Hello everyone,

I don't know if this belongs on the planning board, I am sure if it doesn't, one of the kind moderators will move it.

However, we returned from our stay in the 2 bedroom lock off at BCV from 8/30 to 9/6. We are Boardwalk lovers and nothing about this stay changed that. BCV is nice, but there is not enough going on for us in the evening, so we prefer Boardwalk. That said, we had a great stay, it is a great resort, and I have a few musings in no particular order:

Arrival: A greeter met us at the car, made some small talk with us, had us follow him and before we knew it, I was at the front desk. I never had that happen before and I liked it. Everyone we met was so nice, the staff was terrific.

Online check-in: I don't get it. We did it, and I still had to wait at the front desk (at 10am) while the clerk fumbled through screen after screen on the computer. She got my packet out, then had to go back and change something in it. My brother's family hadn't arrived yet, so they kept his key. When they did arrive (I was there, but so was a Magical Express bus load of people) and no one apparently understood that they just had to hand him the key. They waited forever while they pulled other people out of line. I finally got the manager and said "All we need to do is get the key out of your mail box and hand it to them - they are checked in." That seemed to rectify the problem.

Housekeeping: The room was clean, but I have never seen such a stingy housekeeping service. There was 1 packet of dishwasher detergent (at BWV there are several). I had to call to get more, and they sent 2 packets. I called again and they gave me 2 every time I called. There was no laundry detergent and after being told I wasn't supposed to have it, I had to explain to the lady on the phone that upon check in, it is supposed to be in my room, they finally sent me a box. There was 1 roll of paper towels, no additional trash bags, no body lotion. What's up with that? I never had that experience at BWV. I was calling all of the time to get those things that were supposed to be in the room upon check in.

Closets and storage: Where are they? The closet off the master bath is smaller than BWV, and there is no hall closet. We were storing luggage around the room. There is very little drawer space but it is comparable to BWV.

Kitchen: Appliances slightly better than BW, but not much. The dishwasher display did not light up so we have no idea what cycle we were washing the dishes on. The countertops are granite though and they look very nice.

Washer and dryer: Seemed to dry slightly better then the horrible old ones at BWV. I understand BWV is being renovated, and hopefully these are being replaced.

Stormalong Bay: A really gorgeous pool. Everyone must stay here at least once to experience it. Unfortunately, it's so huge, you can't keep track of your kids so I wouldn't stay here with children I have to watch constantly. It is also quite a long walk from the villas. AT BW the pool is smaller, and out a back staircase from the villas. It's not as lavish as SAB, but you can keep track of your kids and hey -- the slide has a clown face.

Beaches and Cream: Seriously, what's the fuss? There are only 4 flavors at the takeout window. There are more choices at the BW.

Parking:it's very convenient to the villas. It's very close

Location requests: I requested a unit with full balconies, on a high floor, overlooking the pool. Not one of those requests was met. But our room was ready by about 12 noon and I was notified via text message. I am sure I could've made a fuss but I would rather have the room ready. We were on 3rd floor overlooking the woods. No view whatsoever but it was quiet.

Resort Size: Everyone talks about how big the BW is but we seriously felt we were walking forever to get anywhere at BCV. Maybe it's because we know our way around BW and don't know our way around BC. But it's a very long walk to the lobby, to SAB, to the restaurants, to anywhere but the parking lot and Epcot.

In the end, we loved BCV, we would stay there again. But unfortunately, we also felt like we were staying at someone else's house, and we kept longingly looking at the BWV across the lake. I am sure we will try to stay here again, but it won't for a while. :cheer2:

If there is any question I can answer, please let me know.

Thanks for your thoughts on BCV. We too are BWV owners and we love it there.
We will try out BCV one day but I think I will wait until the kids are older to experience SAB. Thanks for that tip.

Thanks for posting. We feel the same way as you do, BWV is our favorite resort. The great thing about the DVC is that there is something for everyone.

Housekeeping: The room was clean, but I have never seen such a stingy housekeeping service. There was 1 packet of dishwasher detergent (at BWV there are several). I had to call to get more, and they sent 2 packets. I called again and they gave me 2 every time I called. I was calling all of the time to get those things that were supposed to be in the room upon check in.

