While reading the www.givesmehope.com site I came across this project
http://operationbeautiful.com/

It challenges women and girls to leave a post it note on a mirror or somewhere another woman will find it. Someone you dont know, just tell someone they are beautiful or they are strong or they matter.
Its easy and quick and you will never know if you made a difference in someones life but I know that it would make a difference to me.

Can you do it?

I love this idea. Someone posted the same thing on facebook and I think it's really important for women to do this.

We all are so accustomed to putting ourselves down or letting the ourselves get the best of us and sometimes we just need a reminder that things are good and that we matter.

I think it might be nice to do this if we could on the DIS? Anonymous PMs? A thread of sincere compliments about others, etc?

What a neat idea! I'm going to put some notes up around town!

I work in a retirement community. I will go put one up now!

I will do this for my DDs first, I have a tween and I love this idea as a way to reinforce that she is loved and beautiful, and then I am going to suggest that she do this for her friends!

I love this and will be putting up sticky notes all day :)

(and one on my mirror at home too :) )

:lovestruc

Yay!!!! My DD has been involved with this for quite a while, it's been a great thing for her to do, leave notes around. She's very serious about it.

The musical group "Fireflight" believes in this so strongly they lent one of their songs to "Operation Beautiful". The video is GREAT, makes me cry to see all the notes along with that song (which is one of my all-time favorites). Here's the YouTube link:

agnes!
PS - End "fat talk" :thumbsup2 !

That video is really great! Thanks so much for sharing!
I am a co-leader of a 7th grade Girl Scout troop and we will definately be watching the video and making this a project for one of our meetings! princess:

i always write "your life is beautiful" on the walls of bathrooms. i've never heard of this project though, i think its a great idea!

i do something like that too!
i always write positive messages on bathroom walls! :goodvibes
(sans stickies though, so i suppose a lot of it probably gets washed off)
i've never heard of this project either, but it's great that it's got people doing this! :thumbsup2

Binny, this is a wonderful idea, but I have to admit, my first reaction is that this could really make people uncomfortable or make them feel a little creeped out. I mean, we know the intent is pure, but I might be a little uncomfortable to find something like this and not have any idea who posted it or what their intentions were. Just saying. I guess that's part of what is wrong with the world -- some (including me) might always assume the worst of everything.

Wow, I think that's a great idea. What a simple way to brighten someone's day. :goodvibes

My office has 5 women in it, any notes left wouldn't be very anonymous. LOL But it is a neat idea and one I need to use at home for my girls. :)

That's why you put "operationbeautiful.com" at the bottom of the Post-It note, downgrades the possible creepiness factor :).

Honestly? Finding a note from someone who doesn't know me (as was instructed in the OP) would make a difference to how I feel. I only saw the note because I randomly happened upon it before someone else. If it was written directly on the walls (as per some PP), I'd just think it was graffiti.

Finding a note from someone who knows me (or at least in a non-random fashion), would brighten my day, and seems (to me) to be a much better idea.
