A DISer’s Trip of Firsts! [Updated 8/4, Post #95]

At this point, I think we went back to Buzz Lightyear . Haha, yes, we did go on that ride 3 times.
no shame in that!!! I love it! Can't wait to ride TSM in HS, I'm so excited!

My mom always says that she’s trying to get a certain target when I suddenly rotate the vehicle. Haha, I felt so bad! So I said, “Do you want to use the joystick?” and she goes, “No! I can’t do both things at once!”
My family does the same, one year my brother and I had a fight with the joystick, we just spent the entire time spinning each other everytime we went to get a shot in, great fun!

All morning, my parents were saying that I had it all under control. Haha, organized with FP. I had it down to a science. We wouldn't have had the ability to ride those rides so many times if it weren't for FP. They didn’t have to worry about figuring out where to go next. They didn’t even have to look at the map in the morning. And yes, I still do get a map … I know that’s a DISer no-no, but I like looking to see what attractions I’ve missed … and yes, I admit it … I ADMIT! I don’t know the park as well as I would like. Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are the two places I know a lot. We don’t spend much time in the other lands. The next most common is Frontierland. But if you want me to navigate my way around Adventureland? No way … haha, this comes into play later on …
I get a map for 'souvenir purposes' honest! :rotfl: haha I still need a map sometimes... I don't for DLRP though!!

I love the end with the party! Yay! And Pooh makes me really want to have some honey … when in reality, I don’t really like the taste.
I'm exactly the same... always want honey coming off that ride, hate the stuff thought!

It tastes a bit more like smoked ham than it does turkey but if you like it, then it's all good.
Oh thank goodness someone else thinks the same as me!!

that's the longest line I've ever had to stand on in my life (3+ hours)
:scared1:

The medallion up on the shelf. I thought I would be able to find it myself since I had seen a picture of it before … but gosh, it’s really hard to find because that store (as well as all the other stores) are so decorated! Haha, I suggest you ask~

Here’s Pirate Bob and me! This was the FIRST time I took a picture with a really good CM. Really helped with that Disney magic!

ooh good going asking, I would have just looked around for ages!! haha. And he looks really cool, its amazing when you meet CM's like that!!

We made our way to Briar Patch, the Splash Mountain store, because that's where Mom and Piglet were waiting for us. They were looking at the keychains and I saw the usual keychains we've been seeing for a while. But then I found a Mickey Mouse one that was so cute (a picture in an installment to come)! I picked it up to buy. Yes, to buy! This was a FIRST because I never buy souvenirs for myself! I always figure the flattened coins are my souvenirs!
Can't wait to see a picture!

With that, I’m going to leave you until the next installment :) Patience is a virtue, you know!
Oh come on!!! haha don't make me wait... patience maybe a virtue but it isn't one of mine!!!! :rotfl:

Great update :thumbsup2

My final score for the day … oh to think how much higher it would have gone if we went on it again! So this was a FIRST for me because I had never gotten such a high score!

Congrats!

I'm not very good at Buzz. I can never figure out where exactly I'm shooting, so I end up just pulling the trigger and moving the gun around. It usually doesn't work out so well!

The smile on my face is VERY fake. Why? Because as I was slipping through the bars, I hit my head against Zurg’s arm. There were a ton of people waiting to take that same picture so I couldn’t pause to rub my injured noggin. Instead, I plastered on a smile of pain.
TR9-2.jpg

When we went last year we didn't know if you were actually allowed behind the bars, so our picture is kind of half in, half out. Then I came back and saw all the pictures here and decided you must be allowed in!

I just don't like it anymore because it's a great deal of meat. It tastes a bit more like smoked ham than it does turkey but if you like it, then it's all good.

The turkey legs look so gross to me. And usually I love turkey, but just watching people eat them make me nauseous.

I knew it was high up above but couldn't find it myself because there's so much going on in that large store. Then he took me another spot and showed me the key that Will Turner had. I thought that was so cool! He was so nice that I asked to take a picture with him.

I had read about the medallion not that long ago, but didn't know about the key. I can't wait to find them the next time I go back.

