A couple things to ponder. . .

And no TeeJay. . . our own intelligence agencies came out yesterday and said 9 of the 10 people who financed 9/11 were Saudis and the 10h was Pakstani. .

No proof of Saddam being behind it; nothing; that was made up; lies.

Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings, but facts are facts.

And please save the jingoistic pity for the liberals. . I think you know I wouldn't be saying this unless I had my facts nailed down.

After saying for year Saddam was behind 9/11, last night Bush said this was to prevent them from ever being involved in one. . . in the future

And our own FBI says that papers Colin Powell presented to the UN that supposedly showed Hussain was trying buy elements to produce nuclear weapons were forged by a "foreign" country. .

If he believes Saddam has all these weapons of mass destruction and is an immediate threat to use them, why did he give him 48 hours notice of an invation, then do this surgical bombing and let our troops sit their on their hands?

Use your common sense. . either Bush is leaving our troops there as sitting ducks for WMD, or he's been exaggerating the threat . gotta be one or the other. .

The CIA probably floated the Iraq/al-Queda connection before anyone else did. They certainly were ready to pass off the thing about SH trying to buy uranium from Niger quickly enough...and that was fake. They are of dubious use, if not for them SH wouldn't be in power nowadays. Lies? Maybe. But whose?

The 48 hours' notice was a last-ditch effort for SH to leave town. A good move IMO. Common sense says that after all the hullaballoo about having no WMDs, which he just announced yesterday or the day before, pulling them out to use against US troops toot suite would be an inspired sort of dumb. I've not met anyone yet who doesn't think he has any. Blix thinks he does. Is that good enough?

Come on, the war hasn't really even 'started' - just that single surgical strike earlier. Give Saddam a chance to hang himself - he will. Why were his troops seen carrying tons of explosives into the oil fields?? Saddam 'promised' that he won't blow them up. We'll see.

I personally believe Saddam will wait to use his chemical and biological weapons. I don't believe our troops are the sitting ducks that you think they may be. I would think that they took into account the fact Iraq may or may not use those weapons.

Wouldn't this technically be a Debate Board thread?

That said, I think we're only seeing the precursor to the hard core stuff. I've no doubt that he has them.

Saddam's address reaffirmed his support of terror in Israel.

Oh, I'm sure he has some anthrax buried here and there. . he gave it to him when he was at war with Iraq.

And maybe some left-over mustard gas that he used to massacre the Kurds. . 15 years ago, 3 years before Desert Storm; and 3 years before Bush Sr., Rumfeld, and Powell agreed to a cease fire and to trust him to go along with the UN demands. .

The CIA and FBI has said there is no proof of Saddam having any connection to bin Laden or 9/11. .

Bush has gone from the 9/11 thing, to the WMD thing, to "what if" national security, to regime change. . .

And again I ask: if Bush truly believes he has the kind of weapons he's claimed he does, why sit around and give him all this time to use them? If my son or daughter was there I'd be outraged. . and as an American I'm disgusted. . and if I wasn't so sure this has all been a lod of crap, I'd be scared to death for our troops. .

I must say, you're the first person I've talked to that thinks that Saddam doesn't WMD (the large amounts he had in 91 or larger).

Again, why isn't this on the Debate Board?

Actually Willy the war started in 2000 in the form of terrorism. The Gulf War technically never ended if you count that Iraq never lived up to the terms of the cease-fire...but anyway, SH renewed the call to action in 2000.

President Saddam Hussein’s Message to the Urgent Arab Summit Conference, Cairo 21-22/October/2000.

The labour manifested by the Arab nation through the Great Uprising bearing the banner of the people has materialized as a sign indicating the right road and as a stream of light pointing to the nation's potential to be better in more than one Arab country. This stream of light represents the whole Arab nation or points to its potentials which are detained by factors that need not be mentioned to anyone, foremost of which is that which we have referred to in connection with its rulers. The Arab Intifada has come. The Arab masses have filled the streets from the farthest Arab East to the farthest Arab West and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Arab Gulf. In their tremendous rage, ignited by the Intifada of our Arab Palestinian freedom fighters, the fuse which has exploded the revolution, the Arab masses wanted to tell all of those who are hesitant, double dealers and cowards among the rank and file, and even among those who speak with Arab tongues but whose hearts are locked towards the Arabs but open to the enemies of the nation...(he rambles) (snip)

