It all started when I was a baby...
Well, I thought that I should write a pre-trip report after seeing so many others writing one. I kept hemming and hawing and I thought I better do it before June comes along so here it is...I'll start out by introducing myself and giving you a brief history of me and my path to Disney obsession. Other family members will be introduced as we go along. Oh yeah. The first couple bunches of pictures will not be the greatest of quality as I had to take pictures of pictures. Poor little ole me has no scanner.
So now hold on tight cause here we goooooooooooooooooooo.......
My name is DawnMaree and I am, uhm.....well....okay, 41. I dont really like to announce the age anymore but were all friends here and Disney makes us young at heart, right? I am a full fledged Disney obsessed stay-at-home mom with time on her hands to browse the DISboards probably more than I should.
I sometimes like to joke and say its my Moms fault because she placed me in Donald Duck high chair as a toddler. She doesnt think thats funny, but I do.
I know you really can't see the Donald Ducks in the chair but you have to trust me here. He's there! Work with me people! You may be wondering what I am eating here. A tub of margarine. Now isn't that the most adorable thing? Thanks Mom!
Moving on down the years...in the summer of 1975, when I was 9 years old, my parents took us to California for a half vacation trip and half to console my grandmother who had lost her husband (Im not sure what number he was...he was not my grandfather). In fact, I didnt even know that was one of the reasons we went out there until years later. My dad really made it our first real big fun vacation. Grandma at the time lived in Monrovia (southern California) and we did all the touristy things like China Town, Olivera Street, driving up the mountains, Universal Studios
, Marineland (not there anymore), Santa Monica Pier. That was before the Pier was really all built up with the rides. Peter Falk was there shooting for his tv series and I went up and got his autograph because all the adults were too chicken. I had no idea who he was but knew he was famous. My mom took that autograph and now I want it back! And my mom had her camera stolen with all the pictures she took of the tv shoot. SHOOT!
Oh yea, we also went to a little park you all may have heard of. Its called Disneyland. That was back when there were E tickets. I remember going on the Madderhorn a bunch of times - glad my Dad was/is a ride junkie. Heres a pic of me, my little brother, and my cousin with Snow White and Doc. I'm on the left. Ya know, I heard that Kevin Costner's first wife used to play Snow White around this time. I wonder if this is she?
I wish I knew where the pic of me with Dopey was. I remember that everyone kept telling me to kiss his nose and I kept thinking, Ew...how many people have kissed his nose? Gross.
Did any one ever go there when they had a smaller train ride that went into the painted desert? Here's a pic of that scene. Sadly, another ride gone...
I think my mom only took like 5 pictures that whole day - either that or some of the pictures she took were the ones that were stolen in her other camera. She took way too many of Universal Studio though!
Well, I fell in love with Disneyland and every time I went back to California I just had to go to there. Boy, I thought I was really cool the first time I got to go there alone with my cousins. We thought we were quite hot! Too bad I can't find any more pictures from those times. Sorry but you may have thought I was just to hot to handle anyway!
The last time I went to Disneyland was back in 1993 during Easter time with my parents and my brother. It was really fun but the following year I met my husband and he stopped me from going back to California!
So stay tuned for part 2 when I introduce DH and our (okay, maybe just my) newfound love....Walt Disney World!....Meeting my husband and getting married
