no middle ground. Everything seems to have to be one extreme or another and no in between. Has anyone noticed that or am I late to the game?

I don't think it is just the Disboards!:rolleyes1:goodvibes

I personally like reading other's opinions and sometimes I even change my mind about something when I see that you can look at it from a different point of view. It is a discussion board after all. I hate that a lot of people do seem to think that it is their way or the highway.:rotfl:

GOSH!!! WILL YOU LIGHTEN UP!!! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Oh wait... :goodvibes

Yes, it's not a fad of going to extremes. Just seems a lot more prevalent lately.

It does seem that way. But a lot of the threads that are controversial have a gazillion hits and a fraction of posters. I think there are lots of people that see shades of gray that don't respond. Hard to say.

(Bolding mine) I think OceanAnnie hit the nail on the head. I am among the lurkers who might follow along reading a lot of threads but I don't necessarily post. I tend to be middle ground and sometimes I may not have finalized an opinion but am reading along to understand various viewpoints. I think probably if people log on and take the time to post it is because they feel strongly one way or the other on something. Therefore, it would appear everybody is extreme. The middle grounders just aren't weighing in.

I think you are in the minority, I don't see many people changing their opinions around here. ;) :)

I don't like the judgemental tones of a lot of threads. If you don't agree with them you are a bad : parent; spouse; friend; co-worker; take your pick! Lots of "my way or the highway" posts on some threads.

I don't know if it is a recent thing tho. I have lurked for a long time but last several months I've been posting a lot more. So I thought I just noticed it more coz I've been around more.

I think it's just a function of typing on a message board, rather than just talking. If 10 people are standing around and discussing something, everyone will likely be asked their opinions, and you'll ge a real (even toned down to be polite) sample.

But if the same 10 people read the same first comment on line, only the ones with strong opinions (or different ideas) will bother to type out a post. The middle-of-the-roaders will bypass it and click on to something they feel more strongly about.

I won't post on a thread I don't feel strongly about. What the point of posting on a thread you are the middle of the road on?

I have noticed and I love it! Provides hours and hours of entertainment when work is slow. I can't help but think that a few of the really "uptight ones" and a few of the really "diametrically opposed ones" post just to stir the pot.
Good times. :goodvibes

I've been thinking 3x before starting a thread lately. I used to have a thought pop into my head and just post - boy did I get smacked a few times :rolleyes1

I actually think there are lots of middle of the road folks here. However, when one has a specific view of something then anyone elses opinion could be viewed as being extreme.

What they said! :thumbsup2

It depends upon the topic and it also depends upon how it is phrased in the OP. There have been times when I might agree with the OP but not for the reasons posted. For me, sometimes I post a middle of the road opinion, it depends on the topic, the day, and the time of day.

Definitely not a DIS phenomenon, but a message board phenomenon. My DH sees it on his message boards, too, and they don't even have controversial topics, LOL.

I think some people will say something on a chat board that they would never say to someones face.

It seems to rotate as to who can be the nastiest poster of the day. Pushing their opinion on everyone about everything.
