I am writing an argumentative paper for one of my classes (20 pages!!)that is defending our right in holding on to that inner child. My main topic is those who put us down for loving the mouse. I was wondering if you guys had any good stories you'd be willing to let me use. I am looking for any story but I am also interested in particularly younger children being put down one of my arguments is that children seem to be growing up too fast and if you don't mind could I just have the age of the child and first name ( for citation purposes).

If you don't feel comfortable posting feel free to PM me. I would really appreciate ANY insight anyone has even if it is another point in getting across why our love of the mouse shouldn't be looked down on. thank you !!!!

I don't think my kid has ever been put down for loving the Mouse!! His whole family are Disney lovers...well most of us.

I think we need to embrace that inner child because too often things get waaaay too serious in our lives and we forget along the way how to have fun, laugh so hard that our sides hurt, throw slumber parties, and be a "kid"!!

I call DH Peter Pan because he's truly a big kid. At times I love it and at times I can't stand it. But, it's whats makes him him..ya know?? I think alot more adults should embrace their inner child because alot more things could get accomplished in ways that we couldn't even imagine!! I hope this helps!!:thumbsup2

Not really Disney related, but four years ago my kids and I had the fortunate luck of meeting Tim Burton and Hellen Bonham Carter here in downtown Toronto (Kensington Market) during the Toronto International Film Festival.

We walked around the market together, and Tim was one of the most interesting people I have ever met. We went into a cheese shop, and Tim kept asking my son (then 5) what he thought of every sample (the twin girls were only 2). You could tell he was geniously interested in what Brendan's answers were. He stated that he LOVES listening to children, because they aren't limited to what they think others want to hear. Tim says he tries to tell most of his movies from the point of view of a child, or at least of a child's wonderment of the world.

We spent about three hours together, and his parting advice to my son was to "never let go of your child like wonderment of the world".

I am constantly questioned by my best friend and some co-workers about my vacations at Disney. All I hear is "What? Disney Again? Can't you go somewhere else? Not to mention, my sister. For years I've heard from her that 'we Floridians' don't like Disney. I am forever defending my LOVE for the Mouse and all things Disney. It used to bother me, but now, I just smile and start talking about what I'm going to do...and they just shut up or go away. Works for me.

For some people, they just don't understand the "magic". Maybe it is that we Disney Lovers are still kids at heart. It's like last year near Christmas, my DGD asked me if I still believed in Santa Clause. She stated that some kids at school were making fun of the kids that did still believe. My answer was YES, I do believe. I guess it's the same with Disney. I believe in the magic and Pixie Dust too.

Good Luck on your paper.

My niece, Lyndsey, is teased at school for wearing Disney shirts. She is 10 years old and she loves Tinkerbell, whenever I see a really cute Tinkerbell shirt I get it for her. Over the summer we were in the Disney Store and I offered to get her a Tink shirt, but she said "No, that's okay." I was like..."What?!" :scared1: Then she told me some of the kids tease her, they said Tinkerbell is for babies. :sad1: I felt so bad. I told her Tinkerbell is for anyone who loves her. I told her that I wear Tinkerbell shirts and I'm not a baby. I asked her if SHE still liked Tinkerbell shirts and she said yes, so we compromised, I got her a Tink tank top for summer (not for school) and then I went on-line and got her a silver Tinkerbell necklace that you can't really tell is Tinkerbell (unless you look close) and she has been wearing that to school.

I was 13 when I discovered I loved the parks but always loved the movies. If I were to get all philosophical I would say it stems from my home life growing up. There were not a lot of happy times we had as a family but most of the ones I remember dealt with Disney in one way or another, either the movies or the parks. Two of my earliest memories in life are getting stuck by a train on the way to the drive in to see The Fox and the Hound and going with my mom to see the re-screening of 101 Dalmatians.

I have to say though that I really don't get a lot of stick for my love of Disney. I do to take trip other places and have other hobbies so the Disney appears diluted. When questioned I usually just say it is what it is. Unfortunately that would make for a very short paper.

What type of class are you taking?

I am talking a composition class to help me write better. and she wants an argumentative paper with a subject we are passionate about. :goodvibes it took me a second to think of this topic;)

Thanks guys keep them coming..... these are great and thanks for the links jcb!!!

Wow this is great!!!! I have goosebumps!!! and how lucky are you to have spent so much time with Tim Burton too cool

you guys are knocking my socks off with these stories:worship:

May not be too related but this kind of made me mad/upset and it has a little something to do with your topic...

I was watching an old episode of What Not To Wear with this young woman - Kelly. They showed her in the undercover footage wearing a tank from Disney (I have it, it's the black tank with Cinderella's coach on it) and using an Alice In Wonderland tote bag. They were completely making fun of her for wearing "childrens clothes" even after she admitted to only wearing the tank around the house (p.s. the tank is sold in womens sizes). She seemed as if she was a huge Disney fan because they showed her going into the World of Disney in NYC. I understand the premise of the show but sometimes I think the hosts reach a little when they are reviewing people's wardrobes. It's not such a big deal to have those items as long as you aren't wearing them to a business meeting!

As you can see, that episode made me slightly angry...not sure if you can use that in your paper..Good luck with the writing! Will you let us all know the grade??

Of course I will let you know how I did but I don't turn it in till early december. But I can tell you I presented my topic to the class today and they all thought it was really interesting!! so now I'm even more excited to write it.

I will take any stories you guys have because you never know it could spark a great concept/argument!!!