We only use studios so I can't comment on dishwasher or laundry detergent but I always thought you had to supply your own for both.:confused3 None of the studios we've ever stayed in has ever had more than 1 roll of paper towels provided. I always thought 1 was plenty for a week. Body lotion? Do you get body lotion in all of the larger units? Humm. We've never had anything other than shampoo, conditioner & shower gel in the studios. I would think that some of these items would be standard across the board?! The only time we ever got body lotion was on DCL. Wonder why the studios don't get any anywhere??

Closets and storage: Where are they? The closet off the master bath is smaller than BWV, and there is no hall closet. We were storing luggage around the room. There is very little drawer space but it is comparable to BWV.

We thought the storage in our BCV studio was comparable to that of the studio at SSR. And we had a nice closet near the bathroom... We liked having the coffee table. I think I've heard there are no coffee tables in the BWV studios?!

Our DS is 12 and swims quite well so the size of SAB didn't bother us - it was a bonus for us and is his fav. so far! If he didn't swim well or if he was much younger we'd stay in the water with him regardless of where we were. The pool size wouldn't matter. We wouldn't leave him.

I requested an upper floor facing the quiet pool at BCV & got 1 of 2 (2nd fl. facing the pool from the left). I think getting room requests is all subject to availability and if you want to wait on a room or not. I don't think it matters which resort - it's all in the luck of the draw.

Once we found the secret path to Epcot we were good. We didn't find getting around say to the main pool to be any worse than getting to the main pool anywhere else. Seems like there's even a hike at VWL.
In the end, we loved BCV, we would stay there again. But unfortunately, we also felt like we were staying at someone else's house, and we kept longingly looking at the BWV across the lake. I am sure we will try to stay here again, but it won't for a while. :cheer2:
We enjoyed BCV very much. We felt at home there. I don't know that I'd call it MY favorite over SSR or VWL but it was nice. DH and DS both loved it tho and DH even commented that he could see wanting to stay there again.

We've stayed at BCV shortly after it opened. We found getting to our room was like walking in a maze. You could tell we were the first to stay in the room, so ware and tare on it wasn't a problem. I guess I'm just to much in love with our BWV to change. It's by far our favorate!

We love both resorts. B&C walk up is nothing special. The sit down burgers and sundaes is the only way to go-excellent.

All things considered it sounds like you had a good stay. We own at BCV and would not have it any other way. It's home. Any time I stay elsewhere I too get that longing to be "home". I do however agree with you about SAB. It's great for our 11 and 14 year olds, but if you have younger kids (we also have a DD5) It can get pretty stressful trying to keep an eye on them.

I hear this a lot about SAB and we have a 6, 3, and 2 year old.....LOVED SAB. Maybe because we are use to going to large waterparks watching the kids:confused3. I was nervous for our stay there with what people say about stressful watching kids but.......we had zero issues.

I do agree with how far the villas are from the rest of the resort does feel like a a maze getting around. Personally for me it is a coin flip between the two resorts. SAB and the beach gives a slight, very slight edge to BWV for our family. We liked the walk over the BW to enjoy the night time activities. I do like the standard room prices of BW, I do try to score those if possible.

But unfortunately, we also felt like we were staying at someone else's house, and we kept longingly looking at the BWV across the lake.
Interesting -- we don't own at BWV but we watched it being built over multiple stays at the Dolphin or Yacht Club ... and it was our very first DVC stay in Sept 1998. It is the DVC property we use the most frequently (annual stays for 7-12 nights) and it certainly feels like home to us. I hadn't realized how much it felt like home until a certain off-property visit to Orlando with family a few years back. I think we were heading to dinner at Cape May's from Epcot ... and I was surprised by strong feelings of nostalgia or longing for BWV. (Not sure if the longing was truly for BWV or the event that brings us there ... but it caught me by surprise either way.)

Have to almost completely agree with everything you said. We own at BW as well and have stayed at BCV several times. I have liked my stays at BC well enough. But, I never really liked the convoluted walk to the lobby or pool area. It was nice having a quiet pool right there, beside the DVC bldg though. And I did like the walk through that pool area over to the bus stops...loved watching the turtles.
And Beaches and Cream??? I don't get it either. I've always had hugely long waits there. I just don't bother anymore.
I do like the bright open feeling to BC though. I like the color palette..it's so cheery. I always wanted to stop in one of those reading areas..just curl up with a good book for a few hours.
I did like the Marketplace a lot. I wish BW would put something like that in as well. It was so easy to get your own coffee or soda there vs having to bring your mug, show it to the CM, they give you a paper cup and you pour it into your mug at the Bakery..huge pain in the neck.

