The bad doesn't distort the image quality because the lens is actually pointed out through the bag opening. One of the posters on this site has some instructions on his homepage that I used. http://willcad.org/image_cameraponcho.html
I used the kind of bag that has a zipper type closure and just closed it tight around the end of the lens. Its not water PROOF but very water resistant. I also had a protective UV filter on the lens. I used my 28-135mm IS in the bag for this series of shots.
