Is anyone going to the A Christmas Carol train in Chicago this morning? My family is heading down to Union Station this morning to check it out around 9am. Just wondering if we'd run into any fellow DISers.

Too far away for me to be there but I'm looking forward to your report. :cool1:

I wanted to but I probably won't make it.

Have a good time! Give us a trip report when you get back!

We saw it in Denver last month. I'm curious to see what you thought of it.

So we arrived at the train around 9:15 and waited about 30 minutes before we could go on. I was talking to some of the cast members (I'm assuming they're Disney employees) and they said the wait times yesterday were around 90 minutes and they had around 5,000 people visit. They were surprised that many people showed up on a Friday and they were expecting more people today. It was my wife and DS9, DD6 and DD4 and I. They did have carolers and TV screens along the waiting line to help pass the time as well as fans and coolers of drinking water.

The first car had the costumes, pictures how they "aged" the actors, and original handwritten pages from Charles Dickens that were on loan from a museum in London. The next car had concept art which we all thought was amazing all shown on digital TV screens that were framed like art. The colors and details were vivid and like nothing I've seen before. The kids really liked them. The third car had video showing how the film was made using 3D computer animation. It showed how they went from stick figures to "blob" people, and gradually added human details to the final pictures. It was interesting. The next car demonstrated how they put suits on the actors with reflecting balls (not sure what they're really called) to digitally capture their movements in order to convert them to digital animation. The following car had scale models of Big Ben (about 4 feet tall), a horse and carriage, Scrooge's House and the Scrooge's Office that were incredibly detailed. The next cars were set up to allow you to take a picture of your face and then morph it into one of the characters. The last car is a fire place and a table of food where you could take your picture, like the one on the disunplugged blog. That was it for the train. It took us about 30 minutes to go through because we looked at everything. We thought it was pretty neat and we were glad we took the time to do it. The also showed a 10-15 minute movie with a finished segment of the movie in 3D. The 3D snow was very realistic! Before the show started the emcee said that Beauty and the Beast was going to be re-released next year in 3D in the theaters. He also said Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were going to be released along with or around the release of Toy Story 3.

We took a bunch of pictures but haven't had a chance to look at them yet so it will be interesting to see if they turned out. If you go I'd suggest getting there early so you don't have to wait in line too long, kind of like at WDW! :) That's my short review.

I should also mention that now we do plan on seeing it because the movie looks like it will be better than the technology used in Polar Express by far.

magchavez......we'll probably be seeing it opening weekend when we're visiting my parents in Highlands Ranch that weekend.

Thanks for the review alexb! Sounds great.
