A different 2Bdr villa question

I was just wondering if I have a 2bdr booked, and then want to change the res to a 1Bdr instead... do they have to cancel me out of the 2Bdr and then book me into the 1Bdr. Or can this be done relatively easily, since technically, a 2Bdr can really be a 1Bdr and a studio?

I can't imagine that they assign the dedicated units to specific ressies until the week before arrival?

I have a 2Bdr booked at xmas thinking my parents will join us, but if for whatever reason, they don't, I would like to save the points and downsize to a 1Bdr. But I wouldn't risk screwing up the booking just to save these points.

Comments? Concerns? Opinions? Experience? Anything?:confused3

You would need to cancel and rebook. I have no idea if they would put the inventory back in as a 2BR, or as a 1BR/Studio. There very likely would be somone on the waitlist ahead of you if it was a popular travel time.

Your booking will tell you if you have a dedicated 2-bedroom or a lock-off. This is now a booking category, not something that's designated during room assignment.

I still believe they'll make you cancel and re-book, though, which puts those on the waiting list ahead of you.

I didn't know that the ded units were a different booking category. Thanks for the info.:thumbsup2

I don't think I will worry about cancelling the 2Bdr if we are without the parents. Don't want to risk loosing my res.

Thanks for the advice:hug:

Do you have enough points to book a one bedroom, THEN cancel the 2 bedroom? If so, that would work, as you'd have a confirmed one bedroom reservation before cancelling the 2 bedroom.

I probably have enough points to do this, but the points that are associated with the 2Bdr booking are 07 points that were banked. I would not want those points put back into my account and have to use the 08 points to book the new 1Bdr res. Since I'm not returning before June08 I could run the risk of needing to use these 07 points.

I have read that points can get " switched" after bookings are done, but I'm not positive that this can be done.:scared:

I just don't want to mess up my points, I'm relatively new to this and don't know all the "ins and outs" of what happens to your points during the reservation and rebooking processes.:confused3

I may just wait to see how it all works out, if I want to change to the 1Bdr, I will check availablility first. Then, I'll see what that specific CM advises that they can do and go with it.

If your points are all from the same resort, I don't think there would be a problem with reallocating the points, so the banked points would be used whichever room you were in.

While it may depend upon certain circumstances, I did cancel a reservation yesterday for an upcoming trip that used banked points, and I asked the CM if those points could be applied to our existing reservation for December, so I could bank the points after my use year starts in June. She did it in just a few seconds, but I did need to ask.

All of my points are for OKW in a June use year.

Thanks, that helps. I think I may see about booking the 1Bdr before cancelling the 2Bdr. I will confirm that they will reallocate the banked points to the new res when the first one is cancelled.

I just HATE the thought of wasting points on a 2Bdr when a 1 will do.

I suppose the same manouver could be used when trying to "switch" resorts? I would like to try AKL or VWL the week before xmas if they were available, but wouldn't want to risk cancelling out of my SSR res unless I was very sure about the availability and about reallocating the points. If I could book the new resort before cancelling the SSR res, I would feel a whole lot better about switching the resses. It's just too tempting to get creative with my vacation locations. This whole flexibility thing is a curse and a blessing!:headache:

I see from your ticker that you have 3 children, all above the toddler age. Let me just tell you how WONDERFUL a 2BR is compared to a 1BR - you won't believe the difference in the quality of you vacation. My family has 3 people - me, DD19, and DD14 - and I book a 2BR every time we go unless we are really short on points. I'd much rather borrow from next year in order to get the space.

A 2BR lets everyone sleep in a real bed, not on the sofa beds. We have had two trips recently at VWL, SSR, and AKV - my DD14 slept on the sofa beds at each resort (so a mix of the old and new styles) and she had backaches on each trip. She said they were ALL uncomfortable. If we have to use a 1BR next time I would rather take an Aerobed for her.

Go ahead and use the 2BR this time, and see for yourself. It's not a "waste" of points if it really enhances the vacation for everyone, in my opinion!!!!