How cute is that picture of you and the CM with the hand hook!?

This was right in front of The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management so we decided to just watch that show so I could sit for a bit.

This is a ride I won't go on because of my fear of birds. I've never been on it because even when I was 12 I was scared of birds. Do the birds all stay in one place? I'm pondering maybe riding it next time to see what all the fuss is about on the DIS.

I think it's funny that I like Disney so much now, so much so that I would want a Mickey keychain.

I can't wait to see the picture!

Your Tigger bowl is so cute!
The M&M tube idea with the quarters & pennies is great! I will have to do that next time!

Sounds like a great day at MK so far. You did a lot of rides!
Your buzz score just kept going up! :thumbsup2

Love the picture with CM Pirate Bob. I will look for the medallion & key next time, or I will look for Bob and ask him.

If you get a chance, meet Aladdin, we have met him 3 times (over different trips) and he’s always great.

I am going to tell Jacob the Capt Hook joke tomorrow, he will love it.

Don't be a lurker ... :D

After reading your other "TR's" (though they can't really be called TR's since they're not on DIS, I still find so much joy reading them again here. I mean, it makes me want to go to WDW so very lot but it's also helping me live vicariously through the reports and pictures. Keep 'em coming! :thumbsup2

btw, have you shown me the Mickey keychain???

Love your trip report! Keep it up!

By the way, how do you post the links to your individual posts? Thanks!

Haha, that would be fun too! To not bother with the guns and just have fun moving the vehicle around and enjoying the rooms. Because I always know where to turn for certain high-target points, I don't think I know what's on the other side of those rooms! It would be fun to just look around and even examine things like the track and stuff like that. Hmm, now I've gotta go back!

They should somehow incorporate Pooh in selling honey. The little squeeze bottles in the shape of a bear doesn't entice me. However, if it were Pooh, that'd be an entirely different story. It would HAVE to taste better, wouldn't it? Haha. That'd be an excellent marketing strategy for someone like me!

Haha, I'll try to get the next installment out ASAP!

I'm not very good at Buzz. I can never figure out where exactly I'm shooting, so I end up just pulling the trigger and moving the gun around. It usually doesn't work out so well!

Just in case, do you know that you don't have to keep pulling the trigger on the Buzz Lightyear ride? You just keep it pressed down and it shoots every few seconds or something. I didn't know that the first time I went on it many years ago. My hand and fingers (as well as my family's) really hurt after that! It was so tiring! Then I read info about it online and was like ... oh ... haha!

I think the turkey legs are even more nauseating in the heat. Like, I don't know see how people can eat massive amounts of meat when it's hot out. Of course, the first time I had it was at AK when it was REALLY hot, but I still liked it. I guess my appetite has changed!

The Disney CM's are so great! I just saw a link at the bottom of a thread on DIS about how Six Flags is NOTHING compared to Disney. I'm going to Six Flags this Saturday and I'm wondering if I'm going to be expecting too much. People wrote and siad that the "CM's" at Six Flags are people who don't really like their job and just don't seem like they want to be there. Haha, such a difference from the majority of the WDW ones!

Yes, all the animatronic birds stay in one place. You have to look up to watch the show. They hang from the ceiling on perches (and the perches move around so that the audience can see) and then there are a few around the round on the high parts of the wall. The main characters are the birds from Aladdin (Iago) and ... some other famous Disney bird ... oh yeah, Zazu from The Lion King. Although it's not really the best thing that MK has to offer, I think it's still a "must-do" just so that you can say you've experienced it! Hope you make it one day. Haha, let us know how that whole bird thing works out :)

The M&M tube idea with the quarters & pennies is great! I will have to do that next time!

I learned about the M&M tube idea from DIS! Recently I read that someone also used the finished pill bottles. I think the M&M tube would hold more though. Just as a suggestion though ... considering all the flattened quarter machines, you might want to just have a tube filled with quarters!

I like that Disney adds that extra magical touch of putting in the props from the movie. They don't even call attention to it by placing some huge sign near it, haha. It makes me wonder how many other "hidden" things there are in all the parks that I have yet to learn!