The main issue which should come first among the issues to be discussed thoroughly by the Summit, for he who ignores it will be ignoring the whole Arab nation, is Palestine: the stand towards it, the stand towards its Zionist occupants and how we express the potential and legitimate stand of the nation truthfully, honestly and confidently. (snip)

Iraq's stand in this issue has been obvious for a long time. We reiterate it here now. If he who represents Iraq in any Arab or non-Arab gathering, whether official or popular, ignores the stand of his people in Iraq, he will be like one ignoring the will of this truthful, loyal and striving people, besides ignoring the principles on which the Glorious 17-30 July Revolution was founded after this great people had sacrificed lines and lines of martyrs and wounded before the altar of its march. We do not think that any honourable person among the whole of our Arab nation ignores this stand or denies it. (snip)

On the basis of this, and as an expression of the conscience of the nation and the people, the manifest stand of Iraq is the call and endeavour to liberate Palestine through jihad. For jihad alone is capable of liberating Palestine and the Arab lands occupied by the filthy Jews in their freak Zionist entity. Jihad through fighting is the right description and the firm basis for him who trusts in Allah and endeavours to liberate Palestine with all that supports and facilitates his mission in all its aspects and to the depth of its mobilization. Any other description will remain short of restoring Palestine, the whole of Palestine, releasing al-Quds and its Mosque from captivity and liberating the other occupied Arab lands. Our saying that any other description of jihad save that of fighting the band of evil in Palestine and inflicting defeat upon them, will fall short of the mark as it is but a softened description of any other alternative...<snip>

We, in Iraq, say that the Arabs are capable of following a policywhich will make America turn away from its biasesupport of the Zionist entity at the expense of the Arabs. This policy will be supported by the policy of mobilizing potentials and capabilities and alerting and organizing eagerness on the road of jihad for liberation. It is not the policy of lowering themselves before America and getting along with it. When will that be possible? It will be possible when the Arabs harmonize with themselves and with their principles, when their insistence on liberation becomes manifest and when they meet harm with harm on the doctrine of eye for eye, tooth for tooth and wounds equal for equal. When America chooses as it does now to harm the Arabs through its bias to the Zionist entity, and when the Arabs decide not to secure for America its interests and to neglect its views and stop any cooperation with it in all fields, or in certain fields, America then will change its stand-- and it will change it in a short time. (snip)

The Arabs are the aggrieved party. Their sanctuaries are wronged. They are daily killed at the hands of the Zionists. He who wants their friendship, should not take sides with their enemy to strengthen him against them. If he does so, he deserves to be confronted by the potentials of the Arabs, of which Allah has given them plenty and has also given them great high-mindedness and great trust in their people. If America resorts to arms besides Zionism, we must raise arms against it while we are on our land. An aggrieved party cannot be defeated while on his own land and amongst his own people. Great Allah will help him and America will be defeated. And before it announces its defeat, those in charge of its affairs will force their people to be separated from the Zionist entity. (snip)

He has a connection to every Muslim terrorist event that has happened since then, in the exact same manner as the Coumbian drug lords have to the crack house somewhere in every urban setting. It is his product, it is his sociopolitical movement. NY and DC may not have his particular fingerprints on them, but don't ever try to sell the idea that he's not involved in it up to his neck.

Probably still more disgusted by America though, aren't you.

Just my opinion here. This is not the time to start calling people names. Disagreeing is fine, but at a time where people should be supporting our troops and eachother, we should not start deviding and conquering. YOu do not have to agree with anything that is going on. That is the beauty of this country. You do not have to like the President, I want to see an Iraqi citizen try that.

To be honest, I do not care what anyone says on this board. In my heart I feel we are doing the right thing. I truely believe Saddam has WMD and so doesn't most people. BUT...I would think that right now, out of respect for everyone who has a loved one over there we can try to be respectful.

If I had a son, husband or loved one there, and heard they are sitting duck, and our President was lying and such at this moment I would not come back here.

I am not saying we don't have the right to say so, because that is one of the fundemental rights we have, but please try and remember everyone involved here.

At this time, instead of arguing we need to come together and support those giving so much. History has more than proven that Saddam is a horrible man who not only tortures his own citizens, but us a threat to the world.

