A CL no more

Just a note for all of my Dis friends. I have decided to leave the Community Leader program this morning. My reasons are many, most notably the problems within the CL program itself. I won't get into the details here, but if you see me without that CL_ in front of my title, I just want you to know I was not banned, I chose to leave. I was a CL for nearly two years and there actually was a time when we were useful. I don't see a purpose to having CLs anymore. JMO

We all have to make decisions sometimes that others may not understand. Kudos for doing what you have to do!

I completely understand your position. The CL program is not what it was in the past. More CL's use the title for a status symbol, popular rooms and using it for celebrity status. Those CL's should be ashamed of themselves for that. But since the CL program is not monitored and they continue to abuse it, it only makes the really good CL's look bad. You were a great CL, not just saying that as a friend. You actually did your best to help new people and I can remember all the times you gifted new people just to show them how VMK is special and special to you.

Well we lost another CL, only to probably get another who wants to be a celebrity.

I completely understand why you're leaving the CL program. Over the past year it's been a competition to be more popular than the other CLs.
I just wish that the program hadn't lost their way.
It used to be that they helped out the other players, now some of them are just mean.

Sorry to hear this, you were "one of the good ones," but we must all make the choice that sit right within us. Hopefully you were able to explain to someone on the vmk side the reasons for your decision so that they may look at them as a way to make improvements.

This is truly sad to hear, losing CL's like you is a great loss.

I am sure you will still be helping players with or without the "CL" title.

I hope others will realize they too can make a positive difference in VMK by being kind and helping others whether they are a "CL" or not. It's our virtual community, let's work together to make it a great place to play!

Thank you, everyone. It was a really difficult decision to make, one that I stewed over for months before actually sending the request to leave the program.
Yes, I will continue to help those who need help. I truly hope vmk revamps the CL program sometime in the future so that those who are only in it for the title are removed, and those who are sincerely helping others are rewarded.

Awww hon, I'm just kidding. I'm going to miss seeing your title. I've gotten
so used to you being a CL. I feel lucky that the CLs I've known since the
program began have been an asset to the program and NOT used as a
status symbol. I don't know which CL's do that, but I will probably try to
distance myself to them as much as possible.

I think part of the problem is that those CL's are fueling the fire with that
celebrity status. I've had to repeat myself three times in my room to a
player to assure him that "I'm a regular player". That my purpose as a CL
was to answer questions in VMK. He didn't quite "get it" until maybe the
third time I repeated it.

I know the CL program is flawed. But we don't get tested by staff (that I
know about), and we didn't get a list of procedures that we should follow
being a CL. I think we need some sort of direction.

Maybe if the program gets overhauled we'll weed out the egos and those who
abuse their status.

I don't think there really needs to be a test, just some direction and someone to oversee the CLs. As of now, there is none of that. VMK_Babs (or was she HOST_Babs?) used to be in charge of the CL program, but I've no idea who does anything with them now.

It is always a pity when one of the great CLs gives up the title. I have thought about giving mine up for a while now, but decided to stick around and see if I can get any changes made from within. Not having much luck, but going to continue and try for a while longer. In any case it will still be great to see you walk into a room.

I am sorry to hear that you are leaving. I have only had a few trades with you from here on the dis boards and don't know you very well in the game but it sounds like you were really one of the good leaders. I have had some pretty bad experiences with other CL's that I agree vmk needs to make some changes in the program. It seems alot of them are out to only use the status of CL to make their game better not to help the new people and those that need help. Sorry to see another good leader lost, hopefully whoever the replacement is that they choose will be just as good as you were. Thanks for all the good work you did !! now ppl just become a CL to be popular and well known... and get their picture taken with. although sometimes we need to ask them questions but they don't know because they are only players just like you.

Again, thanks for all the well-wishes. Out? I know how you feel. I've been struggling with this decision for quite some time, all in the hopes things would improve. I will continue as I always have in trying to help newbies, but now I won't have to be in demand so much, and that will be a welcome relief.