I think I'll have to make sure I add seeing Aladdin to my list of things to do! The characters in full costume (where you can't see the person's face) kind of scare me a little up close because they're so big, haha. But Aladdin wouldn't scare me at all, considering Aladdin's usually a cutie too ;)

Good to know I'm not the only one who found the Captain Hook joke amusing!

Don't be a lurker ... :D

Technically if you're planning on going next year, you might have to start planning now! And you've seen the Mickey keychain. It's in a picture with Bailey.

Love your trip report! Keep it up!

Thanks for reading!

After the SM area (Mom and Piglet had gotten FPs for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad when we went on SM), we went back to Pirates of the Caribbean. The timing was great because when we were on the line that first time, it was so much longer. This time it wasn't as long. Yay, not as long to see Johnny Depp! Haha, or should I say, Jack Sparrow. This line was the most annoying though, not because of the length or heat or anything like that. It was annoying because the boy in front of us was insanely hyper and kept pulling every single chain and clanking everything in sight. Then I kept getting pushed from someone behind me. The girl behind us was also hyper and kept bumping into us. That was slightly okay because the mom kept telling her to be careful. The thing that really bugged me was this big, chubby man. His belly kept bumping into my backpack and I don't think he realized it. I never know what to say in situations like that … I mean, I turned around a few times hoping that they’d get the hint but they didn’t. So was I supposed to say … “Excuse me, you keep bumping into me with your stomach”?

We finally got on the ride and we got back row seats since we were only 3 (it's slighty smaller than the other rows). The baby girl (the little sister of that hyper boy) was also on our boat but at that time she had fallen asleep. She was so adorable with her pigtails! I want one of my own ... and I want to put a Tigger hat on her. Hehe. She kept dropping her pacifier too. On the way out of the ride, she dropped it on the moving upwards flat escalator so I picked it up for the mom.

They made changes to the ride since the PotC movies so I was excited to see them. It was the FIRST time being on the ride since those changes. The first thing was Davy Jones. They used a machine to create a steam curtain of some sort where they could project the image of Davy Jones on it so that he could talk to us. I don't even remember what he was saying, I just was so amazed at how it was working. I thought it was projected on a mist of water but we went right through it and it was only air! Amazing!

The drop was next and Piglet survived it. My dad always makes drops into such a big deal. I kept saying, "It's so short, it's not scary" to reassure him. This isn't the time to get him even tenser than he already is! Afterwards there were a few more changes ... Jack Sparrow! The Johnny Depp animatronics robots were amazing! This is another one of those "No flash photography" rides but I saw someone in the boat head using the camera so I did too! The no flash ones weren't coming out good so BAM ... use of flash. Hehe. Got me some good pictures of Jack Sparrow! Of course … I felt/feel bad because I know there are a lot of people, especially on the photography board, who can’t stand people who use flash … sorry! It was the FIRST time that I did that! And it’ll be my last … I think …

Here are the pictures:

Jack Sparrow!
IMG_2460.jpg

Here he is again sticking his head out of the barrel!
IMG_2461.jpg

Not exactly Jack Sparrow, but the “chou gerk” (smelly feet, in Chinese). When I was a kid, my dad would always pretend to try and touch the foot. I’d always say, “Nooo!” thinking he would actually do it. Of course, I would never imitate him. When my dad does these things with Piglet though, it’s bad because Piglet’s the kind of kid who would copy bad behavior!
IMG_2464.jpg

The last picture of Jack. He was in the treasure room, right after the jail scene. It’s dark because I wasn’t expecting him to be there so my camera wasn’t prepared.
IMG_2465.jpg

After the ride, we went and found Mom and then made our way to The Haunted Mansion. It's right across from Columbia Harbour House, the restaurant I wanted to eat at for lunch. We didn’t walk all the way there for my food because it would have been such a trek while my dad was holding the turkey legs. We then saw that there was a turkey leg stand right next to it! Ahhh, Dad could have gotten it there and I could have had my lunch! Boo. The reason we didn't go to that restaurant was because it was far away. Next time we'll know ... then I’ll have another first!

