I travel weekly for my job and I stay at hotels all the time. I have picked up a few tips that you may like. This can reduce your chances of catching germs and getting sick

1. Take the bedspread off the bed. The bed spread is washed the least and usually just placed back on the bed between guest stays. I know this shounds bad but that's usually the case. Dont sleep with the bedspread on.

2. If your room had glasses supplied, run each glass under hot water for a MINIMUM of 2 minutes each. This will reduce your changes of catching germs. I prefer if the hotels have individually sealed plastic cups

3. Never put ice directly in the ice bin. There should be a plastic bag to line the ice bin with. if there is not, get one from the front desk. The ice bin is rarely washed.

4. If you can, bring some antibacterial wipes and clean the remote control for the tv and the phone handsets. These are rarely cleaned or overlooked often. Clean the toilet flush knob, faucet handles and door knob too.

these are just some things that I have learned and I like to do to make sure i minimize the spread of germs.

Thanks for the reminders!

I read once in these boards, to never use the "glass" glasses (unless sealed) because they are often the last thing wiped down...with the same cloth that was used elsewhere in the room...ewwwwww.
But to put all our minds a little more at ease, our friends who were recently at WDW(same time as us) said that when they got into their room, Housekeeping had just cleaned it. Disinfectant (bleach, even) was *definitely* in the air. My friend was pleased, as she disinfects *everything*.

agnes!

I travel a lot too, and one good tip I have is to wear rubber flip flops instead of slippers. You can wear them in the shower too to protect your feet against planters warts (they hurt) or harsh cleaner residue. Carpets are rarely cleaned, and it makes me feel better protect my feet (not to mention the sheets when you climb in!).
;)

Oh that's just gross about the bedspreads. It never crossed my mind that I was snuggling up with covers that who-knows-who also cuddled up with. Gross!

Hi!

A while ago, I saw one of those "undercover" news segments about hotel room bedspreads, and the stuff that they found on those blankets was disgusting! Tons of germs, blood, other *ahem* body fluids...you get the idea. :earseek: They said that most hotels only wash them once a month or when they need cleaning, so a LOT of people have been on them!

Instead, my family immediately removes the bedspreads and puts them under the bed. We then ask for a clean top sheet placed over the sleeping blanket and tucked in, so it acts like a nice beadspread to hang out on. If we get cold, we just ask for an extra blanket instead of using the nasty bedspread. The hotels are more than willing to accomodate these requests (it seems like a lot of people have seen those reports and ask for the same thing)!

Stay away from those bedspreads! :goodvibes

I just read somwhere the other day about a Marriott that was redecorating to a calmer, beige/white theme including the bedspreads, which will be changed and washed with the sheets. Maybe they are catching on that people are grossed out. You can't hide much on a white bedspread!

Las Vegas I strip the bed and call housekeeping to come and change all sheet including the blanket. Me and the front desk at the Luxor in Vegas had a dispute about this on the phone so I kindly when down to the lobby and asked if someone could change the the sheets and blankets when I got up to the room housekeeping was their and she put fresh everything and replace the linen and pillows. I tipped her $20 dollars.

$20 is worth the peace of mind. When I request this at Disney, Mousekeeping shows up and replaces everything right away and again another $20 tip. I don't want to lay in the previous couples "sweat and *you know*.

Very good tips! Thanks for those.
We won't be going to WDW this year, but have planned some long weekend trips. Those tips will come in handy.

I always bring my clorox wipes to wipe just about everything down. I have friends that laugh at me but it makes me feel better and I can then relax.
