Im in the midst of a Food & Wine trip report here that is taking me entirely too long to finish. But I had the opportunity to go for a long weekend in December and cant resist telling you about that trip now since the Christmas spirit is moving me.
This trip includes the very Christmasy Wilderness Lodge, Marty Sklar, the DIS Toy Story Mania party and other DIS meets galore. This TR will be long on pictures and short on commentary hope you enjoy a Christmas quickie!
So this trip started out as all of my trips do. Me packing at the very last minute. Even more so this trip. It was 11pm, my flight was at 7am and I hadnt packed a stitch.
But somehow I pulled it off and after an uneventful flight where the pilot let a couple of kids do the opening announcement (too cute!) I was in Orlando. Is it wrong that the Orlando airport is starting to feel like home? How about that I am starting to recognize Magical Express personnel? Sign of a problem?
It was raining pretty hard by the time I was on the ME bus but I was in Disney and not at work! The driver was very nice and was trying to share some suggestions (fast pass, mugs etc.) but his accent was so thick I dont know if anyone could follow him. Order of drop-offs was Poly, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary. Im never the first to be dropped off but somehow generally the first to be picked up on the reverse trip.
It was nice to see the Poly and GF; Id see the lobbies later in my monorail resort tour.
Finally the much awaited and anticipated Wilderness Lodge. Quick confession- I had tried to switch my reservation to the Beach Club but it was booked. I got over it quickly and was excited to try a new Disney resort and couldnt imagine a better time of year to try the Lodge!

The lobby is very impressive. This may be blasphemy but I think I preferred the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a Christmas feel but dont get me wrong. I was very delighted to be there and awed.
I checked in to find that my room was not ready. This was the first time in my last five trips that my room wasnt ready. It was also the first time I wasnt able to get a king size bed. Sounds like they are even harder to come by than normal at WL. I was, however, upgraded to a woods view. Stay tuned to see how cool that upgrade turned out to be!
So I checked my carry-on bag in with the valet and went over to Roaring Forks for lunch. Meh. Its a fast-food food court with limited options. I kept trying to decide whether I wanted to brave the rain and hit the parks and ultimately decided Id rather curl up in the lobby so that is what I did. I explored the different levels and found a nice little alcove with some leather chairs overlooking the lobby.
It was hard to pay attention to my book with a view like this!
I love the theming a wilderness Christmas!!
Contd next post: more lobby pictures if you can stand it!
