figured with the cost of what we would have paid to upgrade our dining plan (with 4 “adults” in the room), it was worth it to go for the mod. CSR was our first choice for a mod, as we have been talking for a few years about being intrigued with the theme and how much we like the look of the pool. I was thrilled when I called Central Reservations on such short notice, and it was still available with the promotion! We can’t wait to try the Pepper Market and the pool bar!

Come on down to the next post to read about our specific dining plans. I welcome your comments and suggestions, and thank you for joining us in our adventure!
:grouphug:

Monday, August 29 Cancelled! We are arriving Tuesday, 8/30, due to threat of Hurricane Irene

Tuesday, August 30 (Now arrival day - CSR)
B - grab-'n-go from our favorite local deli
L - Pepper Market - COMPLETE - Page 2, post #24
D - ADR at Citricos. We really want to start our vacation off with a Character Meal (as is tradition) in the MK area and then head to the park for a few rides and Wishes, but I have been unsuccessful at scoring an ADR at 1900 Park Fare at this late date (we have already done CM and CP, and PF is 1st choice for something different). I will continue trying to get PF, or we will try to walk in on Tuesday. If we are unable to dine at PF, we will drown our sorrows in fine dining. Either PF or Citricios will be a first time for us. Got 1900 Park Fare, cancelled Citricos -
1900 Park Fare COMPLETE - Page 3, post #39

Wednesday, August 31 (MK day) Stays the same
B - probably grab-'n-go from Rix Cafe or breakfast bars in the room.
L - Columbia Harbour House COMPLETE - Page 4, post #48
D - Hoop Dee Doo Revue. This is our family's favorite all-time dining experience, and our only solid must-do of the trip. I booked the 9:30 show because we have found it to be a little funnier and also so we could get Cat 1 with the DDP, but we might pay for this OOP (see explanation below). COMPLETE - Page 4, post #55

Thursday, September 1 (Epcot day) Stays the same
B - same as above (I know, I know, it's getting redundant, but we HAVE to make RD and just don't feel a sit-down b'fast is worth the time or money or credits, based on how we like to tour).
L - Biergarten (one of Aladdin's favorites). Hercules isn't crazy about this place, but if all else fails, there is unlimited CHEESE on the buffet! COMPLETE - Page 5, post #65
D - Restaurant Marrakesh. What should we order? We don't want a bland meal! We're thinking about trying both feasts? COMPLETE - Page 5, post #70

Friday, September 2 (Now DHS day)
B - Starring Rolls - COMPLETE - Page 5, post #75
L - Studio Catering Company - COMPLETE - Page 6, post #76

D - airport

We are looking forward to the following snacks (at least):
Dole Whips
Kaki Gori
Karamell Kuche
Norway - want one of those cornicopia pastries

I have booked more TS venues than we have credits on purpose. I have to do the math to figure out if we are better off paying OOP for HDDR or 50's PT + Biergarten (which I think will be 2 our cheapest TS meals). Does anyone have first-hand experience with this?

So that's the line-up. What do you think? Thanks for joining in!

Signing on! We'll be there at the same time but I don't see that any of our plans overlap. Looking forward to reading your reviews when we return!

Count me in!! Your line up sounds awesome. I remember my last trip with my family before I went to college - it was amazing. You guys will have such an amazing time!!!!! What a cool thing to do!!!

You'll also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE CSR! I think that it's definitely one of the best resorts on property.

Can't wait to read your report!!!

Sounds great! Can't wait. (I really didn't intend to write a rhyming response. ;) )

Welcome, fellow, er...baseball fan! ;) Glad you're joining! Whereabouts in NY are you from? I'm looking forward to reading your reviews, as well.

Thanks! Scary enough, I also remember MY last trip before I went to college! It was magical, but I don't want to think about how long ago that was! ;) I have a really good feeling about the chemistry between us and CSR! We can't wait, and thanks for your positive thoughts. You're getting me really psyched up. Can't wait for your report, either!

Haha! You're a poet and didn't even know it! ;) So glad you're reading along.

:welcome: to all of you!

Of course I'm in for this!! I can't wait to read more - I looked at your plans and they don't overlap with ours either even though we'll be there at the same time. I think there are quite a few of us there at the same time too! Oh well, I'll drink my Grey Goose Slushy and think of you having fun at HDDR! ;)

Currently live in Dutchess County ... grew up further upstate in Saratoga County. Just realized you are in Westchester!

