Okay. So I got accepted today! (Whee!) But...I got Merch. I am more than happy to get accepted...but...I didn't apply for merch nor was I asked any questions about it. Last year I didn't have QSFb on my list, asked me if I would do it, and I got accepted into that. And the more I talk to people, the more weirds I get for this happening. Does anyone know of this happening before?:confused3

College and International Program applicants are put into roles based on the expressed labour needs of the areas, as well as their Web-Based and Personal Interviews.

As a result, things like this sometimes happen. Particularly right now, since WDW Area Labour Needs are just plain weird property-wide (some areas want absolutely no New Hires, some want us to reopen the Flood Gates), I'm not all that surprised.

I have no work experience in merchandise. This came as a complete surprise especially since everyone who has gotten accepted into the program so far that I know of have gotten their first choice.

Merchandise isn't that hard once you get the hang of it. For the vast majority of areas, you're either Stocking or working the Register, and it's all fairly self-intuitive. Some areas have specific duties that need getting used to, but even that's fairly easy.

I'm trained in both Food & Beverage and Merchandise (statused F&B) and I've never had problems moving between the two.

But if you have questions about your offered role, you're more than free to contact your Disney College Program Recruiter for more information. Please refer to the paperwork you received for more information.

well congrats on getting accepted! maybe you should email your recruiter and just ask why you were placed in merchandise

I've heard of it happening before, usually involving QSFB. People don't put it down, but they end up getting it.

Are you still going to accept the CP? It doesn't hurt to e-mail, so it was a good thing you did. That way maybe if it was an accident they can fix it early, you never know. At the very least they can give you a reason why you were put in merch hopefully!

Oh yeah! I already accepted it because it's disney world. I really don't care where I go I just want to know what happened. lol

I know, this is my second program! I'm actually excited to be doing Spring Advantage this year!
And thank you!

There's absolutely no way that you could be placed in QSF&B if you did not put it down. I'm friends with many people that work with the CP and they are not allowed to. If you are placed in an area that you did not select, then you need to call your recruiter immediately. Always have a copy of the final form you submit showing what you did have selected for possible roles. They cannot place you in a role you did not pick as wanting to be placed. in.
I'm sorry to sound rude, but if someone is saying they didn't select a role, and then got 'forced' into it, that is a lie. They did select it, or the interviewer confirmed that it was ok to put them down for that role. If you question you saying that you DIDN'T want put into a role over the phone, they can pull up the recorded intererview and go over it with you.
Disney Casting is very strict to the recruiters about not letting potential CP's get put into roles they did not select.

Update: Thankful, I got a hold of a recruiter and they were able to change my role. Linda, the amazing recruiter who fixed this, said that they NEVER do this. So please do not go calling them if you are dissatisified with your role. Keep in mind that I was placed in Merch without applying for it and without being interviewed for it.
But I was able to be placed in the attractions and I have to thank the amazing Disney Recruiting team for fixing this and making a dream come true.
