He's 8, probably 2nd grade? Even if he was in third, in Texas, there would be no tests at that time. Didn't notice where he is, though, and have no idea what others do.
I say, it's okay, if the absences won't go over. There will be only a few weeks left when he returns.........enough time to make up anything missed, but not so much time that he's liable to have another big illness. If he's doing well, he will still be doing well then, and not too much brand-new stuff to be learned the last month...........more making sure everything is cemented and packed against summer damage!
I thought the same thing when I read 20 personal days for teachers. We get half that for sick days, only allowed half of that for personal reasons, but personally, I don't know any teachers who take them! Generally, other than illness or kids' illnesses, all the teachers I know don't miss.
For the teacher who has done...............how is it you don't have parents all over you? Boy, the parents around here would get really upset if we took off all that time whether ill or not. I had a group of them in the prinicipal's office demanding I come back from maternity leave because they didn't like my long-term sub! I told them I'd be back when I originally told them I'd be back.........one of them told me "Stick the kid in daycare"........direct quote. This from a stay at home mom!
