A couple of questions about Disneyland rides

Hello all!

I'm planning my first trip to Disneyland for June or July of this year! Being a huge Disney fan, I am very excited to go to the "original" theme park. However, I have a couple of questions. I'm hoping you guys can help me out with them.

1. Are there many drops on the Matterhorn? How do the drops compare to those on Splash Mountain?
2. How do some of the rides at Disneyland compare to those at Disney World (for example: Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, etc.)?

:tinker:Many thanks in advance!

Hi! Welcome! :wave2:

The Matterhorn doesn't really have drops. Not big ones, just sort of small ups and downs and fast corners. Splash Mountain has one big long one at the end. Matterhorn has nothing like that.

I haven't been to WDW so can't answer that.

I have read that WDW's Space is more like the Matterhorn than DLR's Space. Disneyland's Space has side-by-side seating and is very smooth, unlike what I've heard about WDW's version.

WDW v.s. DLR

Big Thunder-Basically the same.
Space Mountain-as previously posted-different seating-ride about the same. Though I seem to like DLR one better.

Other rides-
Splash-same
Pirates-WDW is okay. Theming, etc. at DLR better.
Haunted Mansion-some parts are the same, WDW has some different rooms, etc. Fun thing is to see how many differences you can spot.
Tower of Terror-Original at DHS-car (elevator)moves forward in a curving line through some effects. One at DCA just goes straight for the thrills.
Small World Can't beat the grandeur of the original at DLR (though currently closed for update.)

Regarding Matterhorn-I find it pretty bumpy and rough. It helps if you have 2 passengers in one seat. Stops you from sliding around too much. :)

Disneydaz (or anyone who knows) -

Do you know when It's A Small World will be back up?

It's a Small World re-opens to the general public on Feb 6th with an AP preview on Feb 5th. I'm looking forward to seeing all the changes and Disney Characters added to it.

Splash Mountain builds up to this one gigantor drop at the end (it's not that bad, really), but Matterhorn is just up and down and up and down. Well not entirely.

The general consensus, it seems, even between WDW longtimers and DLR ones is that DL Space Mountain wipes the floor with MK SM. (Sorry I had to say it). They were more comparable before Disneyland's renovation, but it's back, better, and much more exciting. That is to say, MK's doesn't totally suck (some people will say that). I rode MK's in '07 and DL's in '06 and while DL's is indeed better, MK's not bad, but outdated.

I agree with Daz on BTMRR (BIg Thunder). It's the same. I did it at WDW in Dec. '07 and it was great! We rode it several times (with minimal wait too!).

Okay - WDW and DL vet, but drop weenie here - have done WDW Splash, but never DL Splash. WDW Splash has 3.5 drops - does ours have that many? You get the first one - a weenie to keep things moving, the second, the third - a down and up like Mullholland Madness to get you into the Laughing Place, and then the biggie. They are positioned to keep the log momentum going. Is ours the same? Seating in WDW is 2 across like our Space. I much prefer that option to bury my head into my seatmate on the big one.....:rotfl2:

I agree that Matterhorn is much more like SM WDW. 2 tracks that run parallel and then split to finally come down and queue on opposite sides of the attraction. No drops, just a bump here and there. One giant lift hill to send you slolleming downward. (I cannot spell that ski term for the life of me!!)

Pirates has 2 smaller drops here, unlike the 1 large drop into the main pirate ship/fort room in WDW. We have cool caverns you have to go through to get you under the train tracks and into the ride building - since it was added in the sixties. You ride back uphill in your boat, instead of getting off and taking the escalator up like in WDW. Space Mountain - you always have to walk up that constantly dead escalator here!!!
