We would like to fit in a meal at a AKL during our full day at AK. Would you plan for lunch or dinner at the resort? Where would you dine to best be able to enjoy the resort/animals? Also taking into consideration loss of park time.... We love AK so it is more than a 1/2 day park for us. Thank you!

When are you planning to go? Sanaa at Kidani Village is open. Jiko and Boma have not reopened since the pandemic started. The Mara was closed, then re-opened during the holidays for breakfast only. It looks like it's still open, but I'm not sure if it will stay open.

In the past, I liked to pop over to The Mara when I was done at Animal Kingdom Park. But in the current situation, I would skip AKL.

Dinner at Boma. It is the best buffet on property. You can visit the animal areas before or after the meal depending on what time of year you go.
Are there any animal viewing tables in Boma? We have been there for the breakfast buffet while staying g there years ago but I can’t remember.

No animal viewing tables there but you can go to one of the animal viewing areas either before or after the meal depending on what time of year you are going.

Any options to pick up food at Mara (when it is open) and take to eat in a viewing area? Or is their a cocktail/appetizer lounge with Savannah views?

I'd do it for dinner so I didn't have to leave the park and come back after eating.

It partly depends on the hours that AK is open and which attractions will be running when you are there. When we went in December, the park was open from 8-8. We didn’t ride Kali because it was chilly that day and we didn’t want to get soaking wet. And, of course, neither the Lion King or the Nemo show was playing. We left about 11 AM and went over to Kidani and had lunch at Sanaa. Great table right by the windows and enjoyable lunch. We then went back to the park. We had no trouble doing doing everything else including both animal trails, the bird show, and two rides on the Safari.

Hands down dinner at Sanaa. My favorite restaurant in all of Disney. The bread service is so delicious, I just get that for my meal every time. And there is great viewing of the animals.

If the parks are still closing early, I'd do dinner after the park closes. If they are open later, I'd do lunch so that I don't miss out on how pretty AK is at night.

Dinner. Time to leave the park, eat lunch, and return is too much wasted travel time.
Whether you choose Sanaa, Jiko or Boma is up to your preference in menus. With all three choices, you can go out onto the savannahs, before or after dinner and spend as long as you like viewing the animals. There are numerous patio/balconies to view from as well. Consider time of year though as it gets dark by 5p in mid winter.

I don't see any reason to go to AKL just for a meal. Tiffins is a one of WDW's best restaurants, and it's located inside AK so no park time would be lost at all if you ate there.

The animal viewing during lunch at Sanaa isn’t a guarantee. The animals may or may not be in the vicinity of the windows, and not all tables are window tables. Of course, everyone wants to sit at the windows so even when you ask, you may not get a window table. I would plan the meal that most appeals to you. IMO it’s not worth leaving AK to do lunch on the chance you will have a good view of animals.
