hubby is thinking of getting a new telelscope...i read you need at least 8 aperture and equatorial mount due to following the object's path(ie not dobsonian... think that is right) to take pictures of much except the moon and some planets but i am wondering if anyone knows anything else about the subject and if the deep space stuff would be grey as in the telescope eyepiece or in color ie would the camera pick up the colors that are to faint for your eye to see...if not i don't really care about the deep space stuff then and he can get a bigger aperture and not worry about the mount so much. i've seen color pictures of galaxies etc but not sure what they were taken with and if they were from space or giant observatory type scopes
thanks

I don't know much about it but I do know that most of the deep space photos with the brilliant color have artificial color added, to help shows details that'd otherwise be difficult or impossible to see.

One of these days, I'd like to pick up a decent telescope with a T-mount and get an adapter for my camera... but I have no idea when I'll get around to that. No time soon, I think.

yes you do need a motorized mount which is why you can't use the dobsonian ones..you have to turn those by hand so can't really track with them although you can take moon etc and they cost less due to not having the motor ( 8 aperture with motor mount for same price as 12 aperture dodsonian)...
that makes sense about the added color which i guess i could "cheat" and do as well..
thinking this might be husband's "camera" ie the hobby that costs the proverbial arm and leg but i can't complain now can i. at least not if i want a lens, a flash etc etc etc
:rotfl:
