Hubby and I are going on the March 5 Magic Eastern cruise (one week, one week!!!) with a couple of our friends. After a planning meeting tonight, they had a couple of questions that I couldn't answer:
1. They've been on other cruises where there were trivia contests set up (not like the big show, but in the bars, etc) and were wondering if the Magic had anything like that.
2. Has anyone rented a cab for the day on St. Thomas, if so, how much is the general going price?
3. Do cell phones work well while in port at Port Canaveral? We'll be juggling setting up Palo's reservations with trying to get a Flounders slot for our friend's child.

Our cells did work, while we were on the balcony of our cabin.

If you are juggling reservations, the best thing you can do is have a list of times and alternates incase you can't reach the other party. That way whoever is making the reservations can go ahead and do it with no problems, rather than missing out.

I recommend going as early as possible, perhaps even upon boarding at noon (get to port early if possible) to make your Palo and Flounders reservations- Flounders, if you get there early enough, will most likely be able to accommodate your top 3 reserved times ( you can call for more during week)...As for Palo, make sure you have a main and alternate reservation in mind...Again, if you get there early enough to make res, you should have no problem

With regards to renting a cab, the prices tend to be a if I recall not bad....it really depends though...Do you want a cab to take you sightseeing or just back and forth to shopping area?

A good cellphone will work flawlessly at the port...

Your cell phone will work from the ship while in PC, you may loose service if your walking around the hallways or something.

They do have a trivia game on board, I think its called Who wants to be a mouseketer sp??? When we were waiting to board the couple in front of us had a won a free cruise playing. They said that it must have been awhile since anyone had one, because they were giving him hints to the answers so they would win!!!

There was a Disney trivia contest on board. No prizes. We were on the packed New Years Eve cruise, and were shocked that we were among just 4 families to show up at the Trivia contest.

Hi, there were several small trivia contests in the bars as well. 60s night, 70's and 80's. They were SO much fun. They would play some notes of each song, and your group would have a paper to fill in the title, as well as the singer, and you get one point for each right answer. We had so much fun doing these small contests! It got as all thinking about the past and laughing it up!!

Enjoy your cruise :sunny: :cool1:

We knew about Who Wants To Be A Mousketeer (this will be our second DCL cruise) but not about other smaller contests that you could easily get into. Thank you Mommasita for letting me know about the small ones in the bars, that's more the thing we're looking for!

We intend to get the cab for sightseeing rather than just going shopping and so that we can visit Virgin Islands National Park on our own.

On last month's Wonder there was a match your mate type of game show--not knowing your mate, dont know how trivial that might seem to you. Also the Disney trivia, which we did not go to, so I can't compare how much that has been watered down since they got rid of the old Who Wants To Be A Mouseketeer as a show in the Walt Disney theater.

If the Cab on St. Thomas is just to and from a desintation, or even a couple destinations, should not be a problem, but on both of our previous st. thomas stops, we have gone to one destination in larger cabs that were taking a dozen or so,and it was very easy to return.
