A crazy idea for a DVC resort

In short: DVC Adventurer's Club

The recreated and expanded Adventurer's Club is on site, and open to everyone, perhaps with special DVC-only hours or special "member nights". The whole resort has that slightly nutty Adventurer's Club feel, with knickknacks from all over the world hanging on every wall. Each of the Grand Villas would have different themed décor. When you arrive, instead of saying "Welcome home" they say "Kungaloosh!"

I can't decide if this is a crazy good idea or just plain crazy. And obviously we have effectively no input as to what new resorts get built. But it's fun to think about.

There was at one time several rumours that the AC would relocate to a resort, with AKL usually mentioned. And of course they was the standard "friend of a friend who said it's a done deal" posts....:(

If Disney felt that the AC had a significant following, they would not have closed it down.

An AC themed resort doesn't seem likely.

They had the following, they just didn't generate enough revenue. It was packed almost every night.

And I do understand that from the couple of times I was able to go there. Often people spent the entire evening, watching all the variations of the shows, but only purchasing a couple of drinks. It takes money to support the cast.

I think if they would've emptied the place between shows they would've seen better profitability.

Alternatively, they could have had a special cover charge or sold tickets. I know I would have paid more to go there.

Also they were missing a trick by not having a gift shop with souvenirs, pins, hats, etc. About the only thing you could get was a plastic souvenir mug.

Ultimately I think they would be unlikely to build a resort that was so tied to a specific entertainment. Too risky.

If they do build a Poly DVC addition, I hope it will include a Trader Sam's Tiki Bar or something similar.

They did sell tickets. Originally, you had to pay a cover charge to get in Pleasure Island itself. Then, at the start of the Downfall, they opened the island, and you had to pay for an individual ticket to get into a club, or a multi-club ticket. Am I misremembering that AC and CW actually required the multi-club ticket as well? If so, it was even more expensive to get in than the dance clubs.

Of course, you could also use your Plus/WPFM/Premium AP to get in as well.

They DID sell some merchandise. I've got a polo shirt. There wasn't a ton, but it was sold upstairs.

I doubt they'd ever tie a resort to a single entertainment option like that. But a resort that is themed where the AC would fit right in, that would be different. It would have fit in at AKL.

It could also be a nice fit as an additional restaurant/lounge in the UK pavilion at Epcot. Wasn't the original theme that it was a gentlemen's club in London? That's what I always thought, that it was the place that these guys who go out on great adventures hung out when they were home.

Yes, the last time I went, it was free with Pleasure Island admission, and like a lot of people I had a ton of Water Park Fun and More credits, so it felt pretty much free to me.

I had heard that Adventurer's Club was the least profitable of the Pleasure Island clubs because it fit fewer people inside, who bought less alcohol. And of course the cast costs money.

Frankly I always felt like Pleasure Island didn't really fit with Disney's whole vibe. The Adventurer's Club was the one exception. I'd love to see them figure out a way to make something else like it that has the "magic" we all love.

We don't need more random dance clubs and bars at WDW. Vegas, Atlantic City, et al have that covered. What we could use is more nighttime fun experiences for adults. Jellyrolls is great. Adventurer's Club was great. More of that.

Yes, I dimly remember now. It would be pretty out of character for Disney to miss a chance to sell stuff. :)

I wonder if AC would work as a special dinner experience, sort of like a character meal. Pick a suitable restaurant and have the characters move around the tables interacting, and have them put on a "radio show" during dinner. Something like Teatro Zinzanni, if you've ever heard of that.