Oh, that Grey Goose Slushy is soooo delicious! I had a few last trip! I would have another, but this time I think I want to try a peach snap in China...and a few more avocado margaritas from La Cava! We only have 2 days for Epcot, so I have to make tough choices with limited resources ;). Do you have a PTR? I would love to read about your plans. Welcome, and thanks for reading! :) ETA! Oh, never mind!! I found yours, yes you and your sister are so adorable!

Hey, neighbor! You had to love that game last night. Me, on the other hand...not so much .

So on Wednesday night I started to realize that this major hurricane is predicted to slam the NY Metro area...which means we are expecting major flooding and power outages (we are prone to these problems during normal storms, never mind hurricanes).

I started FREAKING OUT by Thursday, and after getting permission from my wonderful, generous Aladdin (the (flexible? :lovestruc) wish granter), and my sweet, benevolent Hercules (the teenager who is willing to forego his Freshman orientation on Tuesday, 9/6), I started calling Disney Reservations and JetBlue to see if pushing our dates back one day would even be possible. Well, it was not only possible, but EASY :wizard: (if not a little time-consuming, as both Disney and JetBlue are inundated with calls from anxious customers, as you can imagine). So now we are instead going Tuesday, 8/30 to Tuesday 9/6. Would we be able to fly out Monday am? Well, from the most recent forecasts, it looks like probably...but I feel better this weekend not having to worry about it. And now we have an extra day to deal with any potential damage to house and property (which we hope to avoid, but just in case)! I'm feeling good about the switch and now the beautiful anticipation phase lasts an extra day.

Of course, I had to rearrange some ADRs, so check out post #2 for the changes I made. Mostly just had to switch some dates around. Arrival day is a little more up-in-the-air, since that is the only day we are trying to get a super-popular ADR. Either way, it will all work out!

I'm joining in! Love the intros and dining choices! I'm with you on the vegetarian phase - went through it at one point and then ate a meat samosa by mistake - after that it was all systems go and I made sure I got my fix of meat!!

Aaw I love the way you described DH and my 14 year old sister sounds similar to your DD. I can't wait to eat at 50s PTC and have fun and games with the server. Does that get you excited about the pot roast? I tried my best

Finally I'm sorry to hear Irene has affected your plans - hope your trip goes smooth sailing and nothing else gets in the way :goodvibes

I'm joining! Hopefully you are safe from Irene. We went through night without electricity. (live in NJ, 45 min from Jersey shore).

Wise to change plane tix. You'd have been a nervous wreck thinking you weren't going to get out of town. Have a friend on Mouse Planet who was leaving Saturday morning from NYC. I kept saying, "CHANGE!!!!!" TUrns out, she made it. Now another NYorker is AT WDW and got canceled for today. She did get rescheduled for tomorrow. I hear the airport(s) will open tomorrow morning. Have a magical trip!

Thank you so much for reading! Good thing I eat meat, because today I'm starting a special high protein/low carb diet. I won't even be allowed to eat veggies for a few weeks. I'll keep you posted about how that goes.

Turns out I loved 50's PT and the pot roast was delicious after all! Stay tuned for more details!

Thanks for joining! I would have responded sooner, but our electricity was out from early morning Sunday 8/28 until Wednesday 8/31. We left our cats in the dark on Tuesday morning with lots of battery-powered lanterns all over the house for the pet sitter. It was nerve-wracking, but not enough to spoil our vacation! I was only sad I couldn't post a "I'm leaving now" kind of post on The DIS!

You are right, I would have been a total wreck all weekend if I hadn't made that change when I did...and maybe there would have been no availablility for changes any more if I had hesitated. Our airport (Westchester County) was closed until 3PM on Monday, so our original flight for Monday morning was indeed cancelled. We got out Tuesday morning on a gloriously beautiful day without a hitch, and the trip was perfect! We came back last night to another mess...lots of flooding all around us, but our flight was only delayed about 25 minutes and we have power! My parents live in Holmdel and they had no pewer outages during Irene, but they did lose power yesterday. Go figure! Thank you for following my DR, and stay tuned for some reviews!

sorry that Irene scuppered your first day but glad you changed your plans easily.

Thank you! I think we actually had a better trip because of it, and appreciated it even more. The whole first day we were just gleeful and felt like even more magic happened because we were lucky enough to be able to change. And the way I reorganized our park days kind of worked in our favor, I think. I guess we payed the price on the back end of the trip. The kids were TIRED leaving for their first day of school today. We probably should have left a little earlier out of MCO yesterday...we just didn't want to give up any last hours of magic. Glad you're reading!
