I was just curious to know how many people who use this board and have indeed had Disney weddings live in the Orlando area and if so what made them choose a Disney wedding over other local alternatives say a beach wedding or even a wedding on the Disney Cruise......Just a curious question

not sure if we "count"...

When DH and I first started talking, he initially brought up a Cinderella wedding. We saw the "higher" prices :faint: and gave up that dream.

Fast forward two years and we looked at a Disney wedding again. The intimate was pretty much exactly what we wanted.

We were "legally" married at a JOP here in Virginia on Sept. 16. And we flew to Orlando to have our "real" Disney Wedding on Sept. 20.

Neither of us had ever been to WDW before and even though I considered other "local" alternative (beach wedding, wedding at Colonial Williamsburg, in a park) we figured that at least 95% of our guests (if any) would have to travel to attend our wedding. So we decided to travel ourselves! :teeth: In the end, no one could make our wedding (mid-week, costs, etc.) but we still have the magical memories! :wizard:

Either way, a wedding was going to cost us upwards of $6000-$7000 (at the very least), so why not spend it all at Disney and get the honeymoon too!

You might check through the wedding pictures thread to see who else is from the area. I've noticed quite a few Florida brides. HTH! ~Ev :)

My immediate family is in NY, other in NE area (VT, MA, NH, etc), He is from Texas, his family is in TX & OK. He was married before and his ex resides in Alaska with his 2 children (who are in the wedding). No matter where we have the wedding EVERYBODY would have to travel, why not make it a place you can vacation & that caters to tourists and it's Disney!!! Plus alot of my family is making it their vacation.

My hubby is active duty army & a beach wedding didn't fit him (he spent 15 mos in Kuwait in the desert).

A few family members are flying in for 2-3 days and cannot spend the entire time the rest of our families are so a cruise was out.

If I were to have a true NY wedding I would be broke!!! Why invite 200 people to a NY wedding whom you barely know (and who your MIL or Mom has on their list) when you can select the 35 people that MUST be there & share in your day.

So why Disney? The hospitality of their cast members, the magical memories of when I was child and growing up will now carry well into my adult years. And where else can you have Mickey Mouse (the real one) at your wedding to dance with???

We had intimate wedding last month. My wife and i think that what separates Disney wedding from beach wedding etc is the Cinderella's castle wedding photo session. Character entertainment also is unique and entertaining too.

We're getting married at Disney in January of 2007. The main reason that we chose it is because we both love Disney and DH2B proposed there. Its also convenient for us because a lot of my family is from Central Florida, including my grandmother who will be 87 at the time of the wedding and can't travel easily anymore.
Our family is also scattered around the country and would have to travel anywhere we decided to hold the wedding, so we figured we might as well ask them to travel someplace fun that they could make a vacation out of.
Plus, my sister is getting married at my parents' house four months before me, so I wanted to do something "different"! :)

um, FL groom here lol. joined the board as soon as we're about to decide on going with disney wedding. long story short, went with swan/dolphin wedding instead and it turned out wonderful. sure did learned a lot from disboards too.

Hi, I am actually a cast member and my DF and I chose Disney because this is where we met, and we both love Disney. We had each though of havng a wedding here in our previous liefs (before each other). I am from CA and I had always wanted a wedding on the beach but I really didn't want the hastle of planning a wedding 3000 miles away. So we are planning of getting married on the beach next to the WP. Disney is more expensive than some other weddings in the area but you are paying for the magical experince so if that is what you want go for it! princess:
