Both of my DSs will be marching through Magic Kingdom next week with the high school band. We had a meeting tonight and the band director said a few neat things I never knew. First he said that while the band waits for the parade, they are behind the scenes with all the CMs. It is dark and practically no Disney magic where you wait until.....these huge doors open and all the bright lights and magic suddenly appear. He also said that he had to sign a paper that stated that no one would share any Disney secrets they saw while waiting backstage.

It sounds SO cool!! I can't wait to see them!

Thats so exciting. I hope all of you have a wonderful time. Your DSs will never forget this experience.

My band marched in the MSEP one night my freshman year. I will say what we saw "behind the scenes" is kind of a let down, but I still love WDW! :) We never signed any paper though, so technically I could blab all I want..... ;) j/k

It is an AWESOME experience to have all those people staring and clapping for you down Main Street. :goodvibes

Our kids marched down Main Street this past April 1st. It was truly the highlight of all of my many trips to the Magic Kingdom. I could not have been prouder. It was sort of a surprise parade as it wasn't listed on the regular program. Three high school marching bands just "appeared" on Main Street starting at 10AM and marched their way up Main Street, around the hub, and back offstage over by Splash Mountain. The parade lasted 10 minutes. I got the whole thing on videotape (and made over 100 copies of the DVD for the rest of the band parents who weren't able to be there to see it in person).

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

Towncrier: That is a good idea! My band is marching in February in the MK and my parents won't be able to make it (they tried, but they can't). Maybe I can talk to one of the many band parents that will be there and see if I can have them film it and get a copy of the tape for my parents. :cool1:

My high school band marched in WDW way back in 1993 and I have to agree! :) Where we were "behind the scenes" wasn't terribly thrilling. I did see Pluto walking around with his head off... but really, that's it. A bunch of floats lined up. :confused3

And back in 1993 we didn't have to sign anything! :teeth:

But it was a BLAST!!!! Your DSs will remember it forever. :)

When my band marched at WDW, it was really interesting to see what it looked like "backstage". It really is un-magical! But once you get out there and realize you have become part of the magic, you forget that. When we went, someone took pictures from the bus backstage before the CM came to brief us on the rules (which included absolutely no cameras!). He actually confiscated her camera and removed the film, processed the pictures and gave her back a new roll along with all her pictures that did not include the behind the scenes stuff. We knew they were serious then!!
