A change in the Fastpass system?

One of the guys at my DH's work said that Disney is changing the Fastpass system this summer. It would be free to guests who are staying on-property, BUT those who are coming into the park that are not Disney guests will have to pay a fee to use the Fastpass sytem. Has anyone heard this?

I have heard this rumor a bunch of times. But never any actual proof. Sorry, I can't confirm it for you, and my guess is that it isn't true.

I'd be extremely surprised if Disney ever changed this for FastPass. Same thing with the dining reservations. They want you at the parks. They are continuing Magical Express which could easily be a fee charged service but it's still going to be free. These rumors have been out there for so long but nothing has ever come of them. And if it was going to happen by the summer, someone here would have already heard about it.

I had not heard that they were going to go ahead with this. Though, it wouldn't be a big surprise if they did--Universal already set the precedent for it. I think it is poor for customer relations though--but I doubt they care what I think!

Sounds good! ME is free - taking you to Disney resorts. It would be another perk to staying onsite if you got Fastpass with your admission whereas you had to pay if you were staying offsite :wave2:

Actually, I like the idea of the fast pass for on-site guests only perk. If you're an AP holder or seasonal (resident, whatever the Floridians get), you could get the same perk b/c you are shelling out more for passes! However, if they don't want to go to that extreme (as people might decide to NOT go to Disney b/c of the change), they could offer two fast passes per hour for on-site guests and only one per hour for off-site guests!

The EMH is a nice perk and fast passes would be an added incentive that might pull people into the resorts.

Disney DOES have numerous U.S. patents for tweaking the FastPass system in various ways. They've had them for years, but there's never been any announcement from Disney about implementing any of these variations. On-site versus off-site, deluxe vs. moderate vs. value, etc. There are many patented variations; the patent is on the software responsible for powering the system.

It would seem to me that a master marketing GIANT like Disney would be ADVERTISING this perk if it were to start soon -- they'd be adveritising it to boost their occupancy rate in their resorts, know what I mean. This leads me to believe that a new system being implemented in just a few months is a rumor and nothing more.

I agree with WINTER, i would love it if Disney did this. Yes i know i am getting some hateful glances right now but it would encourage may people to stay in park and it would be a great perk!!! If we had a vote i would be yes!!! :thumbsup2

The purpose of ME is so people do not rent a car ( Can't get cheapers Eats and Drinks if ya ain't got a car ).

This rumor recirculates through these boards every few weeks, and have ever since Disney registered those patents. However, what seems most likely is that Disney won't make anyone pay for anything they've gotten for free in the past, but might provide some resort guests some specific accommodations with regard to FastPasses, such as being able to reserve them in advance, perhaps for specific times. However, there have been no indications of any changes being considered yet.

No hateful glance from me! I think it is a great idea. I love that Universal does this.

I, also, would LOVE FAST PASS to be reserved to on-site guests!!! SORRY!!

Flame me if you will, but I'd love it to happen, too. :thumbsup2

Ok, count me among those that wish that it was reserved as an onsite guest perk. Sorry. Maggie

I don't think they should cut off fast passes for offsite guests, but it would be nice if onsite guests got extra fast passes or were able to make reservations for them early.

I'll take the flame :furious: also. Those of us that stay on site pay some good, hard earned cash and should receive a nice perk like free Fast Passes. The extra hours perk is cool, but the Fast Passes would be better :thumbsup2 . You pay the big money to stay Disney, you should get on the rides before the non-Disney resort staying guests. Unless they want to pay to get on with you.

P.S. The FP's should also go to the AP holders.

I don't think they should change the current system for any guest...but rather improve it for resort guests. And, seriously, how many resort guests fail to use it as it is already??

For resort guests, allow them a smaller window to get the next one, maybe dole out a couple freebies depending on the level of resort you stay at, etc. (2 freebies for value, 4 for mod, 6 for deluxe, unlimited for DVC. OK, self serving on that last one. :teeth: ) Best of both worlds that way, nobody has anything taken away from them, but those who do drop the extra coin on a Disney resort get a little extra perk.

We all PAY good, hard earned cash for staying at Disney whether onsite OR off! I can stay at a value, but I instead stay in a villa offsite which costs much more that staying at the value. It's a choice and we all get to make it.
I don't think it's fair that only Disney guests get fastpasses, yes it would be good for getting more rooms booked, but it sends the wrong message.
The EMH didn't take away anything from people that don't stay onsite, it gave an added benefit to those that do. I agree that if you get an extra fastpass or two for staying onsite that wouldn't be too outrageous.

We always stay on property and this would be a great perk. However, I don't feel like it is something that Disney should do. Our good friends only get to Disney World every 2 or 3 years. And even then, they are only able to do it by exchanging their timeshare for an Orlando one. I just don't think that those people that cannot afford to stay on property should be penalized in such a way. K!eep fastpasses free for all guests!
