I got a really cheap tote bag for a dollar at the Dollar Tree. It has pastel stripes. I figured I would use it when we go to the pool. I don't really think any kind of t-shirt design would work on it, but I was wondering if any of you had an idea of something I can do to decorate it for disney? It is a canvas material. I am thinking I can make some kind of design on some other kind of material and then sew it or fuse it onto the bag? Any ideas? Of course I can use it as is, but I want to go all out with as many things diseny as I can. Thanks!

I've got a canvas bag that I'd like to use an iron-on transfer on. Wondering if that will work too or if I'll end up trashing the bag?

I didn't think the iron ons would work well on canvas but there are websites on the internet that say you can easily do iron on transfers on a tote bag. If you do try it, I hope it does work. I saw a website that said take pictures and put them in the clear plastic sleves and put them on a tote. I am sure I will come up with something. Just not sure if I will try the iron ons or not. My bag was only a dollar so if I ruin it, I can try again. Good luck.

I tried an iron-on on a canvas tote bag. It worked really well, but I messed it up because I didn't really think about the difference between the light and dark transfers, so I don't like the way it looks. I am planning on making another, though. It worked and looks perfectly fine.

...Actually, I just remembered I made one for my grandma after the first mistake. It turned out great! She uses it all the time and gets compliments on it all the time. Everyone at her retirement home said they wanted one.

And, now that I see Amy's post, I did put Silver sparkly fabric paint around the outside edges of the design just to make sure it was really secure.

Last October, my family and I went to Mickey's Halloween Treat in California Adventure and I wanted the kids to have bags that could zip closed for their candy so when we went on ride...

I bought these canvas bags at Joann's on sale and figured as long as they lasted the night, it was fine. I used transfers I had on hand, that I wasn't thrilled with (quality wise). The transfers didn't stick as nicely as I would have wished but overall I was very impressed with the way the bags turned out. I went over the corners of all of them with clear glue just in case. Around the black design I used a black glitter paint I had on hand as well. And glued ribbon around their name design.

I just took these pictures today and they have been handled a lot in the last 6 months, so they held up pretty well.

This just gives you an idea. By the way, if I were doing it again, I do not think I would put as many transfers on each bag. It was a much bigger job than I had thought it would be. But again, I was happy with the results.

Go for it, the worst you can do is ruin a one dollar bag.
