So, we just passed ROFR on our first contract :woohoo: , but I can't stop myself from looking at the DVC resale listing and seeing some better deals out there that I could get now.

I guess I have a bit of "price remorse." Have any of you felt like you should have held out for a better deal? Did it take you very long to get over it?

Thanks,

I wouldnt worry about it, if you look hard enough and wait long enough there is bound to always be a better deal

but what does it really amount to? a few extra banked points here or a couple bucks there

plus there is never a guarentee that those "better deals" would pass ROFR

so just sit back and enjoy knowing you are in, no stress over ROFR and all that other stuff

you work is done

I did that for a little while, and then I decided that even had I saved $2 per point on 390 points, it would have only saved us $780. In the big scheme of things, that amount of money would have either gotten us 9 more points on our contracts or paid almost half of our MFs for one year. Even though I don't like to give away money and would have loved to have saved $780, it wasn't worth the worry.

Overall, our contracts were great, which made up for the money. Our 120 pt contract had 05 banked points, 06 points and all 07 points coming. The 270 had 217 06 points and all 270 coming in 07. My biggest regret that I obsess over...UY. :headache: Due to the banked points that came with the contracts, we're almost always traveling on banked points that will expire at the of our UY. Because we have an Aug UY, we must complete our travel by 7/31. With DH being a teacher, I'd love to book in early August, but we can't do that with the banked points. If we end up taking a cruise, we'll use up all of those points and then it won't really matter. Until then...we are tied to the 7/31 date and I REFUSE to lose points!!! :goodvibes

No, I just wish I'd held out for a bit bigger contract..now I may need to add-on :)

It could be worse you could have paid full price purchasing from Disney (like I did). I don't regret it, but at least I am more knowledgable (thanks to this site) about other options out there like resales. But consider the big picture over the course of 50 years, the difference is minimal. Congrats on ROFR!

Congratulations, and WELCOME HOME.:cool1:
You need to look at the used/banked/borrowed points, who pays what at closing... to make sure you are comparing 'apples to apples'. Not just the $$$/point. In the long run a few $ a points isn't much, just look at the savings over paying Disney for a room.

There are so many things in life where we could second guess ourselves. If you are happy with your purchase, and it seemed reasonable to you at the time, that is what matters. Life is too short to fill up with "what ifs."

I had looked at DVC a little bit before buying and honestly decided to go take the tour (and buy) on the spur of a moment during a trip last year. I did quick research on the internet and after looking at the pros and cons, I just felt it was easier to go direct. I think before it was all over and done we got a decent deal and didn't lose a ton of money, but also didn't have a hassle of resale, brokers, closing, etc. A couple hours at SSR and we walked out with points and temp membership cards. We even used our DVC discount to eat the next day at Fultons....:thumbsup2

OP, here.

Thanks, everybody. :goodvibes I think I really needed to hear this from people with more DVC experience than me.

In retrospect, I don't regret the $ we paid per point, but we could have gotten a better deal if I'd bought a contract with more points already on it. As we use the contract, I'm sure I'll be able to make better decisions re: points. FWIW, I think we still got a good contract at a good price, I just hate to leave money on the table, too.

When we bought, we planned that we would add on in a a few years, potentially at AKL, but we'll decide that when the time comes. I'm excited about all the future trips we're going to have to take, now that we have to use our DVC! :rotfl2:

OK, I just bought a 15 inch dell XPS laptop 5 days ago. It arrived yesterday and just for kicks, I looked on the Dell site for the same build today. Guess what, it's $200 less than a week ago.

Such is life. Enjoy what you have! At least you didn't buy Starwood for full price for $40,000 and have it now be worth $10,000 on resale!

There is no such thing as a "better deal"...every deal is seperate and unique even when dealing with DVC. You may think you could get a better deal, but any number of things could ( and according to "Murphy" probably will) happen to make that "better deal" a far worse deal.

A few bucks here and there become petty cash when dealing with a 35+ year contract like DVC.

In all seriousness though, everyone reading this board is getting educated, which is key when spending so much money. I was just telling my husband how it must have been such a different world before the internet. Back in the 90s, you only had your sales rep's word to go on (and the fine print that few of us read word for word). Now we can get the real deal. As a matter of fact, I feel more comfortable getting answers from my questions on line than through the sales office!