And we did find the studio there to be a bit smaller than the studios at BW...my dd was the first to mention it when we walked into the room.
But, it's a nice resort and I would stay there again, in a heartbeat, if I couldn't get BW.

Besides SAB, BCV has dedicated 2 bedrooms with 2 Q's and that's a definite plus for our extended family. Being able to secure one at 11 months is the main reason we added on BCV points.

I've eaten at Beaches and Cream a few times and I don't "get" it's specialness. However, I love the salads and clam chowder from BC Marketplace.

I really love both resorts, BWV and BCV. I wish BWV had dedicated 2 bedrooms, I think our DGC would really love the clown slide! The BCV villa pictures remind me so much of our Cape May home,, and the BWV I suppose, reminds me of our nights spent walking the Boardwalk in Wildwood.

I'm glad you had a good time at BCV and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for sharing, and agree with many of your comments.

I do have one question for clarification, you stated:

I was not aware that the BCV had anything but full balconies. I realize some balconies are larger than others, but are there rooms without a balcony? :confused3

I know the Beach Club resort has rooms without balconies but was not aware of this at the villas.

I am a BWV owner, who like the OP, stayed at BCV for the first time this summer. Let me preface my comments by saying that although I am a BWV owner, I don't necessarily have any allegiance to it (other than the $15K it cost, of course). It was the DVC being sold in 2000, and we liked it well enough, so we bought in. If things ever change and BWV is the only place we can stay, we'd be OK with that, but otherwise we are DVC journeymen, staying wherever strikes our fancy (and availability) for that particular trip.

That said, our recent trip shook up our favorite DVCs, moving BCV and AKV up to being our favorites (it was a split stay). I had stayed at AKL before, and I just loved the whole feel of the resort, so I knew I'd like AKV. However, I was surprised I liked BCV as much as I did. I always knew SAB would be great, being the best pool on property, but I ended up deciding that BCV as a whole is the most complete DVC resort IMHO. While other DVC resorts have one or two major features/benefits (e.g., proximity to a particular park, activities, convenience, views, etc.), I think BCV has the best combination of everything. The combination of reasons I think BCV is the best DVC (for me at least):

1) SAB, no brainier

2) Proximity to two parks

3) Best of both worlds - a small, private, quiet location, but with quick and easy access to a multitude of other resort amenities, nightlife, and dining at the Y&BC, Boardwalk, and EPCOT.

4) Best of both worlds #2 - convenient parking for do-it-yourselves (especially for a hotel based resort), but with hotel-style concierge, valet and bell services available.

5) Although subtle, a light, airy, and relaxing theme.

The weak spots are obviously views and point costs, but the quiet pool views look nice enough, and the points are at least equivalent to most other resorts (AKV Sav, BVW pref, VWL, BLT std.)

Some specific comments, I too thought the B&C selection of ice cream was ridiculously small (c'mon, EVERYONE has cookies & cream), but I loved the feel for the place, and the sundaes were good and the kitchen sink was awesome! As for the pool and what ages are appropriate, I thought SAB was the BEST pool for the 3-7 yr old group. Sure the whole complex is big, but the shallow pool with zero entry, sand bottom, and sand bar was far superior and more fun for my 3 and 6 yr old than any of the hard bottom, limited area zero entry pools of splash areas at other resorts. You have to watch kids that age anyway, so why not watch them at a pool where they won't WANT to wander from. Not to mention, the shallow sand bottom pool was perfect for just sitting in while watching the kids.

So after this recent trip, this is our order of DVC preference, with the number of stays we've had and high or low points of resort):

BCV - 1 stay - Said it all above

AKV - 1 stay - Pro: Great, immersive theme, animals, Boma. Con: A bit dark and isolated (but that can be a pro as well as a con).

BWV - 4 stays - Pro: Park proximity, near to a lot of activities and dining, std view point costs. Con: Theming is overpowered by size, can feel impersonal, like run of the mill hotel.

VWL - 2 stays - Pro: Impressive lobby, great theme in main lodge, boat to MK. Cons: Pool is nice looking, but bland. Villas are nice, but bland. No views.

OKW - 1 stay - Pro: Point cost, room size. nice community feel. Con: Big and spread out, often far from resort center, and not much going on at resort center.

SSR - 1 stay - Pro: Parking, proximity to DTD (although I could care less), nice rooms. Cons: Busses, distance to resort center, undersized pool, big and impersonal condo feeling. (note: I reserve judgment of THV, which I'm sure I'll love).

