A bunch of refurb news

Beginning on Monday, September 9, 2024, “World of Color – ONE” will be closed at Disney California Adventure Park. The nighttime spectacular will remain closed until October 22, 2024. This refurbishment is likely to make preparations for “World of Color – Season of Light,” which is slated to return in fall 2024

Thanks. None of the people I follow on social media have reported it. Very disappointing taking down nighttime entertainment during Halloween (now the busiest time of the year).

Going for my first trip, while I'm excited to try a lot of the food and some rides, it sucks that they announced this last minute. I wish they were like TDR. TDR is a locals park that publishes any sort of refurb (big or small) with months of a notice. Gonna feel like half of DL is closed when I go.

Okay this is another point of contention. Put it on the calendar! They can’t even keep the list correct.

Thanks for the info. I wish we would have heard it from Disney instead of reading message boards or follow Scott on Twitter. That update is news to me!

Yeah, Disneyland has to do maintenance but it's reasonable that people are disappointed and should be able to share that here without the unhelpful snarky comments. That is a lot of attractions down at one time and has to be frustrating.

We're going in a couple weeks, luckily, but could have just as easily went slightly later and been right in the middle of all that.

That Facebook WOC post was just this morning. And it’s still not on the regular United States English refurb list. It’s going down to switch it over to a holiday show. Not to fix anything with it. This has never happened before so there was no way to plan for it.

Wow great, my first time going and I’ll miss it by 1 day 🤡

Eh? Switching over to a holiday show would take a lot of planning. They must have known this was going to happen months ago, although maybe they just recently set the exact dates.

Any news when the Railroad and Monorail will be back?
Railroad will be down for 3 months. Disneyland is replacing 25% of the track - starting at Toontown...it is part of 4 year project to lay brand new track systemwide. Railroad should open up when Holiday Time starts on Nov. 15.
The Monorail being down is because of construction in DD..once that construction finishes -- the monorail will reopen. I expect Monorail to be down 2-4 months.

At least with the monorail, it would be down a lot anyway Aug-Nov even if it was open. It doesn't run during the day when it's over about 82°. Sept and Oct are some of the hottest months in SoCal.

Like others, I just keep hoping that all this is in prep for an amazing 70th where basically nothing is down other than regular times (like the normal changing over to the holiday attractions).

We took our 7yo grandson for his first trip in late June. It seemed like so many things were down. Of course he was amazed at everything... but his cousins (we took each of them when they turned 7 as well) had told him how exciting/scary Splash was, and we had to let him know that Splash was closed. We let him know ahead of time, but it's still disappointing when the "Big Cousins" have been talking something up and then you can't do it. One of his favorite characters is Pooh, and that ride was closed. Of course, we talked about how things change, and some things are closed for fixing, and pointed out how he was the first one to get to go on Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, which he agreed was pretty darn cool. Really, the disappointment was completely Hubs and my issue, because we knew what he was missing even when he didn't know.

I've always wondered why this is the case - the monorail at WDW doesn't shut down due to heat - is it just the age of the monorail and older technology?

Older technology....WDW monorails have air conditioning....
Correct. DLR made the interesting decision the last time they replaced the monorails to not get A/C. I am not defending that decision, but the monorail is more of an attraction at DLR, whereas at WDW it is necessary transport to/from parks.

At DLR, if the monorail goes down, it is annoying and frustrating, but it mostly impacts guests staying at DLH.

When I used to stay at DLH as a kid in the 90's, they used to offer tram service to/from the DL park entrance if the monorail was closed. The only option now is to walk, unfortunately.

Even if the monorail is closed for heat, it will still open in the morning and evenings. Just midday is impacted from about 11:00 - 5:00 or so, depending on actual temps.

Some of the plans for where Avatar might go include a re-routing of the monorail beam through the Hollywood area of DCA. If this happens, some major downtime will be on the horizon in the next 5 years.

*If* they took down the monorail for a while to do a re-routing for whatever expansion goes in that area of DCA, there'd be no better time to also rethink Tomorrowland and maybe take down some of old Peoplemover tracks while they're at it. I know, I know - I'm dreaming big over here.

Pretty sad about all of this, I'm visiting in October (around Columbus Day so high crowds), and I live really far from Disneyland and at the moment I seem to go there about once every 6 years (2012, 2018, and then this year)!

So for me it's no small world, no railroad, no world of color (the last time I saw this was in 2012, as it also wasn't running when I was there in 2018), no monorail (especially annoying as I have a couple of nights at the DLH), no splash/tiana, no winnie the pooh. Hopefully jungle cruise will be back up by then.

I think of this list I'm most sad about world of color because it's been so long since I've been able to see it, and a friend went to DL earlier this year and was raving about how good world of color is...

We can dream! I agree, it would be wonderful if they do it all at the same time. Let's hope there's not two separate major downtimes!

I remember when they were re-routing the monorail for Indy construction in the 90's they ran two monorails one-way on the other side of the beam (the old parking lot section now the DCA section). One would wait just past the other station (so near the Matterhorn in DL and near Downtown Disney by DLH). I don't know if they they'd do that nowadays for budget and/or safety reasons.