Hugs to all

Willy honey you know I love ya.........But, if Iraq does not have chemical & biological weapons, how did this happen?

Iraqi aircraft shelled Halabja with chemical weapons on 16 March 1988, in an attack which left 5,000 dead and 7,000 injured or with long-term illnesses.

And that was against his own people. Why hasn't he used them yet? Who knows what Saddam Hussein has in mind.

As I was watching CNN this morning and witnessed the calls of "bunker, bunker, bunker !!!" where our troops would rush to put on kevlar suits and gas masks, I realized that our military don't just think Iraq "might" use chemical weapons, they feel is a very real possibility.

God Bless them and keep them safe.

Linda

Like everyone else I had hoped this day would never come. Inside I had hoped he would comply or go into exile.

Why would anyone believe a word he says. He has never spoke a word of truth in his life.

Whether he has WMD or not, which I believe he does and will try to use them. The people of Iraq have lived in fear long enough. Like the the rest of the world all they want is freedom.

I feel as the week goes on more and more Iraq soldiers will give up. All these people want is to go home with their families and loved ones. We as a country have never known what it's like not to be able to speak freely, that one wrong word could put our family in danger.

Yes I am very sad that this day has come. I do know that for the people of Iraq their day of liberation will soon be a hand and with it will come the horrors of life under Saddam rule.

We knock our President, but he's doing what in his heart he feel is right. We need to stand tall beside him and our troops and know the truth will always come out. If for some reason he has lied to the American People (which I believe he hasn't) he will have to answer for those lies. Not only to Americans but to the whole world.

Well it's Thursday morning and Hussein has used the scud missiles he "didn't have" HE is the liar.

"Enjoy your war!!! " - Wow THAT'S offensive.

People are free to disagree with this war and to state their disagreement but to imply that those of us who feel it is justified are enjoying the war is downright disrespectful and other words I can't use on the DIS.

I think the time for policy debate is over and it is time to start supporting our troops. Husbands, wives, sons and daughters are fighting for YOUR freedoms and even if you disagree with policy you need to respect their sacrifices.

I avoided this thread last night and I am glad I did. :(

I don't believe our president is a liar. What does he get out of this by lying? Yeah he's going to put thousands and thousands of our troops in danger because of a lie.

I thought I heard it all, I really did.

Enjoy the war? That is just sick. I spent most of the night crying. :(

Glo that was a wonderful post.

I seriously doubt that Saddam would use his WMD, at least in the beginning of the war. He's not stupid. To do so would cause him to lose the sympathy of the other countries that are not backing us.

The Democrats are heading the way of the Whigs. . . worthless and soiling themselves in public at every opportunity. .

Even as a "worthless and soiled" Democrat I will stand behind my president on this issue. Did I want war? No. But I have to believe that there are things we don't know about what is going on over there and that he is acting in our best interest.

Lauri, I wish everyone on both sides would think that way.

Please, remember to be respectful. No one likes war. No one wants anyone to die, and to inisnuate otherwise is not fair to anyone.

Come on guys. We all know Willy. I'm sure he didn't mean that like it sounded.

This war will be stressful on all of us. We will say things in anger, sadness, or frustration. We need to give each other some slack.

WARNING: MAJOR VENT below:

I am so tired of debating who is saying what, and does he have WMD, and should we be at war. I find it difficult to swallow that so many Americans who cannot possibly know the whole story (due to security reasons) can sit and make judgments one way or the other. They really have no idea what is going on and how much is involved.

I am not pro or anti war - I just believe in supporting the President and our troops. What we need to do will be done in order to remove a very real threat.

And to the question of "if he has these WMD, why hasn't he used them yet?" I can only say this - it's not as simple as that. We are an extremely powerful country and he knows that we could turn Iraq into a parking lot if we chose to do so. Just because he hasn't used them yet does not mean that they do not exist.

Sorry for the vent - hope I didn't offend anyone.

The reason we are doing this is because of 12 years of non-compliance with UN orders. Saddam DOES have WMD,he hasn't proven that he has gotten rid of them as he was directed to by the UN. He IS behind terrorist activities in his OWN country.

It's time he was taken out, no wait....It's time he was killed!

9/11 is not the reason we are doing this.......The reason is because of 12 years of lies and deception by Saddam.

Enough is enough with this guy...Now it's our turn.
