Ok, it's my turn to admit that I am a Lurker. It all began back in 2008 .....:hyper:

I had dreamed for years of going to Disney World. I would look at the glossy travel brochures in my younger days and daydream about how it would be to go to Disney World and stay at AKL where all the animals were, but my family just couldn't afford to travel when I was a kid.

Finally in 2008 I decided now was the time to make my dream a reality. I began researching and stumbled upon the Dis with its wealth of information. Our finances at the time didn't allow us to stay at AKL but we could afford POR!!! I couldn't wait any longer - My husband and our two daughters headed down in April, 2009. I was so glad that we did - we LOVED it :lovestruc (at least I did - and isn't that enough?).

When we got home I couldn't wait to start planning our next trip!!!

I have learned so much over my years of lurking. The wealth of information available here on the Dis is just amazing. There were a few times when I considered joining, but there were so many others here that just knew so much more than I did and I thought I didn't know enough to contribute. Also, I must admit I was a little intimidated at times, some posters can be really nasty at times.

We were fortunate enough to return to POR in 2010 and again in 2011.

The last several months have been very difficult for us - in September 2011 my mother was diagnosed with throat/neck cancer and underwent surgery and weeks of radiation treatment. Then in November 2011 my husband was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma and passed away in February. Through that time the Podcast and the Dis have been my little escape from reality. I would read the trip reports and the other board and every week I would look forward to listening to the Podcast (especially Pete's rants) - which would always make me laugh or put a smile on my face.

So, to everyone on the Dis boards for their contribution of all the wonderful information here and to the Podcast Team for putting a smile on my face and making me laugh...... a very big,

THANK YOU!!!:worship:

Whew.... Now that I have confessed to my lurking ways (though I am not sure that I will post very much), I have to admit it feels pretty good to get it out there. And who knows, maybe one day I will be brave enough to post a Trip Report.:scared1:

I still haven't listened to the podcast for this week yet I've been busy but Pete seems to have really gotten people to post, kinda making me want to not wait I may have to listen before I go to bed tonight.

I'm sort of an occasional lurker myself I found the Dis in 2007 when I was planning a trip back to the world having not been in almost 13 years with my now husband had a wonderful time and don't think it would have been as nice a trip if not for the Dis. I found the podcast too during that time and have been hooked ever since. Unlike other people I wasn't able to go right back after my trip so sometimes reading trip reports made me sad since I hadn't had a trip to plan but still loved the podcast.

I returned when I somehow magically convinced myself and my husband to do the Knights and Lights trip for this coming October and so here I am! :wave2:

I can understand the the dis being 'overwhelming' and I feel the nasty people can be ignored. I've found the majority of the people on the dis, helpful and friendly though.

So welcome from a fellow former 'lurker'.

I 'tried' a trip report myself but never got past page one. Hopefully I'll do better after this upcoming October trip. :P

Thank You. I find it amazing that there is so much information here. I've always been able to find the information I was looking for and so much more that I've never really needed to ask questions.

I think some people have a natural talent for writing trip reports, I'm not sure that I am one of them. I think I would be like you and not get past page 1.

Thank you so much!
My mom is doing well. I think her only issue at the moment is a very dry mouth. Not sure if that's from the surgery (she had part of her tongue removed and replaced) or the radiation. She finds it very difficult to eat any type of bread. Do you think that will ever improve?

Definitely from radiation. Radiation damages the salivary glands. That probably will not improve too too much. Did they offer her any Salagen or Evoxac? Sucking on hard candy (if she can depending on her tongue defect) may help.
