DH and I headed to WDW on Thurs. 1/16. After checking in at Wilderness Lodge we headed over to MK. Lunch was at Columbia Harbour House. We had only eaten there previously on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. I had the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich (tuna sandwich) and DH had the Captain's Special - (Fried Chicken Strips and Fish.) The bread for the tuna sandwich was a type of wheat and sunflower bread, very good and a nice surprise because plain 'ol white bread wouldn't have been my first choice. DH said the chicken and fish were hot and tasty. Nice and quiet dining upstairs.
Dinner was at Artist Point. We had not eaten here in about 3 years. Our server was Jack and he was very friendly and helpful. I started with the Field Greens with Goat Cheese Toast and Balsamic Chive Dressing. Perfect amount of dressing. The goat cheese was very mild, close to cream cheese. I would have liked a bit stronger cheese, but still good. DH tried the rabbit sausage for his appetizer. He ate every bite and even shared a bit with me. Mild but very tasty. For entrees DH had the buffalo, cooked perfectly medium. He tried the side of sweet potatoes but didn't care for them. (This is no shock.
) I had the Pan-seared Pork Chop on Tillamook Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Maytag Crust. Very good pork chop, nice size. DH had to help me finish. I liked the cheddar mac and cheese but the bits of crunchy Maytag on the top was the best! The pasta was the little penne type instead of elbow mac. We split the berry cobbler for out dessert. There was plenty to share. But being from the south, I have to say this was like no other cobbler that I have ever seen. DH and I figured it was like a cross between a blueberry pancake and a blueberry muffin on the bottom with more blueberries and then fresh berries and ice cream on top. Very tasty nonetheless. Also, the restaurant was not very busy at all for our 7pm PS. DH had coffee and it must have been real because there was one or two coffee grounds that slipped in. Nice to know it wasn't the liquid concentrate stuff.
Fri 1/17- Had breakfast bars in the room. Lunch was at Beaches and Cream. DH had a chocolate shake and a hot dog with chili and cheese which came with fries. I had the single cheeseburger with fries and a pink lemonade. Everything was good and tasty. I wouldn't say is was the best burger I have ever had, but certainly better than most counter service offerings. We arrived at noon and there were plenty of tables, but by the time we left it was very crowded.
Dinner was at Rose and Crown. I was very cold Fri night and we were seated inside. I had a pint of Boddingtons and DH had a Half and Half. Our server was Sarah and she was very friendly and funny. I started with the Mushroom Medley - Fresh wild and domestic mushrooms, cooked with garlic, shallots, and cream, topped with a puffed pastry. Very good and creamy and a bit filling. DH had the House Seasonal Salad with walnut-stilton cheese dressing. He liked it but said it was a "salad with bleu cheese dressing." A man of so many words. I had the English pie sampler and DH had the Bangers and Mash. I liked the cottage pie the best, the pork pie was pretty good and the chicken and leek the least favorite. It was a little bland. DH cleaned his plate so he must have enjoyed his meal. No room for dessert.
Because of the weather, we headed back to the room to grab a book and sit by the fireplace at the lodge. When we returned, there were numerous messages on DH's cell phone from the Navy Reserves. Long story short, we had to leave the next morning for home and DH and I are headed to Jacksonville later today to do all the paperwork before he leaves for the Middle East. The manager at the Lodge was very nice (as I was bawling at the front desk explaining why we had to leave early.) About a half hour later, we received some apple pie, cherry cobbler and ice cream at our room from the manager. That was very sweet.
So unfortunately we didn't make it to Citricos and O'hana's character breakfast as planned, but we did enjoy our quick 2 day stay. Any questions I'll answer this morning or when I return.