Yummy, I want some fish and chips! I also want to eat upstairs. I think I read about that on AGPrincess’s TR. And look, a HM CM! Can you imagine how hot that costume is in the summer?
IMG_2466.jpg

Okie dokie … that’s about all the time I have at this time! I really need to focus on my lesson plans. However, if you still want more to read and more pictures to look at, you can check out the other thread I started on the VMK boards.

Although VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom) is now closed, my friend HowWeird and I printed out pictures of our characters to make flats. We had them laminated on Saturday and we've been going around taking pictures with them. It's very similar to the Flat Stanley project. So here's my shamless plug! The link's in my signature too.

Click this ... you know you want to!

Haha. I did not know that about Buzz. I think I tried it one time, but my score wasn't going up so I assumed it didn't work that way. Apparently, I just really suck at Buzz.

I also just asked DBF about it and he said, "Of course it works held down. It shot slower when you pushed the trigger all the time." Hmmm... Well, thanks for telling me! ;)

And thanks for letting me know about the birds. Moving birds on perches above my head.... I don't know if I can handle that. Maybe it will be my goal for my next trip.

I was really impressed with the Davy Jones apparition too!

I took a quick peak at your flat adventures! That's so fun.
We did the flat stanly project a couple of years ago.
I am going to read more tomorrow.
(We also went and picked up Mickey heads for the first time last week!!!)

I found my way to your TR from your wonderful Flat Adventures thread...woot!! :thumbsup2 I really enjoyed reading your trip report and seeing your pictures! And I have almost the exact same picture of Tigger from when we went on the Pooh ride and the honey pot turned as I was taking the photo  Kinda makes you wonder just how many of us have done that, LOL. Loved your pics from Pirates of the Caribbean!!! We were SO excited to go on that after the changes were made, talk about impressive! And now that I've seen the pics of the medallion and Davy Jones' key you know I'm just going to HAVE to see those for myself next trip! Love how you worked the vmk pics into your TR, and we are still sooooo sad in this house :( over it closing. But when I do finally buy printer ink we will have those lovely flats to always remind us of our fun times there.

Thanks for sharing your TR....we're headed back to WDW in late August and now I'm even more excited!!

Haha, now when you go back, you need to see how much higher your score can go! Beat DBF! And then take a picture of it for some proof :thumbsup2

If you do go see the show, take a picture in front of it afterwards. Then you can say you've defeated it! :cool1:

We sat at the back of the boat, and I turned around to continue looking at the Davy Jones apparition! It's amazing what the imagineers can do!

The 2nd graders at my school are doing the Flat Stanley project. They have a map in the room with string connecting push pins to the postcards. I think it's a really interesting project to do!

It gets me really excited when VMKers make their way to this TR :)

Next time I'm going to have to go on that ride again to make sure I get a perfect one of Tigger! Haha, know it well enough to compensate the moving vehicle.

That was the first trip as a VMKer so I got a kick out of everything that was there ... the Emporium and the Frontierland Mercantile and such. Beforehand, they were just random shops. Now they were life sized VMK shops! I wanted to go inside and ask Esmeralda about the specials.

Yay! When you have your flats made, bring them to WDW!

I still haven't had much time to write the next installment of the trip report, so I figured some pictures from childhood visits to Disney would be good to tide you over!

Haha, I don't look very happy to be at Epcot. I only liked Epcot as I got older. Maybe I wanted to be at MK!
IMG_2984.jpg

Does anyone remember those strollers? I thought they were so cool because you could sit back to back with someone if you made the back rest lie flat.
IMG_2986.jpg

I seemed to be scared of certain characters.
TR27.jpg

Even now I have an issue with costumed characters so I must have been scarred!
TR22.jpg

Haha ... or maybe it was just Pluto?
TR21.jpg

I actually remember the exact feeling when this picture was taken. I was just so uncomfortable and scared and frozen. I didn't even want to turn around ... I was trying to distract myself by looking elsewhere. Funny thing is, I actually LOVE penguins now! Although this Mary Poppins penguin is really creepy looking ...
TR23.jpg

Okay, I'll post some more another day! Good night, folks!

