A Couple DAAR Questions

My DGF and I will be traveling to WDW in a little over 3 months...this time, we cannot afford our favorite resort, AKL, so we will be staying at DAAR (not the suites). For a couple who likes to stay up late and possibly get a bite to eat at night after the parks have already closed, what are the options like?

Also, how is the transportation there? Do the buses stop at other resorts like the MK Deluxe buses?

Sorry, I had to look up DAAR; most people refer to it as AoA, even though under the abbreviations they do list it as DAAR. Learn something new.

AoA does not share buses with any other resorts.

You could take a bus over to DTD, since many of those places are open later, and the DTD buses run until about 2 am. I am not sure you will see them take food orders past 10pm/11pm though.

You can also use DTD as a last resort to go to and from a resort, but it is not as reliable.

Atlantic Dance Hall stays open late, but it doesn't offer food.

There is also what used to be called Tubbi's Buffeteria at the Dolphin when I stayed there; it is now called Picabu Buffeteria. They serve food until 1 am; and you can grab and go 24 hours a day. They had some great food the year I was there. I would check out their menu on this site or on allearsnet.

There are no buses at any resort that go between resorts. Poly, GF, and CR have the monorail that go between the three, and BW, YC/BC, and Swan/Dolphin have the boat between them. But that's the extent of it.

I'm not sure what the options are at AoA but if it's anything like the other resorts, there's not much. We got pizza once from the food court but I don't believe it was much after park closing. Right around then. We are also a younger couple but have found Disney lacks in the late night department. DTD is a good suggestion, and the Boardwalk might provide some entertainment. ESPN Club at the Boardwalk may also be open later, and they have good food as well.

I think what the OP meant was do busses from AoA pick up other resorts before going to the parks. At WL they often share with FW. AoA doesn't share busses and in fact because POP is right across Crescent Lake, you can use the POP bus and then walk over (this works well if you're at the park and see the AoA bus just pulling away).

Have you looked at travelocity or orbitz for additional discounts for AKL? I was able to book WL on the late summer discount PLUS I got another 15% off from travelocity AND 5.5% back from ebates. This saved quite a bundle and we were able to switch from AoA to WL. Just something you may want to look into. BTW, at first it showed my dates as unavailable, then I put in earlier dates that were available and once I was able to view the rooms, put in my real dates and *poof* the rooms were actually available.

You are right... I was reading too fast. Sorry OP! :thumbsup2

Art of Animation (AoA) has its own buses. They don't shared with any other resort. AoA has a food court, which I think (but don't quote me) is open until midnight. Pop Century a short walk across the bridge also has a food court.

Oops sorry! I'd never abbreviated AoA before!

Thanks for the information everyone! Back when we could afford AKL was when we were CMs here in NYC...now that we no longer get that 50% discount on hotels, it's impossible to afford the Deluxes on our budget. However, we are looking into some of the discount options, so maybe we can go back to our home of Jambo House.

If the food court is open until midnight, that would be amazing! And I love a resort that has its own bus system. :) Maybe it's time to try something new anyway! It could be an adventure!

THANKS EVERYONE!

Unless something has changed recently, the Swan/Dolphin, YC/BC, and BW shared some park buses.

Just got back from AoA last night. Yes, the food court is open until midnight, but I'm not at all sure that you can get anything hot or made up for you. It would probably be premade stuff in the fridges, but I could be wrong.
You could always head over to the S/D area. Picabu is wonderful. You could take a cab back to AoA afterward...should be around $10 or so, they are very close to each other. Or just head to DTD.
