Well, tomorrow we're taking our popup out of the garage for the first time since winter set in and going to Camping World to get an Air Conditioner installed. Yippee!!!! :cool1:

We used to live in Northern California and never needed it there, but my dh (who always runs hot) said he wasn't camping at WDW in May/June without one and those pictures of tents with air conditioners that you all posted here a few months ago convinced me to go along with it.

I was feeling pretty pampered cooking "indoors" and having running water! This is going to be true decadence!!!!! I can't wait!

Thanks, all of you, for your inspiration!

...where, yes, "winter" is not really a big deal...

I can stay in anything as long as it has air conditioning, I'm also hot natured and air will make your trip so much better !

Texas? TEXAS? You live in Texas and don't have a/c in the pop-up? :scared1:

Don't walk, RUN to camping world. We always leave a day or two in the FW vacation (excuse me, I mean the WDW vacation  ) to lounge around the Fort all day and enjoying the activities. Going back to the a/c camper after lunch for a little nap is oh so nice. It is well worth the investment. :thumbsup2

Not only Texas, but near Houston! In our own defense, we just got here last summer and have only camped in October and March since we moved.

And not only did we not have A/C, I didn't even know you could get it in a popup! In Northern California, we never needed it and I never saw anybody else who had it. The dealer never mentioned it was available, and to find out that it was was a big surprise to me! We always just unzipped the windows and let the evening breeze blow thru, which is obviously not a reasonable solution here. (Yes, humidity is a big change for us!)

OK, mission accomplished! My garage is looking pretty empty, and the pup is at Camping World scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. It wasn't even as expensive as I expected (but we haven't gotten the final bill yet!).

I really want to follow in your footsteps with our FW vacation. ;) By the time we get there, I want to stay awhile and enjoy it, so we're going for 11 days in the campground and then 2 nights at the Dolphin before getting back on the road.

We haven't been to Florida since 2000 and want to take the teen daughter to Discovery Cove and the space nut to Cape Canaveral, but other than that, it's just WDW and FW campground time for us. Maybe someday we'll make it over to that other theme park in Orlando. We just haven't found the time for that yet!

...hoping FW vacations will become a regular thing for us, now that we're within driving distance...

I am curious:confused3 ..and if you don't mind..about how much is it to have an a/c installed in a pop up. I ask because my son is interested in purchasing a used pop up from someone he knows. However he is also BIG on having A/C. He wasn't going to consider the deal until I told him how I read here that someone was having an a/c installed in theirs. If you don't mind my being so nosey...about how much is it to have that done. Or..if anyone else knows, I'd be curious, and grateful for any info you have. Thanks.

Go to campingworld.com and you'll find A/C prices starting at about $440 with a $90 installation fee.

Sue, what part of northen CA are you from?

Hi auntie --

kc5grw gave a great answer on how much it cost, and ours was right in that range. It all depends on what type of popup it is, whether it already has a vent hole or not, and whether it has a support beam in the area that the a/c is to be installed. Camping World gave my dh a quote over the phone for our make/model/year popup, so we knew the numbers before we even hauled it down there. Your son could get a specific quote before he even commits to buying the popup he's considering.

We chose Camping World because their bid was significantly cheaper than our local dealer and if we have any trouble with it, there are Camping World's all over the place. I felt kind of silly dropping off such a tiny trailer in their sea of Class A's, but hopefully they'll do a good job with it. It's always a little scary for me going to Camping World...our local one has an RV showroom on the other side of the building, and I'm coveting one of those bunkhouse trailers. They sure are sweet!

Specifically, Rocklin, which is in the Sierra foothills just northeast of Sacramento going up 80 towards Tahoe. We also lived in San Jose and in Nevada County just south of Grass Valley off SR 49, but the last 15 years were in Rocklin.

I miss it like crazy! What I'd give to camp at Sugar Pine Point and Yosemite NP again. I miss driving up to Tahoe for ski days and escapes to San Francisco. And I want to go to Disneyland!!! :confused3

I see you're in Texas, too. Are you another transplant? (My dh's job moved to India, and we didn't want to go with it. I guess Texas is a little cooler than that!)

Sue, originally a farm kid from Ohio, college in Michigan, lately of California, no desire to move to India, now in Texas

A transplant from long, long ago. My dad was stationed at Beale AFB for about 6 years when I was a kid. We camped all the time, I loved the Sierras and still really miss that area.

Oh, we saw the planes from there flying overhead all the time. It's a shame they closed so many AFB's, but Beale's still there!

A transplant from long, long ago, eh? So I may never get over this. :confused3

It's no wonder why I drown my sorrows by dreaming about camping at FW!

Wait, there are air conditioners in TENTS or are we referring to pop up tents?

Yes, they're TENTS!!!!!! Regular, good, old, pitch 'em on the ground, no wheels, tents! :rotfl2:

I can't find the original thread I saw, but here are some links from a more recent thread:

From tim5055, which he admits getting from a previous post...
heres a couple of links for a/c unit in tents:

My Dad retired from the AF in 1972. He moved us to Texas and I've been here ever since. I really do miss the access we had to the mountains. It's many hours drive to anything that can remotely be considered a mountain from the Dallas area.
