my mother bought into DVC in Sept, after one of the worst Disney vacations this family had. My mother is blind and www does not accommodate her, even after repeated request to put the phone, safe and evacuation instructions in Braille or on tape with a tape recorder, they always say they will do it, and then don't. And we won't even get into the fact that housekeeping throws dirty laundry on the floors in the halls, or room service trays are left on the floor in the halls.

Anyway, when she bought into DVC she to,d them she would do so if, (CM John) would tell Disney to put the contract in email format. She signed up 9/8/2015, she honestly did not think they would ever do this for her.

Well yesterday there was still one piece of the contract that needed siGoing, and mom told John she did not have that piece the most important piece in email format or any of the contract, and before she signed the last piece she wanted it in email format so that her iPad could read the documents for her for years to come and so she had a way to know what she was signing. Again my mom never thought that they would do it, since Disney has never done anything to help accommodate her yet.

Well a great BIG thank you to Jonathan, he came thru last night he emailed over the whole DVC contract, now mom can go on line and year it next year, or five years from now, or when ever she wants, like everyone else can. She now does not have to wait until me or my sister gets home from college to finish the paperwork, she can read it and sign it herself.

This is a huge step to Disney finally seeing blind people who are intelligent and capable of doing things for the self. Now if she goes in June and DVC can get her the instructions to evacuate, the phone and safe instructions on tape or Braille, my mom may never leave Disney again.

I hope it works out and that your mom can enjoy WDW. Hugs to her as she goes forward into this new experience.

Oh yes, Welcome Home!

Isn't their a group at Disney that deals with accommodations for the blind?

John wanted to complete a sale so he was accommodating, I hope that your Mom enjoys her ownership as time goes on.

If there is a group my mom has never found it, and she is quite resourceful. I know john wanted to complete a sale, but I don't think you understand just what he did, he could not just send everything over to her in email, he would have been fired. He had to go thru Disney lawyers, they had to prepare and approve of what was being sent. We who can see take it for granted, we read the contract, or like most of us probably just sign the contract which is a good 30 or more pages, and later when we are bored or when we need to find something out about DVC we begin to read the contract. Mom needed it in email format because she wanted to be able to like us read it when she had a problem, iPad reads it for my mom. This was not just john saying let me get this sale, this was john, going up the ladder, making calls, emailing back and forth until he was able to get a legal department to find the right, DVC contract, and approve the right format of that contract, and then getting it back down the ladder, until it was emailed to her.

This took John way more time and effort, than the simple easy accommodations my mom asks for at Disney resorts, yet in 15 years she has never received those accommodations. Come on either put the instructions to the evacuation, safe and telephone in Braille or on a tape recorder, how hard could that really be, yet they have never done it.

housekeeping throws dirty laundry on the floors in the halls, or room service trays are left on the floor in the halls.

We are staying at different resorts; where have you seen dirty laundry on the hall floors? I haven't yet stayed at a WDW resort with room service, but FWIW at typical hotels, even the really nice ones, you need to call to get room service back or to inform housekeeping of a tray. When people just put them outside, without calling anyone, that's when you end up with that situation. (same on cruises)

This was not just john saying let me get this sale, this was john, going up the ladder, making calls, emailing back and forth until he was able to get a legal department to find the right, DVC contract, and approve the right format of that contract, and then getting it back down the ladder, until it was emailed to her.

Oh, I'm sure John said that...but I bet someone else had done that long LONG ago. Unless you think your mom is the only blind person to buy DVC?

You should post on the Disabilities page about how to get services for your mom.

We were at BC in sept, and not once but three different times during our stay of 6 days before we were moved, we had housekeeping getting all bedding from a room and throwing it on a floor outside a room, this was only to the path to our room, we saw more down other halls but it didn't effect mom so we didn't mention it. We mentioned it to management the first time, the next two times we took pictures and went down and told management, evidentially it was a daily routine and they were not going to change it.

I'm sure you would think it was just a easy thing, but yes I do believe mom was the first to ask for it, maybe not the first blind person to buy DVC but most likely the first to ask. If it was a normal thing and ready for blind persons and could be distributed than it would have taking a day. It took a few months.

No disrespect to the disability board, they do great for some disabilities, but they have many who have strong attitudes about certain disabilities and seem to be very proactive on certain disabilities, which probably stems from there world wide immersemeant 1 in 45 children now have autism, 1 in 80 persons now use some type of device to walk, stand or move. Less than 1% of U.S. Population is blind, and many who do great advacating for disabled have little or no experience advacating for the blind. If less than 1% of U.S. Is blind, and less than 3% of blind are independent (living alone, living with a full time job) than yes I do believe my mom is probably one of the only blind who bought into DVC, blind without a partner who can read.

Also, just so you know blind persons are the only group of disabled, who are not allowed to file a class action lawsuit against Disney, autism can, w/c persons can, deaf can, but Disney has made a rule thru a lawsuit that blind persons can not file class action lawsuits against them. Disney has definable made a statement with that they do not wish to deal with or accommodate blind individuals.
