A Day at Vero Beach

Has anyone ever driven over to Vero Beach Resort and spent the day. We'd like to check the place out during our summer visit to WDW. Is it ok to spend a day there? Use the beach?

I'm looking for the same answer you are. Can one "poolhop" to Vero Beach? I've got a feeling the answer is "NO".

You can tour the resort, lake, sport courts, some of the restaurants (Shutters, Sonya's and Green Cabin Room). You can use the beach (all shore beaches are public domain), but you WON'T be able to gain access through the resort gate, because you need a room key to do it. You also need a room key to gain access to the pool area, mini-golf, Bleachers (bar & grille). You can gain access to the beach just north of the resort (very close) where they have a public entrance. You can even rent umbrella, chairs, cabanna, etc. on the beach in front of the resort (rentals are not Disney).

I think technically and generally no... That said, I have read were people have brought their confirmation papers and asked CMs and WERE allowed. Not sure how that would work. Maybe if below a certain capacity they have a way to issue a temporary key.

According to Portable Perks VB does participate in Pool Hopping. You need a current Key to the World (room card) with "Disney Vacation Club Member" on it. There are some black-out dates (Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year weeks) as well as the normal capacity restrictions.

I don't know if your key will work. My guess is it will since I'm sure it is the same computer system which controls everything. If it doesn't, just ask at the front desk. If your key works at the pool, it will work at the gate going down to the beach.

It's far enough drive that if your just looking to go to the beach, you may want to opt for other places. If it's truly Disney's Vero Beach your interested in, spend the $ or points on staying the night!

We did that 2 years ago and it ended up being the best part of our trip. we ended up with a room that faced the ocean. The morning you would wake up to the sounds of the waves rolling in.

My family LUVs Vero Beach! we've been there for 2 week long stays plus the two nights at the end of that 2007 trip.

I just called the front desk at Vero Beach and she said it is no problem as long as is not in their blackout dates. Just go to front desk and show room key and they will give you a day pass. Also she said it is about a 2 hour drive.

We have done the trip from WDW to VB many times and here is some advise. You need to plan 2 hours at least. I would say three if you are going to stop. Be careful...not exactly the best areas to travel from the airport to 95. Stop at Palm Bay or Melbourne. When you reach VB, tell the guard you are DVC members and are visting. Then go to front desk, show them your Room key from WDW and ask for day pass. That should get you beach and pool access. We had friends come down to visit a couple of years ago and they had ZERO trouble doing that.

We drove from SSR for a day trip. Our KTTW did NOT work on the gate to the pool or beach. However, they did issue us a day pass that gave us access to both. We really enjoyed the day but won't be staying there any time soon.

Keep in mind it is two hours each way. That said, I remember my family traveling 3 hours each way from our Virginia home to one of the ocean beaches as a day trip and we loved it.

So get there at 9 or 10 am and stay until 7 or 8 pm, and you can have all the pool, ocean, mini-golf, bar & grille, do the campfire...

What a great way to preview the resort...

In my opinion, it is not a particularly nice drive to VB for the day. We did it a couple of years ago and had a nice meal at Shutters, but the drive was cumbersome. Alot of stop and go traffic once you get off of the main hiways. We were happy to see what VB was like and may stay there in the future, but no more day trips there, ever, for us.

You realize that totally contradicts what someone above was told on the phone only 3-4 days ago? Someone is wrong somewhere, or else the two of you didn't ask the same question.

And it probably is a pool hopping blackout day RIGHT NOW since it's Easter, so maybe that's the difference in the answers?

We love to split our week and spend the first half at the parks and then wind down with a few nights at VB. Great way to do the best of both!!

That's interesting since they did give me a key card for the day last month. Perhaps it depends who's on the desk as to whether they enforce the policy or not but I agree, I wouldn't want to drive all that way to find out that I couldn't use the facilities.

We visited Vero Beach last May for one day. We drove from SSR to Kennedy Space Center, toured, then drove to Vero Beach. We called ahead of time, explained what we wanted to do - the staff was very accomodating. We only had to show identification and some kind of DVC membership information. We were given a day pass at Vero and went to the beach for a couple hours (enough for our children to visit the beach for the first time). We then showered at the pool shower/changing area, changed clothes and drove back to SSR. It was a very long day.

The only real reason we did this was so we could shower after visiting the beach - we knew the resort would be very clean, etc.