Awww, how cute!

I just got some old pictures from my mom's house with the intent of scanning them in, also!

That penguin IS really creepy looking. Haha, it looks like you were keeping an eye on him so he wouldn't make any sudden moves. Looking forward to reading the disclaimer for the Nemo ride! :thumbsup2

Hello! :wave2: Found you by way of my TR, so I thought I'd pop over to yours. I'll have to head over to Flat Adventures next! :thumbsup2

Cute "retro" pix! I've said this on a bajillion threads by now, but I need to ransack my parents' photos so I can reminisce.

Looking forward to reading more!

I loved all of your old pictures! I realized that we don't really have that many from Disney! My dad barely took out his camera. Gotta make sure I don't make that mistake with my future kiddies!

Haha, I'm not going to put a disclaimer on anything. You can just bypass my ride spoilers! Hehe.

Thanks! Sometimes I think the best thing about "retro" pictures is seeing everyone else in the background. I wonder where he or she is at the moment. I wonder if anyone in the background of the photos is now a DISer!

The Haunted Mansion line was all the way outside. I was excited to see it because it was refurbished and just recently open again at the end of last year. I knew that they had added an attic scene so I was excited (yet nervous!) to see it. I knew it meant seeing the bride one more time. The line wasn't that long. I think it was because it wasn't that hot so it wasn't torturous. I can't imagine waiting that long in the heat.

We watched some of the people on Tom Sawyer Island and I really wanted to go (I knew it was too late to find a paintbrush but I still wanted to explore Injun Joe's Caves) but I knew I really didn't have the energy for it. Tom Sawyer was one of my favorite books in elementary school. That whitewashing part was my favorite! It’s only appropriate that I would want to find a paintbrush! Plus, I also thought it would be so cool to go in the caves … with Piglet, of course. I don’t know that I’d explore the island by myself!

Just a picture with Tom Sawyer Island in the background.
TR16.jpg

While waiting on line, I saw the pet cemetery and I had also read that there's a spot for Mr. Toad! So I found it all the way at the top and took a picture of that too. Haha, poor Mr. Toad. I was always afraid of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. As a kid, I used to kind of go through that ride squinting. I don’t even remember why I thought it was scary. I know it jerked you around when it made the turns. I also know that I didn’t feel “covered” enough in the vehicles.

Searching …
IMG_2471.jpg

Found it! Mr. Toad! I actually checked on youtube for a video of it and realized why I was scared of it!
IMG_2470.jpg

Here are some more pictures from the queue. Here’s a stand full of Jack Skellington stuff! I took this picture for my cousin because she loves Nightmare Before Christmas. She just graduated with a degree in screenwriting and this is her favorite movie.

Creepy mansion …
IMG_2469.jpg

Don’t you love how Disney pays attention to every little detail?
IMG_2473.jpg

Even on VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom)! The HM Lobby …
vmkair.jpg

(um, don’t mind the comments … I kind of passed gas just then and there, haha)

Anyway, on the HM line there was also a newly married couple wearing the bride and groom ears. I definitely want those ears with the veil! Of course, that's in the future, you know, when I have the chance to have the baby to wear that Tigger hat. Right before we entered the mansion, we were standing by the tombstones. The one with the bride has a head on it that moves out of the tombstone a bit and then the eyes just pop open. I knew that it did that so I was pointing and watching and other people started watching it too. Haha, creepy yellow eyes.

We headed into the main room, saw the deterioration of Master Gracy's head, and then moved into the "elevator" or the stretching room. In WDW, the walls move up. In DLR, it really is an elevator that takes you underground because they needed room to build it. Of course, the illusion was totally spoiled this time because people were still walking into the room when the walls were moving. Haha. Don't ruin the image!

