A bit bummed by Disney prices

In 2005 and 2006 I took 2 of my children and myself to Disney for a long weekend. I wanted to take my girls for a princess weekend Th-M, 3 day base tickets, and I fell off my chair when I plugged in the information with ASMo and it came back at $1041.81. I spent that the last times WITH flights. :( Is it just me that notices the increases? I know it's getting more expensive to run the parks, etc., but people aren't making the money they used to.

Try going when it's more of a value season. Don't know about Feb, but April is usually pretty pricey.

Are you comparing apples to apples? Does this year include dining? Did the last trip? What about insurance? You are talking 5-6 years ago. I think the main difference is that the prices have gone up, but so have the discounts. You're also comparing a value season (Nov-Dec) to non-value (Feb/Apr).

The dates you are looking at are considered Peak season by Disney. Meaning their resorts and the parks will be full and busy. If you change your dates, you can save a substantial amount on your room.

As far as people not making what they used to, I agree with you. My full time job has been cut to 36 hours a week. And that 4 hours less a week in pay is noticable! But I don't think Disney owes it to any of us to be able to afford the trip. And that is kind of the vibe I am getting from that part of your post.

Change your dates, or even look at staying off-site. That is about all I can see that could save you some money.

Oh no, the dates in my signature is for our family trip, where I expect to pay more. I'm looking in late November/early December for just myself and my girls. And yes, comparing apples to apples, except without the MVMCP. Sorry for the confusion.

Did you go through the special offers links? Go to the bottom of the disneyworld website to the offers links, and go through it that way. Might find a cheaper way.

Also, they did just raise the ticket prices, with child tickets having a bit more of an increase, relatively, than the adult tickets.

Since it sounds like you are planning on taking more than one trip in a year have you looked if getting an AP would help save some money.

Good point. You do need to spend enough days in the parks in a year to benefit from it, but you could look at the the option of a TIW card coupled with either an AP discount or a good room discount.

Looking at alternative dates can also make a difference. Someone has already mentioned this but I thought I would add that yesterday I did some quotes for next year and when I shifted my dates by three days my prices fell by almost $1000 for the exact same vacation on different dates.

Have you tried pricing it out a la carte? If you're not concerned with the dining plan (which you can't get via most travel websites), Expedia is quoting ASMo at an "average" of $76.50 before taxes/fees per night from 12/2 through 12/6 (some of the nights are less, some are more).

If I were going for more days, doing the AP makes sense, but I'd be paying more for the AP than the tickets. But thanks for mentioning it!

Actually an amendment to my post above, looks like they're running promo rates on many of the resort hotels. Give it a look, they might have something tempting for you. Keep in mind they have a different policy for booking than Disney (must be paid in full at time of booking) -- make sure to read all the particulars if you decide to book anything with a travel site. I do know that Expedia allows you to cancel with a full refund up to 5 days from check-in.

I just priced out the dates of December 2 - 6 on the Disney site, under the special offers/free dining tab, at All-Star Music for 1 adult, 2 kids, 3 day base tickets and it came out to $1,028.00 and that included the quick service dining plan. I think that's a pretty good deal for everything, including your meals.

My dh wanted me to keep it under 1000.00 (like I had before w/flight) but that's just not going to be possible. So now I'm off to look into flights.

Thanks again!!!!!

Yes, but when you went in 2005 for under $1,000.00 did that include all of your food for your length of stay? The food prices can really add up.

Are your dates flexible? I presume you are doing Th-M for school reasons, but if you do M-F the price comes out at 1005$... weekend prices are 10$ more... not a huge difference, but if it's a budget trip every penny counts.

Good Luck

We're actually paying less per person this year than we paid in 2005. We are going during christmas pricing and we are taking an extra person. With food (FD) we are paying $3,000 for 2 rooms at POP (6 nights), 5 5 Day PH Tickets and dining for 5 adults.

With the 25% off of value hotels that just came out it should be cheaper. Did you use any of the discounts?
And did the last time you go include food as well? Doe sthis time include food?

Does it have to be Asmovies? They only have prefered rooms left. If you are willing to stay at another value, you can get the room dicount of 25% off at a value for $295 total. Add in tickets for $631 and you have less than $1000. Does the under $1000 have to include food? or just the initial cost?

Actually I think WDW prices are pretty good compared to some. We did a 3day weekend at Great Wolf Lodge, which we drove to, and spent $1000. If you compare it to other destinations I thing you will find that it is quite reasonable.
It may be with the state of the economy that you are just more aware of prices this time around.

If I could do M-F, I would, but then I'd need to pay for child care for my other 3 children since dh wouldn't be able to take the time off. He's not including food, just initial cost. Anyhow, I digress. I personally don't mind the prices, but when trying to convince dh to let us go, the cost makes it harder. I think the price is totally worth it when I look at my children's faces.
