A car just rolled into my house!

This exact same thing happened in the neighborhood I grew up in, a couple houses down from us. Not all the way through, just banged into the exterior wall. They got a new bay window right there, but I doubt you son wants a bay window, lol! I'm so glad no one was hurt!

Oh my, I'm glad no one was hurt.

A neighbor of ours had that happen a couple years ago. Except the guy was driving fast. He knocked the house off the foundation a couple of feet. The people there were ok, just a few scrapes and bruises from stuff falling on them.
The kid was knocked out just long enough for him to wake up to a policeman shining a flashlight in his eyes.

Wow! What an understanding neighbor you are! Glad no one was injured.

When I was a teenager a car crashed through a friends house right into his bed. For some reason he had decided to sleep in his brother's bed that night. (The brother was at a friend's.)

Gosh what a shock, but then you had a very different ending to what was expected too:D

Glad all are safe & well, just a little shell shocked.

After looking at the damage in the daylight, it is a whole lot worse than we previously thought. The wall that Mike's car ran into is a load bearing wall and we really won't know the extent of the damage until the sheetrock is torn off.

James' room is on a front corner of the house. The brick damage extends on around to the front. The whole corner will have to be replaced and his windows in the front are currently under stress. In the other direction, the brick damage carries on down to the bathroom behind James' room. Sheetrock will have to be repaired in there too.

Mike is still afraid of what we might do and finds it hard to believe that we are not upset. Joe talked to him last night and told him that his neck hurt. :p Mike did not find that funny.

Oh, well........

Kirby,

Make sure you have a certified Structural Engineer look at the damage. We just had to pay $8,000 (out of our pocket) to repair structural damage to our home.

I'm glad no one was hurt. A similar thing happened to me when I was 16. I was babysitting at a neighbor's house. She called and told me that she was sending her friend's daughter over to pick up some cigarettes. The daughter would be driving my neighbor's car and when I heard the garage door go up, I should go out and give her the cigarettes. My neighbor wanted to make sure that the girl got the cigarettes and went straight home. She didn't want her friend's daughter to be out running around in her car.

When I heard the garage door go up, I went into the kitchen. All of sudden, I heard a roar and the next thing I knew I was lying on the floor on the other side of the kitchen. The girl hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Lucky for me, the stairwell to the basement was in the garage. It was in front of the interior wall. The car hit the wall and the back wheels lodged in the stairwell. If they hadn't, it would probably have run over me. I didn't get hurt badly, but it sure scared me. My neighbor wasn't all that upset. She got a new kitchen out of it. I didn't even get paid extra!

I'm just now seeing this. How scary. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

I hope everything gets repaired with no problems between neighbors.

pirateofthecarolinas, our neighbor on the other side of us is an insurance adjuster. He looked at it and his guess is at least $6000. We definately want to have a structural engineer out. We don't want something else to go wrong later on because of this.

Kirby,

The reason I feel concern about this is when you try to sell this house. A certified structural engineer can steer you in the right direction of a company whose work guarantee will transfer with the ownership of the house. Ours only cost around $300.00 and his report was worth every penny. He told us there were only 2 companies in our state that he would recommend. One's guarantee would transfer and the other company's was only good for time we owned the house.

Good luck and I'm glad no one was hurt.

Lori

Thanks! I've expressed that same concern to my husband. We plan on living here another 10 years till our kids get through high school and college. But you never know.