Here’s the VMK stretching room. I love how they put the 3 pictures in the back on the bottom level. Oh, and that’s Phineas! One of the hitchhiking ghosts.
HauntedMansionStretchingRoom.jpg

At the end of that little intro, I didn't look up though because of the slightly vertigo-like feelings. Moving my head was causing very unhappy, dizzy feelings. Of course, it has nothing to do with the fact that the stretching room TERRIFIES me. Haha. I don't like it when the lights black out and there's thunder and you see the body hanging from a noose in the attic when the ceiling becomes transparent. I think I saw it once a few years ago. I never knew to look up in the past because I was just always scared of the room suddenly getting dark. I still cling to my mom when we’re in that room. I kind of pretend that it’s because we can’t get separated (haha, which is true! It’s not like I’m making that up!).

We moved into the room where you load into the doom buggies. A while ago, the last pole before you loop around in the queue used to have a gargoyle with a smooth face. This happened because everyone seemed to hold on to it when they turned around. But I don’t think it’s there anymore! That’s disappointing!

The ride paused before we got in because there were a lot of wheelchair people that had to get on (we saw the whole line of them outside). I knew that they would have to pause the ride a few more times when we were actually on it. I told my mom this and we were hoping that it wouldn't stop in front of the suit of armor! I had read about a time LONG time ago where they actually had a person in the suit of armor who would jump out and move towards the doom buggies! Ahhh! I would totally freak out if that happened. Last time we rode it, we were paused right in front of it!

We loaded on and the last CM was really freaky. All the CMs who work in HM are supposed to be dead serious. That last one was really doing his job. In the summer, I imagine that working in HM is fun because of the air conditioning. But gosh oh gee, I think I’d be too freaked out to do that!

Here's a FIRST ... I actually kept my eyes open on the ENTIRE RIDE! I've never done that before. I normally close my eyes throughout most of it (even though I'm one person who always says we have to ride it!). They changed so much, it's unbelievable! There's a room full of stairs that go every which way. Then the attic scene is creepy. The pictures that show Master Gracey and his almost bride are normal until you move farther past them and then Master Gracey, I believe, disappears! Then you pass by a really large version of the bride herself really up close (it’s on the left side … I was sitting on the right side! Phew)! Scary. She's standing next to a wedding cake too. I believe they changed a few things in the cemetery scene too. One creepy thing about the ride ... at one point they lean you backwards in the doom buggy and you go backwards. I read that it's like you're dead because it goes exactly 6 feet down, as if you're being buried. As a kid, I just thought it was cool that the buggy could do that. Knowing what it signifies now is just plain ol' creepy.

Yes, we were right. It did stop 3 times when we were on it! Haha. The last time was when we were almost off the ride and there was the tiny bride saying that we were welcome to return and if we did, we must be sure to bring our death certificate. Of course, we heard that creepy voice repeat the same thing over and over again. However, it gave me a chance to look up and back at the little hole in the wall that projects the image of the bride's face onto the plain figure. Those little things are cool. That's why I want to take that tour, I believe it's called "Keys to the Kingdom" or something to get the inside scoop about all these things. Oh right, the huge spider is also gone from the ride. Haha, I don't mind that being missing.

And just because this is my TR and I’ll post if I want to … here’s a picture of the HM game that Weird and I loved (and totally miss!). The post was to catch the ghosts of your color without being caught by the other color.

I know I’m prolonging this TR, but I’ll be better about posting starting next week or so. I finally finished my first year of teaching last Friday, but now I have a church coffeehouse event that is requiring a lot of time for preparation! Got to remember my lines! Besides, it's a lot easier to write it out this way. Not as overwhelming. Stay tuned!

I love the HM! It still crreps me out even as an Adult. The rehab was great IMO but I still love the feel of the one at Disneyland more. Its just creepier to me.

Great post--you included so much detail about the HM that I'd forgotten about in even the hmm three weeks that I've been back home. Thanks for helping to rekindle my memory!

Congrats on making it though HM with your eyes open!!

In the stretching room, I'm always torn between clinging to someone for dear life and trying to act like I'm not scared out of my mind because the CM's in there usually scare the people who look scared!

All your pics of VMK make me kind of sad I never tried it and won't get to now.
