We have been planning this day all week. Today was Gay Days at MK and we knew this but we have heard so much hype we wanted to see for ourselves if it was at all true. We got an earlier start than usual (for us anyway
) and were out the door by 1pm. We had parked at DD after one stop about 2:10. We headed for the busses and waited for any that would bring us to the monorail resorts. We waited close to 30 mins!! I could not believe that. We headed to the TTC and jumped the resort monorail to Contemporary and picked up a drink in our refillable mug from there and walked to MK. We arrived in the gates about 3:15 and we could hear the music for the Remember the Magic parade. I have never seen this and we stopped on Main Street and watched. Cute parade. They had to take both The Beast and Doc of the 7 Dwarves out of the parade- I think they overheated. IT WAS HOT!! My only other gripe was there was a family who had a daughter who was scared to death of the characters and she was screaming and they continued to stay!! Oh well. Next stop was Adventureland. The Tiki room was about to start and have yet to see this so we stopped. On a side note Aladdin had a 5 min wait. HMMM Brand new and no wait
.sad really. Anyway I have only one good thing to say about the Tiki room
it was Air Conditioned. We HATED This. Bring back the old room. Nuff Said. Next stop was Pirates of the Caribbean. Always a fun ride. From there we headed for Tom Sawyer Island. Oh yeah, let me just say there were a LOT of people. We did walk onto Tiki and Pirates but Big Thunder was a 70min wait so if that is an indication. Anyway we took a raft over to Tom Sawyer and walked around to the fort. Then we explored the cool (due to the A/C) caverns where we found a surprise. As we were going through, I yelled back to my fiancé, It stinks in here. As we walked further in we noticed that the smell was..POT!!! Yes I said POT. As we left the cavern we had a contact high. Not too happy about that. The only other bad thing was a group of men (all in red
) were running around and almost knocked over a few children. Shame. Anyway we headed off the island and began to walk through Fantasyland. It was almost 5pm and it was still REALLY hot so we left to go to dinner at Wilderness Lodge. As we were leaving we saw a lot of characters outside the park including Capt. Hook and Smee and also the Fairy Godmother. We took the boat to the Lodge and docked by 5:45. Now I was hoping to get the Open Faced Turkey Sandwich w/Mashed Potatoes but they did not have it. Turns out that dinner does not start until 6:15-6:30 and that is a usual Sat dinner special. If you ever get to try it DO! It is AWSOME! We then walked around the Lodge stopping to find out about DVC. We REALLY want to do this and we missed the tours for today but got an open invitation to come back again and check it out. I am looking to buy into the Lodge DVC. Any info that anyone has would be great. We then sat in the lobby a bit and talked about the DVC. On a side note I needed a pen and I went up to the front desk and asked her for one, promising I would bring it back. As we were leaving I stopped to give it back telling her I told her I would and she said I didnt have to. Jokingly I said that I would keep it then and she said I could. I told her I would use it always and always remember her. She found that funny. Anyway we then checked out the DVC Lodges and decided right then and there we would find a way to do this. We then played a game of checkers in the lobby area. Got my butt kicked
. From there we walked around outside the Lodge and found a few trails to walk next time we are there. By 7ish or so we decided to head back to MK. We took the boat to Contemporary and the monorail to MK. It was still very crowded but we took a ride in the Peoplemover. From there it was getting dark and people were lining the streets for Spectromagic. We went to HM with a 5 min wait and watched yet another child get drug onto something he was scared to death of. Such bad parenting. From there we fought the crowd and got to Splash Mountain. It was posted at 25 mins and I thought I spotted a line so we decided to skip it. By now the parade was passing so we were stuck so we watched it. Didnt see very much but cute nonetheless. I miss MSEP. When it was over we decided to check out Splash again and I asked the CM there and he said there was no wait so we went on. Got a rear seat and would have stayed pretty dry but we got soaked from the overflow of the log going down the mountain. IT CHEATED. J As we were exiting we did walk onto Aladdin and rode that. Really boring. We were ready to leave at this point so we headed to PI. Waited for a bus at CR and waited close to 20 mins. Saw a cute family with a little boy while we were waiting and told them about DD. Felt bad because they were going to shop and it was already almost 11pm and the stores close at 11:30. We stopped and filled up the bus at TTC and as soon as the lights went out, the little guy with the family was out like a light. TOO CUTE. We got to PI and went in. Went to a 12:05 of Comedy Warehouse. NOT FUNNY. They tried but the audience was just not as good. We hung out and went to the Beach Club but my fav band, Kabang, was not playing. We headed out about 1:45 and we were home by 3am.
Final thoughts:
Gay Days was all hype. I only a few examples of Gay behavior and that was because I was looking for it. And they were only holding hands. I did see stuff at PI but then again that place is for adults anyway. Today at MK was no different than any other day at WDW except for a lot of red shirts that said Gay Days. I did see a lot of men wearing the princess hats and Minnie ears though and I found that funny.
It was kinda sad to see Aladdin an almost walk on at 4pm in the afternoon being it is brand new. It really isnt all that great and the controls are very stiff. Does not respond well at all.
DVC sounds good. Even though we only live a very short distance away we find it worth it as we can use it for long weekends. Plus there are many other options to use your points for. The other thing is we will not always live in this area so we would always have a vacation spot. An excellent investment.
Well thats it for now. Summer is here and it is really HOT here. The hours for MGM and AK are also increasing so expect my AK trip report soon; possibly this Sat we may go this weekend.
Until Next week, this is your Weekly WDW Warrior signing off.
