A Character Meal for my DBf!

My boyfriend is visiting Orlando with me for the first time in 2009. He has never been to the USA before, and he has never been to Disney anywhere, ever. That said, we are not purchasing Disney park tickets - not least because they are extortionately priced, but also because I think we will enjoy the attractions at Universal/IOA and Sea World more (we only have 10 days) as we are in our early 20s with no children.

I would, however, like to take him for a character meal. We are happy to do any meal (breakfast (10am or later), lunch or dinner), but as we do not have park tickets, it will need to be at a resort hotel. Buffets are fine.

So, what would you recommend as the 'Disney experience' for someone who has never been before? He is a 'manly man' and hasn't seen many 'recent' Disney movies (he hasn't seen Lilo & Stitch, for example, so Ohana would be wasted on him). I was thinking Chef Mickey's for dinner but wondered if anyone had any better suggestions!

and actually visit the Magic Kingdom and ride some attractions, etc. If you do that, then I would choose Crystal Palace for the character meal.

If you stay out of the theme parks altogether, then I think you are on to something with Chef Mickey's. It is probably your best choice. And the Contemporary Resort is a nice place to visit.

Another option would be to visit Ohana for dinner. They do not have a character meal at that time, but the view of the castle is very romantic and they do have entertainment.

The only other character meals that I can think of would be at Cape May Cafe or at 1900 Park Fare.

Your bf might enjoy the seafood at Cape May Cafe, or he might like the entertainment with Cinderella and the wicked step sisters at 1900 Park Fare.

We will visit Disneyland Paris sometime, but we won't be visiting the parks this trip.

Boyfriend doesn't like seafood (he claims...) so I'm probably going to go with your suggestion and stick with Chef Mickey's.

Hi, me and my DBF went to Cape May for breakfast in June (and he sounds the same as ur bf!!!) it was great for breakfast. Fab buffet, much quieter and low key than some of the others we saw. We went for a 10.30 sitting so it was quiet and the food was really fresh! Would def recommend it for breakfast!

We went for a 10.30 sitting so it was quiet and the food was really fresh! Would def recommend it for breakfast!

Thanks for your positive review, was it awkward arriving so late? On allearsnet it says that the buffet finishes at 11am.

If you want the "Disney experience", you should go to Chef Mickey's. All the classic characters, the monorail going through the hotel. I would suggest breakfast, I think the food is better.

No not at all, there was no rush, I think it was 10.45 we were booked for actually! The food was still being served fresh at that time, and there was no rush for us to leave at all! We didn't need lunch afterwards and had time 4 a walk around the Boardwalk which we loved! I found it a bit lower key than Chef Mickeys which did look fun but I know what you mean when its just the 2 of u! When we were there, there was Minnie, Goofy and Chip'n'Dale, but I think Donald now makes an appearence instead!!! Are you staying in Disney?

Thank you for that review. We are not staying in Disney as we are not visiting the Disney theme parks. We will be staying up near Universal but can get the bus down to Disney.

Whilst I think Chef Mickey's would be good, we are a childless couple and do not enjoy dining in high-energy environments. I understand that is the entire *point* of Chef Mickey's, and I'm just thinking that perhaps that wouldn't be the place for us? We'd rather go somewhere a bit more low-key...

Yeah I completely understand what you are saying! I love Disney but agree, sometimes if its just the 2 of u (and we are both early 20's) you don't want to be the only one without children in the place!!! In Cape May there were a couple of people with older kids or a couples our age, especially later on as I think most people had eaten earlier in the day. Whilst deep down I would love Chef Mickey's, I think it might be a bit much for DBF!!!
