A Chrismas day wedding?!

I never even thought of how do you get people to work on Christmas?:confused3

A lot of people work on Christmas - including those just mentioned. If they didn't want to do the wedding, they would have said no. The bride and groom aren't forcing them - just as I assume they aren't forcing their guests to attend.

LOTS of us work on the holidays.

I would go to a Christmas wedding...I think it'd be beautiful. Of course, I am one that thinks that weddings should be the one thing that everyone in the family should not get a say in. It's the bride and groom's day, and if it ends up being a few special guests, then it'll be small, intimate, and beautiful.:goodvibes

wow- you take down your decorations and tree on Christmas day??? I take it down on New Years day and that is even to early for my family!!

My FIL used to say "There's nothing more OVER than Christmas". I've been known to take the tree out to the curb on 12/26!

I'm not into dragging out a holiday into the next year.. new year, new start, no more Christmas.

I would decline this invite. My extended family always gets together on Christmas day at 2pm. We have done this forever, going on 4th and 5th generations now, and thats the way we plan to keep on doing it. It makes it easier for those who gain in laws to know we always have our holiday on the 25th. Not to mention, its almost always at my family's home. So no, I wouldn't go to a wedding on Christmas day.

Pastors would "work" on Christmas in an emergency - consoling a family after a death in their congregation, perhaps. Custodians wouldn't be working - most church facilities close after Christmas Eve services through the holiday. Caterers - I'm not aware of many of those who routinely work on Christmas Day, maybe servers in restaurants, but not caterers.

My friends in the catering business make the most money during the holidays! They work Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, Passover Seders...if they didn't work the holidays, they wouldn't be able to pay their bills! It's part of the business.

I would attend if they were family I normally spent Christmas with anyway.

Are kids invited? Kind of hard to find a babysitter on Christmas day if they are not.

Also hard to find a babysitter on New Year's Eve. I know a few couples who picked New Year's Eve & didn't want children attending. Not everyone they wanted to attend did/could because people couldn't get babysitters.

What do you do?

I cant think of many-except nurses, policemen and firemen. Usually there is only one drugstore open here and no restaurants or grocery stores.

There are a lot more than one would think. Just take nurses for example. Yes they work patient care at the hospitals. But in order for them to do their job, other hospital staff have to be there. ER workers, Admissions, Food Services, Health Information, IT, Radiology, Lab, EVS, Plant Ops, Security.....the list can go on. Although most departments would be bare bones, there still would need to be coverage.

My DH is an IT guy and has worked every Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years etc for the past 5 years. Lots of people work Christmas.

Railroad workers, airport workers- places don't shut down for the holiday. I had to work my first 10 Thanksgivings, Christmas's and New Years Eves and New Years days - onlyh the senior people get to take off- now I take them all off every year and let the new junior people work them!
Restaurants around here are open because plenty of people eat out on the holidays. Bagel stores are open up until noon on the holidays to for people to get their breakfast.
Firemen here stay home until the scanner goes off for an ambulance or a fire then they all drive tothe firehouse, hop in the truck and go so at least they can spend some time with their families when there are no calls. Its all volunteer!

The churches I have attended aren't closed on Christmas. They have services that day too. And since they already open the building, why would they have a problem with a wedding ceremony that afternoon?

I'd attend a Christmas wedding if it were close family or I didn't have to travel far. I love weddings & the idea of a Christmas wedding just sounds so beautiful!

Unless it was my child or my grandchild, absolutely not..

Just who do they think is going to spend Christmas day at their wedding - other than very, very close family members (as in "immediate" family)? :confused3

If it was a co-worker or something- no. If it was a family member or friend 100% yes, I think it is a wonderful idea. If you are going to get together with all your family for dinner anyway why not have it be a wedding too! I am sure it will be beautiful!!

My parents were married on Christmas Day. But since the family is Jewish there was nothing significant about that (especially in 1934) as Christmas was more of a religious rather than secular holiday at that time.

Movie theaters are open. Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, hotels, resorts, all kinds of places are open.

How many people are saying they would never attend a Christmas Day wedding, but they would go to Disney World?

I don't get invited to weddings very often (2 in the last 10 years) so I would say yes. If it means enough to the bride and groom to invite you, I think it should mean enough to you to go, unless it is just an obvious gift grab, you know it's the best friend's sister that met your third cousin 5 years ago and wants you to share in the fun.

No way. And as a PP said, it would be kind of pushing it to try and find a babysitter on Christmas day. Also, who would want to leave their kids with a babysitter on Christmas day? You spend so much time and money getting ready for Christmas and then you go out and leave your kids with a sitter

My kids are grown now, but I do have grandchildren and I would be really upset if one of my DD's told me she and her husband were going to a wedding on Christmas instead of being with family.
Just MHO.

Karen :)

Ok, that is selfish. Yeah, you'd like your family around, but christmas is just another day! If they chose to go to a wedding, then so be it.