We have also stayed at HHI (4) and VB (3), and love both those resorts, but comparing them to the Disney properties is like apples and oranges. We are staying at BLT next April, so I will be forming an opinion on that, but I suspect it will end up in the middle of my list, with the room sizes, layout, and costs keeping it from being higher.

Thanks for posting this thread! I had posted a thread earlier today with questions regarding pros and cons of BWV vs BCV. We've stayed at BWV 3x now and fell even more in love with BWV when we got a boardwalk view.

I'd love to try the BCV on our trip next Nov/Dec 2010 but BWV still feels like "home" even tho we don't own there, just have rented points. Maybe a split stay would be a good idea - getting the best of both worlds! But not sure if a 7 or 8 night stay is long enough :confused3

Hi JandD Mom,
Thank you for posting your trip report as it was very detailed and easy to read. Glad to hear you had a nice time.

I am a Wilderness owner and I have yet to stay at another DVC resort I did not like though Wilderness Lodge is always home. As another poster mentioned that is the benefit to Disney there really is something for everyone. Thanks again. :thumbsup2

BCV has become our family's favorite resort but I completely agree with this statement! Our past trip in July no lotion was given, ammenities weren't replaced on full cleaning day, etc. I ended up calling mousekeeping every time to get the things they should have left to begin with. I have not experienced this in past trips to BCV. Not sure why they seem to be focusing on this!

Another random observation at BCV is that in our 2 stays in 2009 the hot water temp. seemed really low. I had a hard time getting the shower warm enough for me. We had split stays with Vero and Carribean Beach and both places had significantly warmer hot water. What is going on with that?

Still Love BCV though! Thanks to the Op for sharing!

First, I want to thank everyone for the positive comments - even by those who don't agree with me. It's a rare pleasure these days not to get flamed for expressing an opinion.

I hope everyone realizes I would have no hesitation to stay at BCV again. We just missed the BW.

As to the question above, the BCV does have balconies of varying sizes. Some balconies span the whole unit, some are quite small. Some are average size. I think it was built that way for the overall aesthetics from the outside. If you look at the BC hotel, they have some very small balconies that will basically hold only 1 person. We walked around marveling "why even waste the cost of building materials to put those in." I can only assume the answer is because of curb appeal.

Our balcony was very small. It fit 2 chairs and a table and that's it. There was a separate, unconnected balcony off of the studio (we had a 2 br lock off) of the same size. I think some dedicated 2 BRs have balconies that span the whole unit.

That said, I saw balconies that were bigger than ours on individual units. We spent little time out there because there wasn't much point. It was not possible to put 4 people on 1 balcony, and thus maybe share a cocktail with my brother and SIL or just chat after the kids were put to bed. We never had a balcony that small at BWV. This balcony was even smaller than any balcony I've ever had on a cruise ship. Small.

That is not to say that all BWV balconies are huge. In our last stay there, we had a 1 BR dedicated unit, standard view, down near the walkway to the parking lot. The balcony spanned the whole unit, but was very narrow. So if you were sitting on a chair, someone could not walk behind you.

I consider myself very fortunate to have such wonderful choices of places to stay!

You know, one other thing we noticed was related to the water temperatures, it did feel hot enough, but it took absolutely FOREVER for the water to warm up. I mean I literally would turn on the shower as hot as it would go, and start doing other things before I could get in. It took several minutes to heat up for the first shower.

BWV is not known for having great plumbing (it has been repaired numerous times) but I don't remember it ever taking so long for the hot water to start coming out of the shower.

One of our contracts is at BCV, and we love staying there. I will admit to being very enamored with BWV, too, when we stayed there for the first time this summer. The two resorts offer two different experiences, and we enjoyed both. I don't think I'd ever give up my BCV contract, but I got a serious case of addonitis while we were at the Boardwalk.

We were at BCV the same time as you - 8/30-9/4!
This was our first time at the resort, and we did enjoy it a lot. I agree the place felt a bit like a maze, I found myself often disoriented as to what direction Epcot was from our room! :rolleyes1
Also agree w/ you about B&C - it was fun to eat there once, but I would not wait a long time to eat there again.
I do think BCV is due for a bit of a refurb - especially the sofas. Our sofa was in really bad shape (like college dorm room bad) - we had it pulled out the whole time for DD to sleep on, mattress was fine but sofa itself was ick.
I didn't have any problems w/ the amount of storage, balcony size, or dishwasher issues. Also used online check-in and everything went smoothly.
